  • On March 10, Ron Suskind, Pulitzer-winning journalist and Lecturer on Law, interviewed Catharine MacKinnon, a noted legal scholar and activist who has led the fight for women’s equality since the 1970s. The two discussed the intersection of law with public narratives of justice and equality, including MacKinnon’s past work and current debates surrounding sex trafficking, prostitution and the what the current political landscape bodes for women’s rights.

Thank you for uploading this, Harvard Law. MacKinnon has fought so tirelessly for women's equality and I always love listening to her speak.
"If this is what they thought inequality was, and their vision of what equality looked like, here was no questions about why we didn't have it. It was about these ideas of sameness and difference: that if you're the same as somebody, you get to be equal to them but if you're different from them, you don't. Which given the definition of sex as a difference, begins to give you a clue."

Suskind doesn't interview MacKinnon so much as explain her life to her, talk over her, and smirk smugly. She handled it with so much grace. "There are a couple of questions I have about the narrative structure in there."

Mary Hickman explaining a backstory to an audience gives basis for an interview. This did seem casual more conversational. Maybe you just don't like this guys style of interview but it does not take away from what she has to say.

As a guy, I resent Susskind's interruptions. If he would just open the audience for questions. And then moderate a bit.

I found out about her from one of my classes. I don't think I agree to the full extent that she believes in feminism, but I figured I should still hear her out. Her advocate against workplace abuse is very much so warranted as it was in the 1970s.
I don't really agree with the idea that men or women are equal or should strive to be perfectly equal because of unchangeable biological differences. Women deserve rights and should not be disseminated against for their sex, but at the same time both men and women need to recognize the biological importance of our sex. I think the rejection our biology has been a disaster for the entire western world leading to the rise of transgender theory, rapid decline in birth rates, and mass drop in long term relationship satisfaction for both genders.
