  • "Born To Be With You" was recorded on April 18, 1968 and released in September 1968.
Here is what Sonny James said about "Born To Be With You":
"The song “Born To Be With You” was written by a gentleman out in Los Angeles. He lives there today and his name is Don Robertson and he's written many hits, “A Fool Such As I”, Hank Snow's big record, “I Love You More and More Every Day” which was a hit for me. “The Happy Whistler” which he produced that and a lot of songs that I just can't think of right now. When I first done it I was talking to he and his wife on the phone and they just love the arrangement that we put to “Born To Be With You”."

Sonny James, "the Southern Gentleman" was one of the greatest country artist of all time. He had 24 #1 hits in a row. Whether a cover or an original, Sonny was in a class by himself. I answered the phone at 2:30 in the morning; while I was working at KNIX in Tempe, and the voice on the other end of the line was Sonny James. Had a wonderful conversation with the "Southern Gentleman." It was a thrill for me, for it was my first full time job in radio at the number one station in Phoenix. I will always remember that call for as long as I live. RIP Sonny!

Sonny did some of the best covers of any artist in any genre, especially soul & R&B songs.

With his signature, enduting voice and great playing skill on accoustic guitar, one can see how he ranked so high for so long.
