From Brooklyn Nine-Nine, the NBC series revolving around Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg), a New York City Police Department (NYPD) detective in Brooklyn's fictional 99th Precinct, who often comes into conflict with his commanding officer, the serious and stern Captain Raymond Holt (Andre Braugher). The series also stars Terry Crews as Sargeant Terry Jeffords, Melissa Fumero as Amy Santiago, Stephanie Beatriz as Rosa Diaz, Chelsea Peretti as Gina Linetti and Joe Lo Truglio as Charles Boyle.

She served as a foil to the selfless cast, without her it would have just been a show about nice good cops. Gina showed that nice doesn't work in the real world and saves them multiple times.
I don't understand how people just hate a character because they're not nice or because they're selfish. Gina by far was the kindest person on that show, she says what needed to be said, and she always placed everyone ahead of herself when it mattered.

Always bugged me how much hate Gina got. Easily the funniest character on the show, moreso because she's not your typical 'good guy'
I think if they had toned down the blatant sexual harassment she would have been more popular.
@@matthewblough5088 I don't think it was just the sexual harassment. It's the fact that she didn't grow or evolve as time went on. Other shows had awful characters like Tom from Parks and Rec or Dwight from The Office but they changed over time. Gina just stays the same awful person with very little redeeming qualities about her
the other characters had more personality and selfless so they stood out more. all Gina cared about was herself

Easily one of my favorites of the show. Gina was a true state of mind, and was refreshingly unrelenting in pursuing what she wanted. Glad they didn't succumb to overhauling her character like so many shows are prone to do with characters who have bite to them. She grew just enough without watering down her brand.

Holt is incorrect about the blondie/cookie issue. Blondies are not the same as chocolate chip cookies. Blondies technically should not even have chocolate as they are intended for more of a vanilla flavor, and in the case of blondies v cookies, blondies will also have a chewier, denser structure due to the brownie-like recipe. It is more than just a shape difference.
Would you expect from someone who would have a diet consisting of pills if it was possible and whose favorite food is beans to know the difference, c'mon

Gina is different from a lot of basic characters. She is quirky, funny, sarcastic, nice, and joking. Sure she has flaws, but she is quite nice as well.
Think about it, people don’t hate on Charles much, but he’s always inappropriate and creepy. He is funny though.
They all have flaws, and good things about them. It’s a show, get over it.

I am confused by the Gina hate... Wtf do people want all characters to grow. Sometimes having just a constant weirdo character is perfectly fine. Plus it's not like the show condones her behavior. One half of the time she does something inappropriate and gets called out on it... The other half of the time she is a lot of bark and no bite.
She let's the Boyle family come for the mother dough, just bc Charles is sad.
Amy wants to bond by facing fears, she agrees. Amy wants her to learn how to change a tire, she does.

Amy's wedding is in jeopardy. Oh look at that suprise wedding dress I have "because I wanted to wear it at the wedding"... It was a perfect fit for Amy.

I'm grateful they dropped the harassement against Terry joke, that was just... Tasteless, but lowkey all of them are inappropriate at work... Except for maybe Terry.
Again, I don't want to see nice characters that experience growth all the time. I even had enough of them in this show. Gina is the kind of character that is done and is there nothing more to explore with her in this show (her catching up with school and becoming more career-oriented, rather than just going with the flow, is actually part of her growth). Not everyone needs to be "become more generous".
You don't need to like her, but everyone that claims that she isn't interesting, or an appealing character is talking subjectively. I also don't like the "story writing" excuse. If you'd do something with all your characters, you would never get through with it. She is a sidekick kind of main cast that is there for mostly comedic purposes

I don’t know why people wanted her to have “growth” some characters don’t need full 180s. She had her own story and was fine with the way she was. Straight forward, took no bullshit, and yeah kinda mean. I don’t know why people are so hard on mean female characters. She’s actually hilarious people need to stop 😂. Charles is weird. Amy is lame. Sculls and Hitchcock are gross. Jake is stupid sometimes. 🤷🏽♀️. She just says it to them instead of amongst each other like the other characters
I used to love Gina so much, until both my parents got cancer and her quote for refusing to dance with Scully 'not even if it cure cancer' ruined her character for me 😢
For cancers' cure, I would lick Scully and Hitchcock feet without a heartbeat.
I know it was just a jab, still hurts nonetheless.
It's a shame they ruined her with parenthood despite establishing she was against it, she should've stayed insanely interesting but twas' ruined.
