    Thanks Joe! I've been planning for my flock for over a year. Trying to fine tune everything and getting myself all caught up in the brambles over it. I came across your video this morning and it was like a breath of fresh air! You made it so very clear and calm and simple. That's what I've been praying for and my prayers were answered right here on your channel! Peace and blessings to you and yours from just one more new sub!!

    Outstanding! We have chickens too. We live in LA. Lucky we don't have to worry about freezing weather like you do. Great to have those fresh eggs. I watched a million youtube videos and looked at as many websites and designed in all the best features when I built the coop and run. You have a great looking set up! I have a garden so I use the woodchips in the coup in my compost pile. Great video Joe!

    Winter is coming up and how you keep your chickens in the winter is always a topic I watch. There is not enough of us cold winter Minnesotans that post ideas and WHAT KEEPS THEM ALIVE AND HEALTHY in the cold -30f days. Here in Minneapolis we have to have 1.5" insulation in the coops. Yet venting is Imperative. Not sure how my first Chicken winter is going to work out. I did get a radiant heater.

    I got 6 chickens - my home insurance went up $40 for them! Insurance guy told me if they ever got out (they are penned in because I have woods here) they could do damage to a neighbor's. We live 1.5 acres apart. I have a $1000 deductible so anything remotely like that would be coming out of my pocket (so why am I paying $480 more?) - how much damage could an excaped chicken do? It is really disgusting. But I do love my girls. Thanks for the video and beware of insurance.

      Sorry - my mistake! My policy went up $40 (NOT $480) for the year. But between that, the feed and the care, these eggs are like gold.

    I have 16 hens 🐓 inside the city limits even though the city has a limit of 5 I have them on the down low and I love them. They’re on a open chicken coop 20 feet by 15 feet

    Looks like you have another skill I can ask for advice on! You know I have a good place to have chickens but no experience with them. And if the house was done I would have an area to test your grass growing skills (hint. hint). Hope you had a great Father's Day! I'll be checking out more of your videos!

    Most places at min lets you have 3 hens and roosters are 100% banned. If it's a backyard chickens sorta deal. Often I hear up to 9 hens but 6 is still fair.

    The ones that are cracked I usually throw them back in for them to eat. Had 6 chickens, lost one in the bad storm we had couple months ago. Doing tractor style in an 8x8x6 tall. Plan on doing meat chicken soon too. Ours love the worms too. They go crazy over em

    I just got my chickens . Are flies a big concern and how noisy can they be? We had illegal goats last fall and they were pretty loud . We live in a suburban neighborhood, my neighbors didn’t complain but I knew they were so loud

    • @ernestscribbler2294
      @ernestscribbler2294 Před 2 lety

      Flies are attracted to smell and moisture. Use farmer's lime or Ag-lime to control it and you should be good.

  • @lisaelanna

    Are they very noisy? Not sure if my neighbors would appreciate me having a coop… and do you have to have a bunch of them? Could I just get like 2?

    • @SoThatsHowYouDoThat
      @SoThatsHowYouDoThat  Před 3 lety

      No they are not noisy. Roosters are noisy. I have 5 chickens and yes you can have just 2.
