    F14 pilot here...great video, I just wanted to add my 2 cents... I use the quest 3 and when I pull up the jester menu it allows me to select options by moving my head. Very convenient. Get a vr. Bind all of your jester commands to your hotas(especially the jester pull up button as its easier to push a button on your hotas then fumbling around trying to find the A button your keyboard while in a fight). I do this by assigning each command I need like : HSD toggle, Lock nearest enemy target, TID range, Toggle between TWS and RWS, Autopilot & Heading(lock) Toggle etc - I just use the keyboard to add modifiers like left ALT + hotas button etc. It makes controlling jester a hell of lot easier.

    videos like these are a fantastic resource for those like me who are learning. there are a hundred cold start tutorials and simple dogfight videos for the tomcat but this is the first where I've learned how to be much more combat efficient with the tools this plane has. hope you continue this series!

    I'm fond of a tactic I've found with the AIM-7 when against two targets, the first missile I fire is purely to get one of them to break, and once I see they do, I give it a count of about 5-10 seconds to make sure they're pretty much abeam of me, and are occupied with that missile, which is never going to hit them, I then break lock and quickly lock up the other bandit, and fire on them for a kill shot, and as soon as they're dead I quickly go back after the other one with a third AIM-7 to kill them.
    It "wastes" one missile that I have no intention of getting a kill with, because I only ever hold the lock long enough to keep them busy, but not long enough to let the other bandit close enough to be getting a shot off before they have a missile heading to them.
    But so far, this tactic has worked every time against the AI armed with similar weapons.

    This is a really great video! One thing I would like is if you could explain which Jester commands you select because you go through the options so fast its hard to know what you actually told Jester to do. But excellent video, really helped me a lot!

    You can change the range after fire if you have the shortcut assigned.

    Nice video. How do you plan which altitude to descend to while cranking after shooting long range Phoenix?
    Besides, my Jester loses lock early on while cranking, differently from your Jester. Any tips?

    • @catfunt5583
      @catfunt5583 Před 5 dny

      TWS AUTO? If the enemy starts to crank (turn left or right 90 degrees to you, they will fall into the Doppler filter and you will loose track
      If you have a Pulse Doppler Single Target Track (STT) the AI will tend to immediately defend, and unless you switch to a Pulse STT you’ll lose them in the Doppler filter

    Would having the ACM cover up all the time with the master arm switch negatively affect your shots?

    • @shinysdcs1212
      @shinysdcs1212 Před 9 měsíci +2

      If your shooting further than 15mi, yes. I put the ACM cover up when within 12 miles, so it will be active off the rail for those close shots.

    Do you think that the Mig-21 AI flight model is accurate? It seems to significantly overperform in every way.

    • @shinysdcs1212
      @shinysdcs1212 Před 6 měsíci

      I'm not an expert on the Mig21, so I couldn't really say. But..yeah, I hate merging wirh mig21s. They always seem way more slippery than they should be.

      DCS AI is very poor, to the point they artificially buff the hell out of the AI planes so they actually have a chance. Very frustrating

    • @algroyp3r
      @algroyp3r Před 5 dny

      @@catfunt5583 It's not every AI plane, it is very model specific. Some of them have OK flight models. I don't think they are buffing the Mig to make up for poor AI, I think it is using a simplified flight model that is quite wrong.

    How do you do this thing with the zoom in zoom out ?

    • @shinysdcs1212
      @shinysdcs1212 Před 10 měsíci +1

      I use a "custom snapview". Save a custom snapview zoomed in on your TID/HSI and your VDI/TCS/Lantirn screens. Then bind that snapview to your hotas, on my TM warthog stick I bound it to the paddle switch. It is very useful, you can see your TID quickly and close up whenever you need it.

    When facing Ai I can dodge 70-80% of missiles. Aim120c's
    PvP I get hit by 99% of them.
    Flying the notch, chaff doesn't make much difference. Firing phoenix missiles active right off the rail doesn't seem to bother ppl either.
    The only thing that helps is dive to the trees and run. Obviously can't play the game always on the run. Fuel burns quickly. The aim54c is currently a terribly ineffective model of the real missile.

    • @shinysdcs1212
      @shinysdcs1212 Před 2 měsíci

      I have to disagree with you there, I find the Aim-54C quite effective. Aim-120s are not difficult to dodge, just defend early and take them to the ground.
