"...I don't really drive the car at part throttle anyway....." yes, we'd noticed ;-)😁
😃
I’m going to be harsh & say you’ve made the car slower. The torque spread on the old set up was better & it’s that pushes you up the road. The difference in power isn’t worth connecting on.
I also said a while ago that Zetecs don’t want bigger jets & to go smaller.
Don’t take this as a criticism but some useful words from a wiley old fox that’s been there mate. 👍
Thanks for the advice mate! 👍 This engine would have realistically made 155 when it was in the Focus (they never make 170)
I watched the video on Ester being finished. Looks awesome mate.
Im very happy with how Esther looks mate! 👍
Glad to see the carbs are doing there thing at last. Top bloke and top video as always mate. Be lucky!!
Thanks Jonny! 👍
Sounded good Marcus ! 👍 and it didn’t dump any fluids which is always a good thing !🤣
So far now fluids lost! 😃
That hotwheels set is sick! Just paused the video and ordered one myself, 60 quid! 😬😅
Soo expensive but just had to be bought! 😃
Great video pal..things are comeing together for you now with your cars..time for some Mexico action..facebook page is brill..🏴👍🥶
Thanks mate! 👍 Defo going to have tpo make a trip to 'Mexico' soon! 😃
Time for a decent Facet fuel pump Marcus. Cracking result 🚙 👍🇬🇧
I tried a Facet pump and Malpasi regulator before, but even with the regulator at the lowest setting fuel would leak from the breathers on the carbs. 👍
@@marcushayesford I think dcoe’s are nice except the constant tuning of them they sound awesome too. Goodbye bike carbs more hassle than they are worth. Be interesting to see a 28/36 dcd or a 38/38dgas as you had good result on the old engine with your old twin choke.
And your mark one Escort looks awesome he’s done a good job of it and it take you over one now as well get him to do that one spray it
👍
This one was a good 👍 education. Good to see a master at work on the Dyno.thank you Marcus.
Chris is defo a master! 👍
Happy with that Marcus/🐱 cat. Safe enough. Happy days fella
👍
Great stuff Marcus, glad to see everything is going their by your side of the world,Keep up the good work buddy.Dewald from S.A
Thanks mate! 👍
Get those hotwheels out that box and play with them what you saving them for 😁. Glad the mk2's sorted now 👍
haha! 👍 Tempted to by a car mat now! 😃
At least she’s set up safe, that’s the main thing. Great video as always Marcus
Thanks mate! 👍
As always, great to see you in a positive frame of mind mate, great to see progress on a fine collection of escorts,👍
👍
Brilliant well done mate atleast you know now it’s safe to drive and not gonna let you down and bike carbs all set up 😊😊😊👊🏻👊🏻
👍
Pretty good going on bike carbs m8 ..and this time no real problems with the engine pick up Maude is sounding great with its growl ....👍
162 is defo enough to have fun and get sideways mate! 😃 'Maude' does sound really aggressive but I think its because her exhaust is so worn out! 😃
Awesome a long wait for the dino wot a awesome result look forward to seeing a driving video after the fuel pump is sorted
Thanks mate! 👍
123kw....165hp....👍...that's a ripper ....had same kw in 1989 gts-t , manual SKYLINE.stock...and that was MAD FUN......Maude be a absolute RIPPER 👍,torque Bit ..more....
Iv always said that 150 bhp is enough to have fun in a RWD Escort. Im not looking to win any races or boast about numbers. 👍
Great results. I'm glad you only had issues with the pump after the session hope u get that sorted soon
Im so glad the issues didnt happen on the dyno! 😃
Great result...and sounding sweet buddy, sort that fuel pump and then off to Mexico for a shakedown run 👍👍👍
Defo need to make a trip to 'Mexico' soon mate! 👍
Another great video was glad you didn’t get any real problems on the rollers fair bit of difference between bike carbs and throttle bodies
Thanks mate! 👍 Yeh these carbs arn't very big so I always knew she wouldnt make the same power as Esther's ITB setup.
Bloody fuel pump!
I can't believe the amount of trouble you've had with it 😣
Its all part of the fun! 😃
Only just caught up with this mate! You must be chuffed to bits mate! Good stuff! Looking forward to seeing Esther back!
Very glad to have Maude finally tuned mate! 👍
Great results from Maude mate!
