BJJ White Belts: you'll get better at Jiu Jitsu faster if you start with these 3 sweeps

  • Sweeping is arguably the most important offensive tool in your Jiu Jitsu arsenal. Everyone wants to see the big submission or throw, but it's the threat of sweeping or standing up that usually leaves the opponent open for the submission to happen in the first place.
    The problem is, sweeping is also one of the hardest skills to develop in BJJ. The understanding of base and balance, combined with the sensitivity required to feel the timing make it so difficult to learn as a new grappler.
    These 3 sweeps will unlock a lot of the knowledge and skill you're gonna need to move forward and start developing a dangerous guard game, so if you're a white belt in jiu jitsu START HERE!

    Became my fave BJJ channel nowadays. Could you please explain if on Gi, the best defense against guillotine and chokes while dogfight sweep or backtake is exclusively dependant on that "coyote" position of the feet or maybe i could keep the same foot pinched while i rotate around for the back trying to hide the head on the chest. Congrats for the amazing content.

  • @mjolnir9855
    @mjolnir9855 Před rokem +6

    I love the half guard a lot, so this plays right into my game. I find myself getting half more often than fighting for the full guard when I'm escaping cross side. Full guard is best for attacking, but I'm a big guy, so It's difficult for me to regain guard sometimes when I'm rolling. Big thighs my getting that knee deep enough across their body difficult.

    • @TheAngerman77
      @TheAngerman77 Před rokem

      My legs make that difficult also

    • @BJJourney
      @BJJourney Před rokem

      Its really insane how the half guard can adapt to the game of the big, the medium and the small. I take advantage of my small size and speed to dive under my bigger oponents and i would go for the dogfight underhook leading back take or a sweep. If ive got whizerd id go for deep half back take or again sweep. That game can be really annoying but sometimes ive got ribs injuries against the heaviers more than most.

    Thank you so much for another great video! One point of feedback- can you work with larger-than-you size partners? That would really help us see and learn the important mechanical aspects because right now its hard to observe which (finer) details of your position affect the opponent’s, whose light frame seems way too easily movable.. with a heavy opponent it’s much easier to see how the technique directly moves the opponents body

    In the lockdown-warmups with one underhook we use the pimp arm to stop the opponents leg, but when we have DUH we want to catch the leg for electric chairs and sweeps. Why do we want to stop the leg using the pimp arm when we have only one underhook?

    There is a better way to do that bump sweep. Cowboy up to your palm(get of elbow). The leg on the side you are sweeping to should go to the floor to trap the leg. Works well even if they are already postured well.
