  • If you apply the tape when the moving surface is at it's MAXIMUM deflection, at every other angle, there is very little tension! I worked this a while back after putting the tape on while the moving surface was flat, then noticed that the servo was struggling to move the flap.
    You can buy this tape on eBay (which tends to be more expensive, but do check) or on HobbyKing here goo.gl/RW4Bfq
    I hope it helps you!!
    As always thanks for watching & happy flying,
    Matt

    Good work. Another good hint ; always keep your tape in a bag to avoid crap building up on the edge of the roll !

    I purchased some hinge tape once from a hobby shop. The inside of the roll said benderm, went to my local drugstore (pharmacy), asked the price for the tape…..surprise, surprise I can get a box of 12 rolls of the tape for the price of three rolls at the hobby shop….D#$&o repackaged the tape and it costed a small fortune…..since then I wander through the aisles to see what I can use in my rc hobby as there is no local hobby shop.

    Another tape for hinges is hockey tape and is available at many sporting goods shops. It looks like Blenderm but it's stronger, and it's a LOT cheaper.

      Is there a different kind than the fabric stuff you wrap the stick with? Blenderm can be found on Ebay or medical websites cheaper that's where I get it.

    A cut my flying surfaces off...then hinge them both sides using glass strand tape. Far less friction and a strong durable hinge with less load on the servo.

    The only problem surface for Blenderm tape is EPP foam as it's a rougher texture than other foams used in model making. It will work perfectly well if you prime the surface with a narrow film of clear adhesive such as UHU Por etc

      Howdy fella, absolutely! A thin smear of goop glue normally does it EPP model hinges, thats what I normally use instead of blenderm on those ones. Matt

    Is that safe to use this technique for bigger planes like X-UAV Clouds?

  • @JoshWeaverRC

    Funny you said it is for medical. I added my old Army medical kit in the box now that I am playing with nitro motors. I saw the old tape in the kit and thought what's the difference.

    • @awuma
      @awuma Před 4 lety +1

      Blenderm tape is not recommended for nitro planes.

    Have you tried
    Cutting off aileron completely and us pinned hinges ? .

    • @RagTheNutsOff
      @RagTheNutsOff  Před 6 lety

      Howdy Paul, I have done that on other models. But I must admit, I end up CA'ing at least one hinge 😁

    • @Paul-pb3vq
      @Paul-pb3vq Před 6 lety

      RagTheNutsOff
      Yes does happen .
      But what I do is carefully put a tiny drop of thin oil on pinned part of the hinge , but make sure no oil goes on the flat part were glue goes .
      I use a cocktail stick and work the hinge before glueing .

      @OldMtnGeezer Před 6 lety +1

      My technique for pinned hinges - melt a small dab of Vaseline in a teaspoon, dip just the pin edge into the liquid, work it back & forth as it congeals, & then wipe off any excess. CA proof.

      @RagTheNutsOff  Před 4 lety +1

      Howdy Joe, that works, but remember that gets affected by sunlight and will fray/unstick relatively quickly if not covered. Matt

    Scotch "magic tape" is just as good and cheaper, get from most stationary supplies

    • @grasuh
      @grasuh Před 6 lety +5

      Blenderm is much more durable, flexible, and stays on more securely. Hinge is one of those things you don't want to be shoddy. Happy flying!

      @@RagTheNutsOff it may be a really old video but have you learnt to put on hinge tape correctly?
      There's nothing worse than years of perpetual error
