Lyrics:
One more
Well I heard Steve Earle had a lot of wives
About as many as cats have lives
Met him on a tractor
And we're good friends
He writes a song for everyone
They fall in love and before it's done
He writes an even better one
When it ends
Well I don't have to take your name
And you won't have to take the plane
Steve Earle, Steve Earle
Please write a song for me
I promise I won't take a dime
When it comes my time to leave
The others wanted your whole heart
I just wanted your sleeve
Steve Earle, Steve Earle
Please write a song for me
Well I heard he loves each one the same
As much as island loves the rain
Steve, it rains at my house everyday
He met them all at every port
Falling in love is a pilgrim sport
As long as I can be the pirate
I'm ok
You moved to the city baby you had to go
I love apples
And I can learn to love the snow
Steve Earle, Steve Earle
Please write a song for me
I promise I won't take a dime
When it comes my time to leave
The others wanted your whole heart
I just wanted your sleeve
Steve Earle, Steve Earle
Please write a song for me
Come on!
I can walk around in your favorite shoes
Just one line what do you got to lose
And I don't bruise
Steve Earle, Steve Earle
Please write a song for me
I promise I won't take a dime
When it comes my time to leave
The others wanted your whole heart
I just wanted your sleeve
Steve Earle, Steve Earle
Please write a song for me
Steve Earle Steve Earle
Please write a song for me
Oooo, thanks for the lyrics!!
Great song by Jennifer and Steve Earle must be loving this
I love Steve Earle!!!!!
Although I understand some of the irritated comments by Steve's fans, I would like to state that without this song I would never ever have heard about him and his great work. Since here in Germany, where I come from, hardly anybody knows his name. But I listened to this, got curious, bought one of his records and after a few weeks owned all of them. So: Thank you, Sugarland and long live Steve Earle!
One of the best songs ever! Love it!
😅😅😅Yahoo!
I love Steve Earle and this makes me smile. I'm sure Steve Earle gets a smile too and has thicker skin that some here give him credit for. Lighten up folks.
She rocks! Love her energy and personality on stage. Just a naturally fun person
Rocks. Just plain fun, cute song, well performed, she can sing, and it entertains the hell out of me. What more do you want from a country song? Love it.
I bet Steve Earle loves this song!
Right, he probably changed his stance on the death penalty after hearing this shit... XD!
Actually they interviewed about the song, and Steve Earle was complementary.
Classic, and I love Steve Earle!
It looks like Jennifer Nettles is in love with the world’s greatest songwriter
Right you are buddy. This is just plain fun, and let's all treat it like that. Hell, this gall's having a ball, who could probably complain to that, eh?! Just a funny song with a catchy tune, lighten up y'all, wont you?!
dig that stand up fretless! skills!!!
Just saw him last night. I think he would get a kick out of it.
Call it country or rock or what ever.. Sugarland is happy as a band and people like happy
You mean people like crappy...
Sure he does - and I just think country is one of those sounds. Don't let today's pop country define what is country, and he fits just fine.
she is good country rocker at it's best
its great i like it
ya that was hilarious and one hell of a tribute dam that was clever
I have fun singing too!! but Sugarland is an UHMAZING band & I love them okay!! & yes have talent is some of what makes you an artist the other half is HAVING FUN WHILE SINGING!! & I said being a COUNTRY ARTIST!! not all artists in general!! & besides artist will tell you if you dnt have fun doin' it then your in it for the wrong reasons!!
haha excellent
i can't believe that is her real voice.
never heard this before, and it sure brought out the trolls, how do you guys find so many videos to rant and rave about when you apparently don't even like music. i could listen to this woman recite the alphabet, her music can make you cry or jump up and down, what i love most about their music is the sense of enjoyment portrayed, they all just look like they are having fun, especially her, so for all of you that didn't like it and think its silly, heres a clue, don't listen, im sure no one will miss you.
In this case it is not trolls. It is people who love music, and Steve Earle in particular, who has more talent in his pinky these two as a pair. I find this mildly amusing, but real music is about more than having fun.
Just as funny as Lydia Loveless's song about Steve. And I feel pretty sure he's got a great sense of humor. You know you're a Legend when they start writing songs about you. The Replacements wrote a wonderful song called "Alex Chilton" and I'm so glad he got to hear it before he died. Check it out.
I have fun singing, but it doesn't make me an artist. Having talent, skill and creativity is what makes an artist. Your argument really undermines any respect for the band, whatever you think about their talent.
I would love the link, as I am pretty obsessive about reading interviews with Earle, and every time I have seen him asked about it, he said that he didn't bother to listen to it. Sorry, but I don't believe you.
okay ALL OF Y'ALL!! talkin' bad about Suagrland ARE OUTTA Y'ALL'S MINDS!! This song is suppose to be a "novelty song" itz not suppose to be very serious, itz suppose to be funny!! & besides it doesn't matter what they sing as long as they have fun doin' it!! That's called being an actually country artist!!
I would have to believe that 99.9% of the people at at sugarland show would have no clue as to who Steve Earle is anyway. I'm glad I do. Thanks for putting out good music for the last 30 plus years Steve so I didnt have to listen to shit like this.
Top comment....
Based on your comment, you don't know much about Steve Earle youself
idc what it’s about she sings it perfect and they play it well
they make about as much chezzey music as they have good
kwitchermichn it was just for fun. i'd given her the call.
@JHAM3232 it's not country, it's kinda cute only because i am a huge Steve Earle fan, but i am not sure what kind of music you call this. real country music is pretty much gone though.
It's called shit for brains music...
Well, if this wouldn't make Guy Clark, Emmy Lou, and Townes proud, I don't know what would!
Sure you can, especially his early albums... but this is not.
call Steve Americana, Roots Rock, Bluegrass, Folk...but, you can't call him country.
