I mean, there's plenty of people who love her, she's one of the most beloved characters, but then again, she gets a lot of hate from fans too... The thing I find a little unfair for her is that her being the one that hates being alone the most, is actually the one who was left aside, since we all know how the pairings work by now, even if people want it to be other way. Poor her... I mean, she's the one who always cared about every magical girl in the way and still, the one that everyone ''betrays''. Yes, she might judge quickly (like with Homura), but she really, really tries her best at everything, and swore herself to not lose her head. She really is a Magical Girl of Justice. She only needs someone by her side. Different Story actually made me care a lot about her, while kind of made me hate Kyoko a little bit... She completely betrayed Mami and without her, without Mami, Kyoko wouldn't even stand a chance against anything. Still, Kyoko IS my favorite character, I simply love her for being the way she truly is, but that's the main reason why I sort of disliked Different Story, since it changed a little bit of my perspective. Nevertheless, thanks to that manga, Mami's my third favorite Magical Girl along with Sayaka :P
The show would be overwhelmingly dark as having suicide in a show which has a character choosing suicide was a natural choice. It would give this anime a more mature taste.

I don't think it's so much that she freaked out, she was still able to think clearly enough to kill Kyoko first (Who would be the most dangerous due to her speed) while ensnaring Homura to keep her from using her time stopping abilities. She was thinking rationally, she just figured death was a better alternative to turning into a witch.
But Homura could've turned back time, something that would've saved everyone. But Mami still wanted to kill her. I'm pretty sure Homura told them about her ability to rewind time since Madoka knew about it, so yeah... You're right, though.

Homura in anime/manga version give no shit about the safety of Kyoko, Mami or others, she just needed their help for battle against Walpurga or Walrusnight or whatever.

Mami Tomoe will often put up a facade as if she's perfect, and always is thinking of what's best for others, when in reality she's impulsive, selfish, and irresponsible. (She commits suicide simply because she couldn't bear her feelings of guilt.)(And in the spur of the moment she decides to commit suicide, which was selfish, and impulsive. ) I guess the point that I'm really trying to convey here, is that no one in PMMM is perfect and they all have their flaws, and the reason why I'm pointing out Mami's flaws is because she gets a lot of respect throughout the fandom, and is treated like a saint when in reality she's human. She always thinks is to die with her parents after she being revived by making her wish when she realizes it that she let her parents died in a car accident, and I get it why she kills her friends because she's accidently or being responsible brought her friends become magical girls by showing them what is like and how dangerous parts to become magical girl although she never forced them because it's their decisions, she often try to be a perfect role model to everyone else, she had a lot of overwhelmed up her emotions, being extreme guilty from not saving her parents, being very isolated, she also stress being a magical girl that's why she ended up being alone forever (maybe she also realize that she fought the witches this whole time is really a fellow magical girl imo) well obviously she's really deeply flawed by the reality that's why she tells Madoka to find a better role model in the main timeline, back to timeline 3 is that after she knew the dark truths about magical girl from Homura before Sayaka become a witch, and after they defeat Sayaka's Witch in a rash decision/worst situation she snapped and decide to kill her friends and herself to prevented from it, it's just mercy-killing no matter how many they collect grief seeds there's no way can escaped from the horrible fate so Mami took her own hands, she knew the dark truths about magical girls that happens to Sayaka had already became a witch after that she didn’t want her and they became the exact same, so she killing her friends and herself so that the world will be a better place by not turning them and her into a witches because she thinks this is the best way. (even tho she didn't willing want to kill them because she such a caring person and after they knew the dark truths it's like there is no way out), so yeah Mami didn't do wrong/right.