👍
Great video I thought 165 so close good job sounds sweet 👍👍
Thanks mate! 👍
Nice one pal.. was waiting for that vlog. Be back on the road soon
Yeh mate! 👍 She'll be back on the road very soon! 😃
Congratulations Mate, do you wanna more bhp and Torque????.Great video... again. Never give up.
Thanks mate! 👍 Not really too fussed with any more power at the moment. Maybe one day. Im looking forward to hopefully making my other Escort 200bhp this summer tho. 👍
Sounds great !!!
👍
Sounding noice man
Thanks again fella
Thanks mate! 👍
Great video as always Marcus
Thanks mate! 👍
bin the bike carbs off and got with bike throttle bodies, easier to set up and will give more power.
Maybe one day Ill switch things up. Im not chasing power with this car anyway. Its enough to have fun and go sideways and it makes a nice noise. 👍
I'm a new subscriber enjoying your videos and now playing catch up
Welcome to the channel mate! 👍
first off the block great video as usual mate
Thanks mate! 👍
Great video mate, those CBR fuel pumps always fail and mostly it's the points in them, I race a CBR and it's the same problem over and over, buy a spare one!! Also Kawasaki use same type of pump as do many other make of bike so common to find on ebay 👍
Thanks for the advice mate! 👍
@@marcushayesford No worries mate👍
I'm pretty sure the pump is generic for the 600 and 900 so doesn't need to be a 900 specific pump, but all the cbr600 guys carry a spare pump at race weekends it's the most common failure on them... by taking the cap off and cleaning the points it will probably fire up again
Made good power mate! 162
👍
Nice job once again Marcus and I was only 20 hp off 😆 🤣
👍
Top man Marcus
Get it a fuel swirl pot!!! Great vid...👍👍👍and torque wins races not bhp...
Doh
car 1 240hp and 144lb-ft of Torque This is a car built for performance. It’s likely a sports car that’s loaded with “racetrack DNA,” built for a high top speed, pleasing acceleration and dynamic performance all round. Its torque, while not very low, isn’t commensurate with its raw power and speed in horsepower terms car 2 180hp and 175lb-ft of Torque This is a car perhaps built for utility. The massive torque that it has means it is likely quite capable of carrying a larger payload, pulling a small trailer and coping on slopes. It could be an SUV, or it might even be a piece of farm machinery.
Overall, it may seem quite a simplification to some, but the main separating factors when it comes to application are performance and utility. BHP gives a car performance capabilities with a much higher top-end speed estimate. When you’re on a track and driving competitively, a handful of additional BHP is all you need over an opponent to outmaneuver them and pass them at a critical stage
Air intake on bonnet? Great video.
Thanks mate! 👍
👍👍👍
Was way off with my guess 😂😂😂
Most people were mate! 😃
Just goes to show with these old cars keep it old Skool.......
I have a old 8valve push rod 1780cc cross flow! that makes 154bhp on 45 Webber’s. Forget the 16v throttle body/ bike carb rubbish! Nothing but aggro
Agree. When I bought mine the guys who are going to sort the shell just laughed and said chuck the bike carbs in the bin. So I have.
Had one which did 145 on 40s. Loved the bark of a xflow
How much would it cost to build a 154 bhp crossflow???? My engine cost £250. 😃
A bit more than £250 Marcus!
I always use a facet red top fuel pump 👍
I tried a Facet pump and Malpasi regulator before but even with the regulator at the lowest setting fuel would leak from the breathers on the carbs. 👍
i guessed you would get more power from the ST170, but a good session?? is that a couple of new dents in the bonnet there? haha
would a bonnet vent help the heat issue?
A bonnet vent may have helped I dont know. The dents are old. 😃
We still don t know the wheigt of the beast do we? Let us know Marcus and thanks for the good work.
Shes defo alot heavier than my MK1. 😃
Good going, but goes to show the stock zetec are more than enough rather than hunting out st170, the curve looks a lot nicer on previous setup.
Is the torque dip the vvt switching?
Maybe some louvres at the back of the bonnet to get some hot air out?
And maybe a facet pump and reg rather than that self regulated version
Good video mate. And good work on the fb group
The curve was defo smoother on the DGV. The VVT is mapped with a table rather than being switched on/off. I think when the car is driving along it may do a better job of getting rid of the head. I tried a Facet pump and Malpasi regulator before but even with the regulator at the lowest setting fuel would leak from the breathers on the carbs. 👍
@@marcushayesford how well would your previous downdraft carb work with the st170? Might be a good path to go down for reliability and ease of maintenance seeing as she's a daily?
years ago i fitted a dynojet carburettor kit to a honda fireblade the instructions said to drill out the slide metering holes which is supposed to improve throttle response can't remember the drill bit size which was supplied in the kit but it didn't take the holes out much bigger only about half a mil or so, maybe yours needs to be drilled or not, just a thought .
