Came here to say this!
The world needs more Sams in it. Always positive, always smiling, always birds
if everyone won the vagina lottery like Sam there would be
He’s not smiling all the time. He has a small upper lip that prevents his teeth to be covered.
WAS THAT NOT MAGIC...so happy to share that moment.
and always commercials interrupting this tranquility ))
@@woreoutdavinciconstruction4060 WTF is that supposed to mean? Sam has his own problems. He's just a positive person. You can't pick your circumstances, but you can choose how you react to those circumstances. Yes, it's a deterministic universe and you have limited freedom.
Your videos inspired me to buy a sailboat and learn to sail. I managed to purchase a 1977 30' Pearson and sail it up and down the Florida coast. Thanks for sharing and safe travels!
1964 Pearson Vanguard was my first real sailboat. I miss her. She was fine to sail. ❤
How much does something like that cost?
@itsOZone I paid $5500.00 for the 1977 Pearson and sold it for $7500.00 two months later. Then I bought a Catalina 30 1994 for $20,000. I am currently preparing for our next trip. Last season, I lived on the sailboat for six months, and it was amazing.
"I'm so frustrated with this thing!" (said while still smiling). "There's a shark! But I'm going back out. This time I'll take knife." (said while still smiling). I love this channel. The World needs more of this kind of relentless optimism and willingness to just not let anything stop ya. Keep up the good work, Sam!
"My boat came untied and was floating away" still smiling. 🤣He is the best.
Indeed Mark R.
Mark Rebuck it's called being resilient
It inspires me that he never breaks from a shit eating grin. Perseverance and tenacity are essential!
It all made sense to me after he revealed he had a colostomy bag. I guess if you survive, what, colon cancer? at such a young age one must think they have nothing to lose. seize the day, right?
Excellent stuff Sam . I used to be a delivery ( mostly single handed until the insurance companies insisted I had to have crew) captain after sailing all over the World . Advice , all tethered points for your personal safety harness should be machine screws or bolts with fender washers and nuts . I lost a good friend in the Indian Ocean as the deck fitting for his harness was screwed and not bolted. Thanks for all the great videos .
GHA, I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your friend. I spent along time sailing in the IO but I did it on a 1000' aircraft carrier. We too lost a sailor in the IO during bad weather, he worked in my division. I worked on the flight-deck catching aircraft on the arresting gear engines. That was great advice you gave Sam, be safe my friend...
Sam, I want to reiterate what many others have said here. The light screws for the padeye for the safety harness are too light. I am retired from the USCG. I have pitch poled on a 44. I have seen deck fittings that were bolted into a steel deck pulled free. I saw a coxswains chair with multiple bolts ripped from the deck. I applaud your desire to make yourself safe. But please beef up the anchor points.
Additionally if you can get rid of the shackle on the mast for the whisker pole/spinnaker pole you will be much better off. During the video I saw the shackle slide to the leward side of the mast. thus when you apply back pressure on the outboard end of the pole you risk putting the pole in a bind and snapping the pole. You would be better off to put a larger ring on your mast that will accommodate the pole and keep it on the front of the mast and not off to the leward side.
Fair winds.
Son, please listen to these people who are giving advice regarding your safety! Please.
Well I’d have to say, Sam, the USCG is somewhat of an expert, this is minor for you to do, get us all off your back, lol
@@mhensen1 You probably have never left the marina.
Damage, Inc. no but i saw one once, does that count?
Damage, Inc. It’s hilarious what people say over the internet to others they know absolutely nothing about!
One thing I genuinely enjoy about your videos is not having constant music in the background! It's nice not to hear some non-copyright acoustic guitar.
Thanks for mentioning that, I enjoy watching videos, but the music is annoying.
Me too.
Amen
Amen +1
Sam, dont use screws for your safety harness pad eyes! They need to be through bolted and probably add a backing plate.
Keep up the videos, probably one of my favorite channels I've come across. Hope to get out there myself some day.
Two more comments about safety.
#1. Always have a 75' line attached to you if you leave your boat and it is not anchored securely.
#2. Find a good size diving knife and wear a thigh scabbard with the knife in it. Make sure it is secured to you with a line too.
Doing both of these things could save your life.
Tying a fender to a medium long line cleated to the stern works well.
sam holmes is literally my asmr
The whole "going for a swim in the open ocean" thing seems terrifying to me
With light winds and a line in hand connected to boat I’d be ok with that. What are the risks?

