Great video Dave. Looking forward to part 2 to see those knives in action.
it may be awhile....Need tough fish like drum and sheepshead. OR I'll just use it against my bamboo. it kills blades fast.
@@CaptDavesSportfishing thanks to Orowack. We love your knife videos.
Nice video Dave. I have had the same Dexter for about 7 years and still works great. I wish mine came with a sheath though.
you can buy all the sheaths you want seperately! amzn.to/3orVKtl
What are your thoughts on Danco fillet knives?
I’ve used dexter and love the blade
I’ve used bubba and I loved the handle but the blade needs to be sharpened too often.
And ive used Danco Pro Series and their cheap fillet knifes and I believe they are the best bang for your buck.
Even though I highly recommend Danco Knives I know for a fact my dexter will last longer than anything else.
DONT care about Danco, never heard of them. You see what I own!

What about the Gerber Controller 10 in? I hear some of these knives come in need of sharpening, but after you sharpen then how long do they hold an edge. I need something I am not having to pull out the diamond plate to sharpen every time I fish. I've seen people say they filleted over 500 fish and the bubba was still sharp. How good they are out of the box does not show the quality of the steel. The only way to know how good they are is to sharpen and test them yourself.
don't like all the BULLSHIT, like the handle and absolute crap sheath. Yeah, so what, I've done 500 fish with my Dexters. Big deal. ITS ALL ABOUT THE STUPID OBTRUSIVE HANDLE, they make everything as long as the marketing department can put the handle on it.
Bells and whistle's, smoke and mirrors. Marketing can be so misleading. We'll see the truth come out! great vid Capt Dave.
📌🔪📌🔪EVERYONE NEEDS TO THANK OROWOCK FOR HIS ENDLESS GENEROUS DONATIONS TO THE CHANNEL. cuz, I would never have done this otherwise.
So I have used both and while both are sharp as hell, I like the grip and feel of the Bubba blade. When we come back in with 20 Mahi in the boat, by the time you are done the grip and feel are important.
I still hate them!!!
Good review. You've proved the Bubba knife is for amateur's. If I want a professional blade that will last I'll get a Dexter Russell.
go with the pro ya know!!
you may started a new series, Victorinox, Swis made, very common in south florida tackle stores
not on this channel......got too many other ideas and plans. Sorry it ran longer than 6 minutes. The usual adult attention span these days, per my analytics.
have had many vics before!
Mr. Dave I've always loved your videos , BUT i have used both dexter and bubba knives for fish and all Texas BBQ meats . And Sir both works just FINE . i used DEXTER for All my bbq meats And Bubba for For Fish ....... And Both of Ive Had to Sharpened Numerous Times at My Restaurant .. Especially Dexter !!!!! Thumbs Up..
obtrusive handle turns me off.
Nice video Dave.
Thanks, but it was all due to Orowock. He sent me it to look over....and later abuse, in part 2.
Bubba Blade looks like Chinese Pooh to me! Dexter Russell FTW!
I'll probably give it away to a lucky winner after Phase 2 of the review.....I will re-sharpen it. Maybe you'll win it. C'mon🔪.
I got 2 bubba blades that i won. Nice handle but the edge was done after 2 snapper. They are overated. I do have a Dexter that i think i bought at the Florida sportsman show in 2000 that is my favorite blade. No rust and hit stays sharp if you take care of it...but you do look cool with a bubba in your hand
Skippa.....in my eyes you look the ''opposite''. hahahaha
Never bought into the hype of the bubba blade for the ridiculous price they want. Give me a dexter or danco any day.
thats the 2nd time danco has been mentioned. Never heard of them. But don't really care, either. Just put a razor edge on 2 budget Dexter ''basics'', from Japan. GOOD GAWD, they're worthy of going in the boat!! With my other 6 Dexters. If anyone needs a loaner fillet knife at the boat ramp, C'mon by if ya see me there. Mastering my new WEN wet sharpener: wenproducts.com/products/bg4270-10-inch-two-direction-water-cooled-wet-dry-sharpening-system
Only thing that matters if it’s sharp. Got a handle and a blade 3 parts
Very good I have the sg 142-8te serrated. And the Sg-133 8 hc stainless for onboard. And a s 118-12 watermelon for staking fish. And for my heavy duty filleting I use a wood handle dexter 2333-9 carbon steel it’s a cutting machine. I just got a 41842-6 carbon Steel capping knife for the tuff fish I like the steel knives I think thay are sharper but thay are more maintenance and thay do rust stainless might hold an edge longer bubba blade I will not spend the money thay want and watching fillet vids thay don’t cut that good let us know and with Beijing Biden I’m sure everyone will be forced to use a bubba you know the comme China connection
Interesting video. I have both and actually prefer the Bubba blade. It holds an edge alot longer than the dexter. I would love to see you actually use the knife then give an honest opinion
I DID. And can't get over the obtrusive handle! Doesn't work for me. The whole, sell that handle on everything is such a gimmick.
