  • John from TX reviews his SNAPP® screen DIY (Do It Yourself) porch screen screening project. John and his friends screened several large openings in a fishing retreat in Port O'Connor.
They added a knee wall, 2 wood frame doors, and screened the entire porch using our extruded aluminum SNAPP® screen extrusion and our polyester Pool & Patio screen fabric.
John walks you through everything from product selection, cutting the extrusion, installation, and his final thoughts about his experience.
Excellent project review and a perfect SNAPP® screen installation.

How long has it been in and are you still pleased with it? South Texas sun and heat can be a bear on pretty much anything outside. Let me add my appreciation for a conversational but very complete install video. Thank you.

Trying to figure out how to put in screens on a screen porch- this was a great video! Direct, to the point and enough detail to feel confident about trying it. Also appreciate the recommendation of the snap screen product. Thank you guys!!

I like your work style. Lots of thinking here. But does the flat spline also work with Snapp? And don't tape your screen to hold it, use a 12 inch pice of spline inserted about 6 inches. Do this in the corners and when you begin to install the spline, the screen stays where you need it. Pull out the pieces when you arrive at a corner and you have a nice straight, tight screen.

You do need to use SNAPP Screen spline for proper installation, no other spline will work. Check out Snapp Screen Installation Video 3 and see the best way to install screen and spline. (Video 3 wasn't available when John screened his project)

    Nice friendly instruction vid. 👍
    Curiousity question for you...
In your opinion, since you used heavy weight screen and you seen to have a fair amount of wind there.
Do you think this snap screen stuff would hold a clear 4mm poly sheeting tight and secure as it does the heavy screen material?
(the clear plastic sheeting you get in 100' rolls)

The thickest PVC film you'd want to use with SNAPP Screen is .008" (that's roughly 2mm). Anything thicker is very hard to roll in - especially in cold temperatures. You would use standard SNAPP Screen spline when installing the film or other fabrics.

why not just use aluminum it last forever, that wood will rot eventually

Looks better with the house construction style. Aluminum is awesome, but it does assert a certain appearance.

In all honesty, forget starting your spline from using that roller wheel! Seriously! It is so much easier instead of rolling it in is 'If you will just tap it in lightly at first w/a rubber mallet to then roll it in afterwards tightly w/a roller wheel' it be a much better deal. I'd had so much trouble W/that wheel going off track, it wasn't even funny. L.O.L Sure enough the video's make it look so easy, & if so you do it the way I just informed you of how to do it 'will then become easy. You will get a tighter screen fit, less wrinkle, go faster & easier
