Yeah, he did the verse/chorus bits in separate takes, which makes sense if you want to change your amp settings or (in this case) move your hairband to get more or less dampening. Also because playing a song this intricate could be frustrating to try to get it perfectly in just one take. Much easier to break it up so you don't have to redo the whole thing if you mess up at the very end.

Hi Nolan15x, it switches the settings on the guitar to a different pickup, the black rectangles that pick up the string vibrations. Different players prefer different pickup settings. The switch is used typically on bridge or neck position for different sounds. Hope this helps, happy learnings.

There are also a few people who say his pinky was involved in an accident (although I don't know how true that is). Maybe that's why he doesn't feel like using it as much. Just something to consider.

He played piano as a young child. He says he has better flexabillity in his pinky than his ring finger.
He can rip up the fretboard without it so does it matter?
He has always favoured his 1st 3 fingers he always has a big stretch in them cause he played piano as a young kid and his pinky just feels loads weaker to him but he does use it but hes more comfy with 3 finger approach

He does use his pinky. Is his hand going too fast for you to see it? The chorus at like 1:19 and 1:22, the maj7 and min7 taps at like 1:52, parts of the main solo at 3:18, 3:22, 3:28, 3:45. Not to mention this is a demo version of what appears on the actual album track: Andy's improved this song over time including his use of his pinky. Nevertheless, it's his style to prefer the other three fingers, and it's *clearly* working for him. Peace.

In reference to his pinky I belevie in one of his video's Andy mentions that he avoids using it becase it is double jointed hence changing the way it contacts a string and it sounds (to his ears) like rubbish. Besides me manages just fine without it so whats it matter?

I noticed a lot of excellent guitarists seem to for some reason. Marty Friedman as well. Mine trips me up sometimes -- I can see where depending on your style you might do better without it.
It's an old song, so it may be an old video from before he got them.

This video is edited. If you pay attention to the hair band on the neck it moves from the 1st fret to the 4th multiple times without him even touching it... Good solo though

It's ok if he doesn't feel the need, but if he wants to play something on classical guitar he will have to start learning how to play again... for me it's that he was badly taught and now he is adapted, but is not ok for the complete understanding of the instrument from my point of view.

While A7X is a little too emo for my taste, you gotta give credit where credit is due. They are talented musicians, skill wise, but their music isn't really what I would call Metal per se. However it would be remiss of you and I to say they suck, because they sure can shred.