The only thing bad about dexter is the cheap looking plastic handle. Just build better and charge better
HANDLES DON'T CUT FISH! The Dexter Handles have been the same for eon's.
Why didn't you do a Dexter video.??....you chose to be negative against the Bubba....
I have numerous videos about a real fillet knife, called dexter russell. Go to a commercial fish house you won't see a single knife basing it's whole existence on some goofy red handle.
@@CaptDavesSportfishing it's not about you...this is for real anglers....not some old fat n busted guy in his garage cleaning carp n suckers....
I guess I'm not one of the cool guys because I use DEXTER- RUSSELL & not Bubba bs blade
I thought the same thing originally until I grabbed a bubba and tried it out. Now that's all I use. From fileting fish, butchering deer, to slicing brisket. It's bubba for the win.
IT'S A STUPID RED OVER PRICED CHINA GIMMICK HANDLE, and there is no ''life style'' haha
I say buy American if at all possible. If it's not the best make it work.
yep, if ya can.
I agree 100% Sometimes you can't buy USA made. A few years back I went to buy bicycles for me and my wife. I went to a local bike shop because I also believe in supporting small local business when I can. I asked the guy to sell me something made in the USA. He said there is nothing excluding a custom made bike at about 1500 dollars a piece. I asked a Schwinn? he said nope there made in China. I can't spend 1500 on a bike. So I have China bikes but I tried.
With dexter you don't get the life style and the cool guy sticker. 🤣
NOPE, and you may not be 15 yrs old either.
I personally prefer Dexter over Bubba.
thats a no brainer
This is like comparing Pabst Blue Ribbon to white claw seltzer beer! Is it really a comparison of what real fisherman would use or drink?? Real fisherman vs TV pretty boy fishing! Same thing. It’s all about the packaging now, just look at how pretty potato chip bags look now, compared to what’s inside the bag! Nothing🤷♂️ Americans have been duped into buying brand, and “Lifestyle” because that’s how They take your money, and give you nothing for it but a sticker! Maybe one out of 10 Chinese made products last more than 30 days, and we are ok with it😪
we'll have 4 years with two Chinese brands here soon. only a noose would fix that!
Ice Fishermen from Northern Manitoba up here in Canada. The Bubba 7" Tapered Flex is probably the best filleting knife I've owned. Have filleted hundreds of walleyes with it now the past 1.5 years, it holds a great edge and cleans my catch perfectly. :)
not impressed with a gimmick handle, that I find gets in the way.
let me know when you see the commercial fish houses all over Florida using bubba blades.
Dexter is ok if you only catch a couple of fish at a time I think this is what's going on here but the Bubba is for the serious fisherman cleaning lots of fish at a time there's a new sheriff in town and his name is Bubba!
Now that wins funniest comment award!!!!!!! bubba is a gimmick. tell that to hundreds of commercial kitchens, fish houses and commercial fisherman.
🤣 never seen a Bubba knife used at a fish market. Seen plenty of Dexter's though
@@senortrob tell that to all the goof balls who don't realize they are marketing a BIG red obtrusive handle for fairy wand fisherman!
My🐕 dogs name is bubba
I choose the bubba blade
Plus
It's orange
good luck with that when it comes to serious fish processing!
What a hater!!!! Dave... What did THEY do to you. First impression... I will never know how much dexter paid you to make this video. And whining about a sticker is just pathetic. Dave... God bless you bro... but let Bubba be.
🤣🤣🤣
Guys a joke 😂
where's your review bubba blades are a joke like you obviously
When you do a real filet review I will decide on that Thumbs up. 👍
oh I'm shakin'
@@CaptDavesSportfishing 😆👍
Your review is kinda crappy , I've owned about 29 different knives and I love my bubba
how about you go do your own videos & go shove your bubba
Dexter is a nice filet knife. but very stiff. bubba has more flex. skins fish off the filet closer to the skin gets more meat off. bubba is sharper though. guaranteed I have both. the sheath on the bubba is like a toy, not even safe to carry. handle and the name is annoying. I just stick with my Gerber. my dexter I can afford to loan out. they're so cheap. only take the Gerber on big trips use for myself. I dont give a Shit where a product is made. half the stuff I use is from China anyways. I have a thermal scope made in china that out performs out warranties my military grade Thermal scope that costs 3X more..
dont care.....bubba is a joke. DEXTERS come in all types, flex and non-flex. you'll never see it used by real pro's. handle gets in the way. USA-USA!
Bubba knife over priced
