I am taking the 40 hike challenge, hiking all 40 trails in the “Great Day Hikes on North Carolina’s Mountains to Sea Trail” book from Friends of the Mountains to Sea Trail!
I am hiking the trails in no particular order. My goal WAS to complete them all in 2021, releasing a new episode every week. Somewhere along the way, I decided that experiencing the trails and surrounding areas was more important than finishing all 40 as soon as possible. When I started the challenge, all 40 hikes had to be completed between March 23, 2020 and March 31, 2023. Good news! Friends of the MST have removed the deadline for the challenge, so if you want to try it yourself, you've got time! :)

I don’t think I saw anyone on the walk back, but was afraid of bumping into an elk on the trail! 😅 I did have a little liquid bravery with my dinner so that helped haha 😆 🍺

Nice adventure Bill! Love all the Elk and fall colors. I’m missing that right now in the middle of winter. I’ve never been to the Great Smoky Mountains. I’m hoping to go there this year. There are a couple hikes there I really want to do.
I hope you can make it! Thanks for dropping in for the premiere. Definitely some gorgeous hikes in the area. I didn’t have as much time as I would have liked - I hiked at Waterrock Knob just before this stop, then went to Clingman’s Dome for another one of the “Great Day Hikes” in the book. It was fun to spend a little time on the Appalachian Trail, too.
Hey Bill, great vidio. Wish I lived closer, started a new job so no Mt.Mitchle this summer. Was thinking maybe vacation somewhere else in North Carolina. Don't know...the Mountains are a calling...lol. Happy trails

Hmm there’s Pilot Mountain, Stone Mountain, and Hanging Rock State parks, all very nice with campgrounds.
This was a nice surprise to see today, I thought you had gave up on us. Just finished watching & it was amazing as always Bill! Definitely Worth The Wait but I’d love to see more of your hiking adventures. They motivate me to get back out there. Anyway sorry I missed the premiere but I didn’t know about it. Hope you are doing well!
Thanks! Sorry about the long hiatus - 2023 was a really tough year for us and I was too depressed to get much out there. I’m doing much better now.
Next video will be Clingman’s Dome or Hatteras - not sure which. 😅
