    Hey SCOTT PADDOCK!! I watched your How To Funk-i-fy your alto sax phrases -- I thought that perhaps you would mention the use of "vibrato" technique in your funk articulation. Don't know if "vibrato" is the correct term in this application...but there is definitely a aspect of vibrato here.

    Scott,
    Great job!
    Question: Where or how to use pentatonics scales? that was the route I took for improvisacion but I see you use blue scales and the result I would say is better. So how the pentatonics fit in all this?
    Thank you

    • @ScottPaddock
      @ScottPaddock  Před 6 lety

      Hey David, they are similar. The blues scale just sounds cooler because of the b5. Funk style is funk style, so you can use all of the same concepts but just apply them to the pentatonic scale, but because you don't have that tritone (b5) it isn't going to sound as gritty. It will sound more scale-y (if that's a word. haha)

    What's the difference between thinking of it as a flat 5? I always think of a blues scale as having a flat 5 not a sharp 4

    • @ScottPaddock
      @ScottPaddock  Před 4 lety +1

      You can do either. If I'm playing a G blues scaled I would think C# just because I like to think C# more than Db. Same with F# and Gb in the key of C. But you can call it either a #4 or b5.

      Ele fala de algumas regras básicas para improvisar no funk. Eu sou pianista, não entendi muito bem todas elas, pois talvez sejam específicas do sax.
      O que achei mais interessante foram as ideias de usar notas sincopadas, repetições constantes de uma ou duas notas e dar saltos entre as oitavas. Apesar de ele não falar sobre isso (ou talvez tenha falado, e passou batido pra mim), é interessante não ligar muito as notas, tocar mais usando staccato.
