Gegen den Strom - Against The Current

[English below] Seit Mitte November 2023 sind in der Ausstellung "Gegen den Strom. Die Omaha, Francis La Flesche und seine Sammlung" zeitgenössische Objekte der Umoⁿhoⁿ als Leihgaben präsentiert, ausgewählt vom kuratorischen Team des Nebraska Indian Community College. Leitgebend bei der Auswahl war die Frage “Was bedeutet es heute Umoⁿhoⁿ zu sein?”
Auch wenn sich die Materialien und die Formverändert haben ist eine starke Kontinuität von der historischen La Flesche Sammlung zu den neuen Stücken zu erkennen. Vor allem sind die Objekte Zeugnisse der gelebten Umoⁿhoⁿ Kultur und unterstreichen die zentrale Aussage der Umoⁿhoⁿ: “We are still here”.

[EN] In mid-November 2023, the exhibition 'Against the Current. The Omaha, Francis La Flesche and His Collection' was updated to include contemporary Umoⁿhoⁿ cultural belongings. The selection was made by the curatorial team from Nebraska Indian Community College. The selection process was guided by the question 'What does it mean to be Umoⁿhoⁿ today?'
Even though the materials and the types of objects have changed there is a strong continuity between the historical La Flesche collection and the new cultural belongings. These belongings represent the lived Umoⁿhoⁿculture and highlight the central message of the Umoⁿhoⁿcurators: 'We are still here'.
