  • This is a review of the Blackwing Long Point One-Step Pencil Sharpener ( amzn.to/3vw7wp4 ). It's an all-metal, premium pencil sharpener that is nicely made and creates strong pencil points that are nice and long but not too long.

    Fun fact for anybody into wooden pencils, when it comes to type of sharpening there's convex and the straight sharpening angle you see on most sharpeners.
    This Blackwing one is in the Convex category, and shows about the same amount of lead as the standard Kum Longpoint, but less wood. The extreme version of this point would be the M+R Pollux, which creates a point similar to the Kum Masterpiece.
    I'd say in my opinion this Blackwing one is the most balance, the Pollux is a bit extreme for me. For hand-crank sharpeners, there's the Earl Ain Sharpener for convex points and the Uni KH-20 for standard longpoints.

      2 years late, and I might be wrong, but isn't it concave?

    Great review! I think I like this length of sharpening is more ideal than the super long one you have featured previously.

    I use a similarly priced sharpener for long points, the swordfish pointi. It's extremely good.

    Yeah I was given two as separate birthday presents and both are mangling the pencils! Definitely a risk when spending that kind of money. Single sharpener cost £41 and the other was part of a set that was £54.

    Is the blade standard or need to purchase a proprietary blade?

      @@unsharpen Crenellations are more used to describe the pattern of gaps on top of a defensive wall.
      I'd say alignment notches is the term you were looking for.

      @@unsharpen I've got a question I've been curious about for some time, but wasn't sure how responsive you were to comments!
      What do you do that enables you to use and go through so many writing instruments and refills? Rather, what do you do that has you writing all the time?
      I understand collecting and trying out stationery for review, but I'm surprised you actually finish refills, given how many choices of instrument you have, and always have somethinig new.

    Hi there! I just got one of these and I like it but it snaps off my point sometimes before I can even call it sharp.. how come?? always about at the same length. Mostly coloured pencils, is it not suitable for coloured pencils?

    • @unsharpen
      @unsharpen  Před 5 měsíci

      Check for a tip piece that’s stuck in the sharpener, at the end of the blade!

    • @meeguu
      @meeguu Před 5 měsíci

      Thanks for your reply! Its not that, theres nothing in the sharpener, but it breaks off the tip of my coloured pencil so when I take it out its broken, if that makes sense

    what is the point of a long point pencil?

    • @unsharpen
      @unsharpen  Před 3 lety +3

      Sharper tip. Lasts longer. Better for shading when used at a low angle.

    really nice sharpener, i never thought a sharpener could be that nice. on a different note, try to get a pop filter for your mic, it would improve your p's and t's and not saturate the audio

    1. I just love over-engineered stuff like this.
    2. Still looking for a pencil sharpener that just removes the wood. Like the first sharpener in a double sharpener, but exposing more lead. Maybe such a thing doesn't exist, since pencils don't have a standardized lead diameter. Nevermind.
