  • Join Bruce as he hikes Mount Marcy in 2015 (oldie) ...5 hours are condensed into 4 minutes.
    He parks his car at the Gardens parking lot at Keene Valley New York and hikes 3 hours to Slant Rock where he spends the night in his tent. The next day he climbs Mount Marcy... this is his 10th Marcy summit.
    Mount Marcy is the highest peak in New York State at 5344 feet above sea level.

    Thank you so much for making this video. My family visits my grandparents in Tupper lake every year and we always try to climb a mountain. Last year we climbed Scarface only to find a not really nice view. Now I’m researching so we can do a challenging mountain with a great view

    Since I am a high pointer, this is on my list. I don't know what it is about going above the timberline, but I love it too.

    Nice video! I did the same type of trip last fall; hiked with our tents but stayed at the newish Lean-too there! The view was amazing.

    Great stuff Bruce and The Campologist. Such a nice peak - which we also enjoyed in august. We just released the video on the channel.

    Hi you seem like an experienced hiker. I have a question for you. I’m going to be going to the adirondacks region this weekend with my gf. I will be proposing so I’m wondering if you think that mount Marcy has the nicest in the area?
    Thank you for your time!

    • @Campology
      @Campology  Před 5 lety +1

      Hi Richard, Marcy is awesome for sure... however for the less experienced it may be overwhelming.... you may want to consider the John brooks lodge as a place to hike from... they give a bunk and 2 meals. Good access to Mt Marcy too. Otherwise there are shorter and easy climbs.... Mt Cascade is only 3-4 hour round trip and the peak is above tree line. The best of luck.

    Hey man. How long does it take to climb the mountain and back?

    • @Campology
      @Campology  Před 4 lety +2

      Ryan Brady - hard to say Ryan... I have always hiked in 1-2 hours and then set “base camp”. Usually 6 hours or so return to base camp.... then zzzzz. So perhaps 8-10 hours return from parking lots. That is similar from all different access points.

    • @gamma_dablam

      Brian Degnan 23 km total distance. Most people tend to take longer to descend.

    Very well made video. Do you find it tiring to stop, place the camera, hike ahead then turn back to get the camera and then start hiking again? Amazing difference on a clear day. I went with thick clouds above 4500 feet so you can image the wind and no scenery.

      Hiking Marcy this summer. Not concerned about bears but can you give me any info on the stat's of snake bites. Been hiking Adirondacks since the late 70s and almost impossible to get any info on snake bite stats. I have an 11 year old that will be hiking with me so a bit concerned. Appreciate any help you can give me on topic.

      Sorry John... I have no accurate scientific answer. Although I don't think I have ever seen a snake in the high peaks. I have attached a link. I can say that all poisonous snakes in NY are rare, passive and shy. www.esf.edu/pubprog/brochure/snakes/snakes.htm

      Thank you. I really appreciate the quick reply. Unfortunately that ecosystem is rapidly changing. Though last year seemed like at least a few bat's we're back. Thanks for the link and btw, great video. Like you wrote. It's like hiking the mountain twice when making a video. Everyone appreciates your effort.

      postward...If you've only seen one poisonous snake in a snake infested area that is so saturated with Timber Rattles there. The New York State Parks Dept had to create a separate entity to rid the area of these snakes you simply got lucky. Giving people the advice not to worry about snakes in Adirondacks is both foolish and dangerous. I'm curious...are you is a rehab facility right now because you were bit and have lost the ability to use common sense?