Thanks for the advice mate! 👍
Did Chris Todd work at Power Engineering in Uxbridge in thd late 90s? If so he tuned a couple of my Series 1 Turbos!
Yes he did mate! 👍 When I met him he did his tuning at Nova Tec.
Considering you run a standalone ecu, why are you not using injectors as this would give much better control of the fuelling. asking as an outsider.
The ECU I am using is for carbs so it doesn't have the ability to control fueling mate. Altho with this particular ECU I can pay a small fee to have the fueling side of things added if I decide to go down the injection route later on. I like carbs tho to be honest altho my favourite car is on Jenvey ITBs. 👍
@@marcushayesford that explains it, didn't realise some stand alone ecu don't inc injector control, all the ones I have dealt with do. Only ever driven one carb car, a vauxhall astra. Why do you prefer carbs, the way I see it they are a pain to set, adjust and are static, whereas with injectors you have total control.
@@matthewwiddows6319 I just like the simplicity of them and the fact they are old skool. If I were to upgrade the setup on 'Maude' I would prob go for a set of Weber DCOEs. 👍
Get the twin choke back on it .
The twin choke is on a blacktop inlet manifold. 👍
You need a facet fuel pump with a pressure regulator, I had the same fuel pump as you have on my silver top and it burned out couldn't
I tried a Facet pump and Malpasi regulator before but even with the regulator at the lowest setting fuel would leak from the breathers on the carbs. 👍
@@marcushayesford I got the lowest pressure fuel pump and have the filterking/regulator at 3.5 but that is using 32/36, I also use an inertia switch in the power wiring
See you went to Novatech before. Have they closed down now?
Not sure mate but Chris does his tuning at Surrey Rolling Road nowadays. 👍
Bike carbs sound great, But not as good as Injection or twin 40s. 👍
I think I prefer the sound of DCOEs the best! 👍
Those Hotwheels sets are $20 in Walmart. Ironically containing models of cars not sold in North America.
Typical! 😃
I've seen the video from the painter with the MK1. She's beautiful, please don't put the card on fibre boot lid back on her.
The blue bootlid will defo be staying on the Mk1! . . . . . . . until i fit the new carbon one! 😃
Hi Marcus , can I ask what brakes do you have on Maude ?
So a st170 engine puts out much the same as a 2.0 back top 🤔 I would like to see what it does with dcoe 40 or 45's
Would defo to better with bigger carbs I reckon. 👍
precisely soldered jets, yeah right.
😃 He used a 'precision drill bit' tho! 😃 . . . . Ill defo be fitting some proper 140s tho. 👍
@@marcushayesford i noticed, I've watched rolling road operators measure drilled out jets three three times, not on my cars i may add, and none were the same, even using "special" drills. Its only a make do we know. Once booked in at a RR and asked to see their stock of jets.... he showed me his little pack of drills and i showed him a lovely rear view of the car
I’d have expected more power from Zetec to ST170 🤔
With the right carb/ITB setup theres defo more power in it. These carbs arn't the biggest. 👍
Ain't those engines ment to make 170bhp out the box, all the messing about with those bike cards and your still down on power 🤷♂️
Theyre just not a good engine to make power with. Typically do around 145hp on an accurate dyno in the focus. Escort will have more drivetrain losses as its rwd.
Yeh never even got close to 170bhp out the factory. Lucky if you made 150bhp.
Iv never heard of a stock Focus ST170 actually making 170 bhp. 👍
Are you making your other mk2 completely bog standard?
I think it would hrlp your channel..
Your mk1 looks Sweet ,,
Best Wishes 👍👍
Plans for the new project are to keep her relatively stock mate! 👍
what gear does a rolling road run the car in when on the dyno?
Usually in 4th.
Yep usually 4th. 👍
So I get a free sticker cos I said 162bhp lol..
🤔
@@marcushayesford when you put the post up saying guess the bhp I put 162 bhp but only commented didn't email
Them pumps are rubbish if its aftermarket The genuine Honda ones ore ok but expensive
Thanks for the advice mate! 👍 There are so many pumps at all different prices and they all look the same! 😃