Most sharks are closer to shore!
To fix noisy cables inside your mast without installing conduit: Pull the cable, then attach long zip ties every 12", 120 degrees apart - don't cut the tails off the zip ties. Re-install the cables in the mast. The zip ties will prevent the cables from slapping, but will not interfere with internal halyards.
That's a great idea and I saw that Sam did exactly that! Good on you!
Use UV resistant zip ties. A quality brand like Ty-Rap or Panduit. Home depot stuff will fail quickly.
I always put Sam's videos on in the background while I do my design work. Very relaxing and the little doses of serotonin from listening to him have a good time keeps me happy and productive.
Sam, You have convinced me to go for it. I'm 69 yrs. old and have very little sailing experience. Between lack of money and lack of confidence I almost gave up. I think I will buy a salvage boat in the keys and work on her. Thank you very much I'm a bird person too
I am absolutely in love with how tame those birds are I cannot wait to sail and see them for myself!
Sam, out of all the sailing channels yours is my favorite. Thanks for the enjoyable journeys.
A sailing channel that actually shows sailing! Great video. Thanks.
😆😂 when all the birds show up
I just bought an S2 24 foot and am learning to sail. You are a big inspiration!!
Sam. You will probably never see this, but you mentioned your cables slapping around inside your mast. I had the same thing on my Ericson 26. Bugged the heck out of me. So I took the mast down and pulled the cables out and got some big honking zip ties and tied the cables together in a bundle but left the tails on. Each tie was about a foot apart. When I put it back in the mast all the tie tails braced the cable cluster and no more slapping around. It worked great and was very cheap. No conduit necessary. Love the videos, Thanks.
I’m a sailor myself -nothing better than riding the wind!!! When I watch your video I feel like I’m on the boat as your crew mate-Only to realize I’m just lying in my warm bed at my home
It passed midnight and I couldn't realized how fast the time went while watching this video. Sam thanks for sharing man, we (as a family) love your content and you inspire us not just in terms of sailing but also your way of approaching to things in general, you are one positive, naive, wonderful person. Cheers man, have fun and make great memories and please do share as much as you can : )
I would definitely use nuts/bolts on the tether hook up.
Sam, please integrate a map into your video as a visual. It would be cool to see an overlay of your route from time to time throughout the video.
The cut after you saw the shark made me laugh so hard. Man, these videos make me want to learn how to sail and learn it well enough to do it full-time.
Sam, huge high five to you for rocking that ostomy bag in this video. I also rock the bag, and it's awesome to see what you are doing!
Here in South Africa we're not allowed out on our boats so you're living the dream for all of us right now 😊
"That was the last time Sam was ever seen again." :)
I was like man ...got me lol
Sam, you are a serious inspiration to me, man. We're about the same age, and I want to save up my money for my first boat after following your sailing videos for so long now. You really showed me how possible living a solo life of adventure could be (without Van Life lol).
Thanks Sam for this video it’s you’re best one yet in my opinion, it was worth the wait! The boat looks great you’ve done a lot of work on it so far I look forward to your next video adventure. 👍🏻
When a bird lands on your boat give it fresh water

This has to be one of my favorite sailing videos ever. It really make me want to go sailing. Thanks!
13:17, love this moment with the little bird!
A definition of a terrifying sound is hearing a shackle pin hit the deck! ahaha
Fantastic trip! Great content all around Sam! Thank you for taking us with you.
You're always so happy, it's so infectious. I can see the excitement for adventure you have and I would love to sail with you one day.
Looks so perfect, love it!
Rain wind and sun.
Absolutely my favorite sailing channel. Love the happy optimistic approach.
Loved the long video. Thanks for taking us along with you.
Big fan of your long videos, keep up the fantastic work and informative content. Hope more trips come soon!
Great video. Usually when I watch a longer video, I kind of scroll through and watch the parts that look interesting, I watched all of yours, really cool. I once had a 20’ Catalina I sailed around some of the lakes in eastern Ohio. Really enjoy your videos.
Living the Dream! Good one, Sam!
Great video , I never get tired of watching Sam Holmes reruns ! Reality at it's best ! Cheers
Great job! Love your tenacity. You're very brave.
Sam you really make me laugh some times. Your level of relaxation towards problems and challenges is amazing. I just got myself a 27 that I am getting ready for some solo adventures like you. I hope I can keep the cool like you. So what was the deal about the shackle? Jajajaj. Anyways keep the adventures that many of us are watching after you and your good spirit
+10 for Henrietta reference! Also, thrilled to see more fishing, hoping for more of that in the future. LOVE this stuff.
Sailing vicariously through you Sam, thank you!
Sweet little trip Sam! Looked like a lot of fun. Glad to see the whisker pole is working for you. Stay safe and keep living on your terms!
I love falling asleep to your long sails. Makes me feel like I’m on a boat and out there :( what a dream!
Great Video! Thanks for taking us along.
You just made my life came true with this episode
im so glad to see this, you really made my day
Really enjoy your videos. A much more realistic channel to most others. Thank you for taking time out of your travels to post these.
Good stuff as usual You have the best sailing channel as you truly seem to enjoy sailing
Thanks Sam. That Boat upon entering Jefferson seemed a little close there, from left to right.
Your videos have inspired me to learn to sail, keep them coming.
Awesome as always!

