This might be a viable upgrade from a 2013 MBP that I've been waiting for for so long. 16 inch, ports, no touchbar and Magsafe.
Same, I've got the Dual Graphic 2013 15" i7, I just wish you could properly dual boot it instead of having to run windows through Parralels.

This is the first Apple machine I've bought since 2010. Loved my old machine, but when it was time to upgrade the lack of ports and the touchbar stopped me from making the purchase. Been on PC since 2016. Looking forward to getting back to Mac
I actually like the Touch Bar and think this is a downgrade. It let me take screenshots and came in literally sooo useful while using ms office, auto fill on documents and stuff. I can’t even accept this now.

I also still have my 2010 MacBook Pro. It’s time to buy a new one but the notch on this new MacBook might be a deal breaker 😩

They made a huge notch because for the next-gen MacBook they will shrink it so in the keynote they put "The notch is 10% smaller", and so on for the next 4 years.

I literally gave my 2015 to a friend last year so I could get the m1. then when they announced it, It was so not what I wanted. finally glad these are out so I can switch it lol.
in 2016 I bought the 2015 model because it actually had all the ports I needed and the touch bar just made me... annoyed. I know what I'm replacing my MBP with in 2022!

Why would you wait for a notch to come to laptops? XPS line and Huawei's Matebook to name a few both have displays with minimal bezels and no notch.

@@angelsv He bought Mac Pros and XDR displays for everyone in his studio ... MKBHD isn't a start-up tech CZcamsr. Money isn't an issue. He's most likely already got it (before everyone, even) and is just testing it to make sure that it works as advertised.

A friend sent me a shot of it earlier today, I literally LOLed (like for real) and was SURE it had to be a Photoshop. Nope. It's already funny seeing the fanbois try to spin it as good when it's absolutely ABSURD.
It’s because now that the screen estate is bit bigger and they wanted to make the laptop smaller and lighter ……..there was no other option for the camera to put other than a notch

After almost 10 years of using my 2012 15" MacBook Pro Retina Display.....it was finally time to upgrade. And I am so happy I waited for the right time! As a photographer, I definitely use those ports. I am so excited for my mail delivery coming soon...definitely watched to justify my purchase and feel good about it xD
Notch is for branding. When you see a person out in the wild using the new MacBook you will know it is the PRO model because of the notch.

All the cool M1 chip stuff aside. Bringing back the ports on a Pro-level MacBook, is the best thing they have done in years, and now makes this an actual worthwhile competitor for professionals. However I won't forget that someone actually made the decision to take them away in the first place.
Well remove the ports first and add them in pro version, for higher price. Consumers are very tolerant.

They removed ports for water-proof purposes and thought that we were heading in a direction where hdmi wouldnt matter and display ports wouldve just used usb-c. Obviously that didnt happen so they brought back the ports

Quick correction: Windows Hello on surface is not just a webcam, it incorporates IR
But do they use the IR for authentication purposes? (note: that's a real question -- I have no idea if they do or don't...) I think Marques was talking about the webcam wrt FaceID and TouchID, and that it'd be nice if the new laptops *did* support FaceID -- but they don't.

I’m super happy with my 2021 13” M1 MBP. So quick and editing LR with 61mp files and FCP in 4K is great. Personally don’t see any reason I’ll ever edit anything larger than 4k. Apple stepping up for sure but 2x more expensive for the 14” is not worth it to me. But I see many workflows finally opening up to laptop use for sure

The notch is an identifying feature. You can recognize from looking at the screen that you're an Apple user and therefore a member of the prestigious club and also probably financially doing well and therefore probably suitable for mating.

I waited years for this upgrade. My current MBP is 8 years old. Just bought a 16” Max that will hopefully last for another 8 years.
That is exactly what I have done. Late 2013 spec (maxed out at the time) has given me an uninterrupted 8 years of use. Ordered a maxed out (apart from SSD size) 16 inch a few days ago - should get 8 years or so out of this.
I think its time for my 2015 MacBook Pro 13inch to finally rest in peace. These new macs are essentially an improved version of that generation.

7:50 windows hello actually does require an additional IR camera for facial recognition. On modern laptops the ir camera is usually very well hidden as it doesn't have to let through visible light, so it might look like just a regular webcam.

Sorry, but I have to add that it’s still not at the same level as Face ID, which, in addition to the IR camera and IR flash, has an IR “dot projector” which enables it to scan the 3D topography of your face and use the resulting 3D depth map to verify it’s you. A depth map simply provides much more data to the system and is thus more secure than a simple IR image from an IR camera. The main advantage of using IR for Windows Hello is actually that it works in the dark.
I still can’t believe they praised themselves on the “new” design of the MacBook Pros by _reintroducing_ function buttons and ports after _removing them_ for years themselves… 😂

6:15 - you know why. They were using Intel's architecture and designs. They opted for higher performance versus extraneous ports. With the advent of their own silicon, they could do whatever they wanted in the VLSI.

It seems that Apple goes the somewhat "retro-futuristic" route. The square edges on the iphone, the colorfull Macs, a MacBook with a lot of Ports and the new AirPods with an ad that looks very similar to the old iPod commercials

I wish I had a trillion dollar company so I could spend it on a notched laptop design with a 0/10 repair score.. Apple is bring the worst design ideas and mixing them with good fixes to make us feel good about community feedback...

@@brezza6892 sadly there is no reason to give a fuck about repairability if you are a pro, they have the best insurance for their products in the entire market world so it is much cheaper to buy insurance, almost makes repairing obsolete. Sad for the environment but good for Pros.

I’m glad that they stopped aiming for the “thinnest” possible build. That’s why they were able to bring back the additional ports. Also, I’m notch bothered by the notch at all.
There are a lot of programs that I use that have a search bar that would be obscured by the notch.
Do you really have HDMI devices? The world switched to USB-C already..
I don’t really think anyone is bothered by the notch at all, more so that it exists at all in the first place. The iPhone notch isn’t ideal but there’s a bunch of tech up there. These new macs have literally just the webcam and a daylight sensor and the notch is massive
@@tomxaak for displays we definitely have not switched. A large amount of high end displays use hdmi 2.1. And even if you happened to have all usb c monitors, I’m sure you’d still run into situations where you’d be out of your house and want to use a hdmi display
@@tomxaak yup, I connect my laptop to an hdmi interactive screen just about everyday. It’s nice to not worry about adapters/dongles.
