- How to use a socket wrench you ask! Well, this is just one small part of how to use a ratchet and socket set.
Normally small, DIY/hobby ratchet sets include a small plastic spin disk and this video show you how to use it effectively.
Note, DO NOT discard the plastic disk with your ratchet set!

wth?...you solved all my lifes problem without even saying a word...thank you!👍🏼👍🏼
Hey, sometimes actions speak much louder (and clearer) than words.
Yoooo, u took the muted words right out of my closed mouth lmbooo
Just bought a socket wrench set. Love how there’s a CZcams video for practically every mystery on Earth!
It's only a mystery until you know... and now you know, so go forth and spread the knowledge.
Dude I seriously have had my set for a solid year and from day one I’ve always wondered wth that was used for . it finally got to me after having to use my ratchet tonight and I finally looked it up on google after a year and your video was the first one seen . . Just have to say not all hero’s wear capes
Glad I could help. Now go forth and share the knowledge!
This man has all the answers we seek.
Spread the news! I'm here all week.
Genius. Just genius.
Oh man I feel so damned stupid now. The fact that not a word needed to be said in the video makes it even funnier (or sadder!). Wow.
It’s called a spin disk. It’s to more efficiently remove the nut after the ratchet has done it’s job in loosening it.
Sure helps.
now i know whats the purpose of this thing that been boggling me for quite some time now. hahaha thank you
You are most welcome
This year I turn 50 and it marks two milestones, I discovered the correct spelling of February and I know what the spin disc does.
Glad to be of service!
Thank you so much! I had it for a couple years and never knew what it was.
You're welcome!
Oh wow, thank you.
You're most welcome
My comment was going to be everybody knows what this is for. Then I started reading the comments!?!!
Well, darn me......many thanks for this. Quick and to the point, and proves that at 69 i still don't know everything. ;-)
Omg many thanks i just bought a set didnt have a clue what it was for now i do thanks again
Hey, you're welcome.
😮😮😮😮.thanks man..
No worries big man
Giant 👍👍👍
Thanks, Mo!
I feel so dumb!🤣😂😭 I just looked at it for the first time like "okay little guy. We are FINALLY going to find out wtf you are in here for😤"
Thanks. I was really curious.
Share the knowledge!
Wanted one of those for my ratchet. Couldn't find one. Found one one day included in a super cheap tool set at Harbor Freight. Bought the kit just for the spinner. Most mechanics tools sets don't include this little spinner disk anymore.
True story - only the cheaper sets include these discs. Wonder why.
Love this
Love this comment.
Ty
You're most welcome
Ended up eating it, but i'll know for next time. Thanks.
Perfect. Goes well with a cheese sauce.
Cool!
Años de trabajar con juegos de cubos espiga y hasta ahora me pregunto para que era ese disco azul.
Well, there ya go...
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
That is a complimentary plastic gear, provided by the wrench manufacturer, that the user will need when he achieves the required competency with his wrench set to build a dialysis machine from an old dishwasher.
Just finished building my own dialysis machine yesterday.
Wow. Up to now I am looking for Thumb drive which may be $50😮
The more you know...
Gracias 😁
I was 34 years old when I finally found out what this was used for. SMH 🤦♂️ I use to always throw them away
And now you know...
Throw It My Way goodness me they are extremely useful in certain circumstances
@@RudiOnTheLinedo you know where I can get these from every socket set size from quarter 3/8 and 1/2 in
Not a clue tbh. I've never sought to buy them separately, only ever received them with cheap socket sets (Stanley, Rolson, Hilka, etc)
Where can I get these for all my socket sets? I have looked and looked and looked I have failed failed miserably
I know your pain. Just use a 1/4-to-3/8 adapter with the spin dial in tow... I can make another video if you're confused by what I mean.
This comes in handy when the nut or bolt is still too loose to be able to start the ratcheting action as the fastner just turns both ways and doesn't overcome the small amount of torque required to latch the ratchet.
As do your fingers.
I reserve my fingers for ... other things.
Thank you
No problemo.
very nice video
Thank you!
It's the thing that always breaks that came in all those cheap socket sets, I must've had a half dozen over the years and not one of them has survived.
Sell them on eBay...
So THAT is why your wife calls you the "Spin Disk Executioner"
I've never got this kind of disc witch my socket wrench.... Do you know where we can buy it ?
Not sure. Tried eBay? I've only ever seen these supplied with really cheap socket/ratchet sets (Draper, Stanley, Rolson etc)
@@RudiOnTheLine I've watched on aliexpress, amazon... but nothing....
If you search for thumbwheel or palm ratchet, you can find variations of a spin disc.
Yes, palm and thumb ratchets are awesome for low-torque quick winding of a nut or bolt.
Whaaaaaooooo…. Thank you lol 😂
Thought it was busted 😅
Lol yeah, don't throw it away
I never knew what this think is lol.
You're welcome.
After two years,.... I have the answer
Well, now you know. Take this information and pass it on!
🤣🤣🤣¿really?
Really really.
Still useless to me ... Couldn't seem the significant of using it since same thing happen when you adjust your ratchet either clockwise or counterclockwise
Just lets you finger tighten the fastener before you bother going to town with the whole ratchet. I know sometimes I've got more thread to go before you really need to start swinging back and forth. Honestly its still pretty useless but that's the idea I suppose.
Yeah it's not for everyone, but it helps.
Thanks Cap'n obvious.
The serrations and rotating was the clue for the rest of us.
Usually the package reads "ratcheting" in case a California liberal buys it.
It's a hard life, but somebody's gotta do it... being obvious as shit, that is. Not everybody gets it.