Thanks, Sam. Enjoying a peek into the realities of day to day sailing life with you, and good ole Wild Herring! Cheers 👋
Awesome video Sam. I enjoyed every minute of it.
Another great video Sam! Cheers to you, your vessel, and the birds!
I've never sailed a day in my life. Love this channel. Thanks for taking us along on your adventures!
I love these videos. So calming, fun adventures and chill. I like to watch them to calm my mind before going to bed. My grandfather was always really into sailing and I regret not ever being able to experience it. By watching your videos I feel like I'm there. Thanks for posting.
Good job Sam. Look forward to the next one.
I don't even really know how to swim, let alone sail, why am I binge watching these at 1am
You are going love your Cape Dory! Great in heavy weather and a pig in light air. But they are stout!
Oh wow! So pretty there. Might be nice to have a travel fishing pole, that folds up. I imagine it must be so difficult to film this, very exciting to see actual sailing happening close up, and how you handle all the issues. It feels like sailing would take your whole life, to find all the ins and outs of it.
As a long time sailor, I would like to give you my advise - take it for what it is worth. Your fittings you attached for your Jack Lines appeared to only be screwed into the fiberglass - do you really think the shock load of you falling overboard tethered to that will hold? They should be thru bolted with fender washers and sealed with bedding compound - i.e.. 3M4200 or Butyl tape. You need to protect all fastenings you do on the boat from corrosion and moisture leakage. I admire your adventurous spirit, but some things need to be done right the first time. Also clean up your lines - coil them correctly.
Mark Friebertshauser dang. Seems kinda dangerous to not do things as bet as possible before long sails :/
I hope he sees this ASAP & fixes whatever that stuff is
You cracked me up with the overboard dishwashing. Yes, don’t throw it overboard unless it’s tied to the boat. Love the friendly birds!
Great video Sam! Thanks for sharing.
Just a comment to support the channel. We love you Sam! ❤
Sam....love your vids. Can hardly wait until the next one comes out.
Great video Sam. Keep up the good work! I enjoy your videos.

Thanks Sam. I watched this in stages at my leisure and thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm sure you are so fond of your capable little boat and many viewers are becoming so too. Getting the bird to go onto your hand was incredible. I bet they are well knackered...probably flown over from Africa? Looking forward to your next vlog.

Loved the video, Sam. Thank you.
I especially like that you incorporated some diagram/illustration into this edit. It’s cool learning terms and techniques and it would work well to describe your challenges with mooring approaches, inlets etc. plus it’s good filler between action shots. Keep it up. Thanks Sam 😎 .
Good clip, Sam...love your attitude about adjusting destinations according to prevailing winds. There's always tomorrow...
What a joy to watch. I’ve mostly sailed on a lake in Iowa but dreamt of what you are doing.. Thanks so much for the videos!
Great video Sam,the best yet, that drone shot when you were anchored was fantastic!
So awesome, Sam. Fort Jefferson is an amazing place, you are so blessed to have the ability to sail there yourself. I took the ferry out, loved it.
Ya know what I like about this video most is that your video is about what you did and not some staged drama .. sailing .
I like to hear about the trials and tribulations of the journey and what you did in n response.
Keep it real Sam !
Just catching up on your playlist. Loving this vid - reminds me of when I did the Keys in 08/09. That water colour is awesome, and just bumbling along in a 30-something ft sailboat is so much fun.
