I’m a member of the Qantas ground staff at Sydney airport, and when we were in training we were given tours of all the aircrafts Qantas operates out of Sydney, but the only cockpit we got to see was the A380 and it was absolutely marvellous!!!

I’ve only been in an A380 once. It was British Airways LAX-LHR and even though I went economy, I managed an exit row seat so there was good leg room. I loved the A380 and can’t wait to go again. I really enjoy the review videos. My favorite so far is Emirates

My favorite airline? A whole lot of people are going to disagree with me for reasons I know, but it's Delta Airlines. This is purely personal and sentimental. I was born in New Orleans and grew up in a little town near Baton Rouge. Delta started as a crop dusting company in Louisiana. When I was a kid, they were the only airline we had. The first time I got on a plane was also the first time I was traveling by myself. I was 12 years old, flying from Baton Rouge to Miami to visit my aunt and uncle. Bear in mind that this was in the mid 70's when airline passengers dressed up for the occasion. So there was twelve-year-old me. In a suit. By myself. Flying for the first time. The captain, the co-pilot and all the flight attendants made those flights so much fun for me that I'll never forget it. (That's flights -- plural. It's Delta. I had to change planes in Atlanta. Around here we say that, when you die, it doesn't matter whether you're going to Heaven or Hell. You still have to go through Atlanta.) On the way back, we took off from Miami to Atlanta -- but Atlanta got shut down because of bad weather and we got diverted to Tampa. So I spent like four solid hours getting a tour of all the behind the scenes stuff at the airport in Tampa before they decided to fly me back to Miami until the weather in Atlanta cleared up. Oddly, that was the most incredible part of the whole trip. Later, when I got into Harvard, I needed a summer job and applied to be a baggage handler for Delta in Baton Rouge. I didn't take that job because something better came along. Still. That first time flying was with Delta, and it meant a lot, and their folks made it fun for me when it could have been scary, so if I run into the occasional customer service problem with Delta (and I do), I just treat that as them tapping into a well of goodwill they earned with me when I was a kid. (I'm 57 going on 58 now.)
Your experience may be different, that's fine, that's your experience with Delta, and I totally understand. I'm just speaking about me, and I'm biased. Which I fully admit.

I've flown on the Qantas A380 First Class twice and found it to be a very good experience. There are always going to be better examples from time to time and Qantas will probably upgrade at some point and turn the tide. This happens in the airline industry all the time. Apart from a few cosmetic differences the overall experience between Qantas and Emirates was much the same; both very good. I wouldn't 'avoid Qantas like the plague'. It has been in the top ten in the ratings for many years for good reason.

I was in ‘coach’ and they gave me a free full row of empty seat to make a bed out of. Normally, they are supposed to charge $ for that service, I believe. But they knew I had had a very long travel day (Toronto to Dallas-7 hour layover, then Dallas to Sydney) so they were very, very kind.

I flew this same flight first class using AA miles 10 days before your flight and have to say I wholeheartedly agree, the staff was very pleasant and attentive as well as the Emirates lounge amenities were insanely good. also the first class lounge for emirates in London was great on the flight to Dubai but since Qantas is a one world airline I hopped between the AA/BA/EK lounges.

9:32 I really like Emirates. But maybe I want to try Qantas. The reason why Qantas might be so luxurious is because it takes us to some of the LONGEST routes that are out there! So that is why Qantas has to be so luxurious!

  • @ahoymark
    @ahoymark Před 6 lety +5

To call it a suite is also a misnomer. It's more of a shell.
Qantas staff are unrefined: The lady who escorted you to your seat simply left your boarding pass there and walked off. That is not 'first class'.

The reason Qantas have this record is because most accidents occur on start and landing the average flight is 2 hours the average Qantas flight is 8 hours. That means all the other airlines have 4 times more starts and landings.

      I agree MrLockcaps
it's really only the international flights that last 8 hours
the domestic flights are shorter and there are so many more of them than international so that fact is actually a piece of shit from someone who just doesn't want to admit that Qantas is the safest

I flew from Melbourne to Manila economy in 1987. It was only an 8 hour flight. After 5 hours I'd have given anything to be able to lie down in a bed and go to sleep. It was monotonous and tiring just sitting there all that time. However I did take my own books with me and read most of the time. At Melbourne airport I had a 6 hour wait for that flight and I wasn't allowed to leave the airport, having flown in from NZ so I spent most of that time on a comfy sofa reading, napping, and taking a tour of the airport and shops and cafes. So yeah, a bed on the plane to stretch out would have been great.

Manila airport was a shock. Lines of guards armed with automatic weapons all the way from the plane to customs and immigration and beyond. The friends who came to collect me weren't allowed inside the airport but were waiting behind a barrier outside the doors and I almost got crushed in the crowds squeezing through those doors.

Thank-you for the video, you just saved me thousands of dollars.
    1) SAFETY - unlike many airlines, Australian and New Zealand commercial pilots spend an enormous amount of time and money gaining flying experience in multiple types of aircraft. This is done via the military or regional airlines. They need this experience just to get the opportunity to get an entry level job with the major carriers. Airmanship and learning how to really fly the plane without all the modern equipment is a strong focus. Many of the fast growing airlines have pilots with hardly any experience before moving to commercial airliners.
    2) QANTAS FIRST CLASS - Well this was VERY DISAPPOINTING. The standard seems MUCH HIGHER with many other airlines. Your meal looked like a school project. The service staff looked like they tolerated you. Qantas First Class, lets just call it Premium Business instead. Where has the Krug or Dom Perignon gone, where is the wonderful Australian lobsters etc. This flight costs around $7,500 AUD.
