Hoe zou het klinken als u een wandeling maakte door het Cordoba van de 12de eeuw?
Met Cantigas reist u muzikaal terug in de tijd naar deze metropool uit de vroege middeleeuwen. U hoort muziek die daar destijds te horen kan zijn geweest: een selectie Marialiederen uit de Cantigas de Santa Maria en overgeleverde Arabo-Andalusische werken die tot op de dag van vandaag in de Maghreb worden gezongen en gespeeld.
De Cantigas zijn verzameld in opdracht van koning Alfonso X, ook wel bekend als ‘de koning van de drie religies’, in een tijd waarin christenen, joden en islamieten vreedzaam samenleefden. Hun wederzijdse invloeden hoort u onder meer terug in de ritmische structuren van de muziek. Om deze muzikale reis door de tijd zo authentiek mogelijk te maken, bespeelt het Amsterdams Andalusisch Orkest instrumenten die in de twaalfde eeuw werden gebruikt.
Van 15 t/m 24 maart 2023 presenteren de muzikale vrienden uit Amsterdam dit nieuwste programma, waarin zij een reis maken naar de metropool uit de vroege Middeleeuwen.

What if you were to take a stroll through 12th-century Cordoba?
In Cantigas, you will musically travel back in time to this metropolis of the early Middle Ages. You get to hear music that could have been heard there at the times: a selection of Marian songs from the Cantigas de Santa Maria and passed down Arabo-Andalusian works that are still sung and played in the Maghreb today.
The Cantigas were collected at the behest of King Alfonso X, also known as 'the king of the three religions', at a time when Christians, Jews and Muslims lived together peacefully. You can hear their mutual influences, among other things, in the rhythmic structures of the music. To make this musical journey through time as authentic as possible, the Amsterdam Andalusian Orchestra will be playing instruments used in the twelfth century.
