  • The leaf blade measuring 6-8 mm with one root stick attached to the bottom is known as Lemna. Although it often grows in puddles of waste water, this plant turns out to have a fairly high protein content and can be used as an alternative to feed for fish, poultry, livestock, and mammals.
Lemna in Indonesia is a type of Lemna perpusilla Torr, known locally as the catfish eye. This plant is cosmopolitan or can grow anywhere in the tropics, especially in stagnant waters at low to moderate altitudes.
Lemna's fast growth rate makes it very easy to grow. Its growth reaches 40 percent per day, its life span is about 10 days and is able to produce up to 20 tillers attached to its mother, added Tjandra. The level of biomass productivity is also quite high, namely 10 tons of dry weight per hectare per year, continued Tjandra. According to him, this plant biomass can be dried and stored for a relatively long time.
