This has been my favorite song for literally 15 years. I was in 8th grade and heard it for the first time from my high-school select choir, it changed my life. I joined the choir myself and learned about music specifically because of this song, thank you so much
@Sheila Lomax it's just called sleep, Eric tried making it to the workd of the Robert frost poem Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening, but there was a problem getting the rights to the words, so he contacted a friend who is also a poet and had him write entirely new lyrics to the song, it's beautiful
I have the same exact experience with this song only i was in middle school hating how I sang in the 5 years i was in chorus this song gave me the voice to aspire 🥰
What a blessed moment..whenever I see the name Eric Whitacre..and ANY performance via orchestra or Voice! an unforgettable legacy of stunning Beauty and Sound...This dear Eric, is the stuff of Angels..both in you..and in the BEST that you bring out of anyone who plays what you have written. Truly from the Soul of God/Goddess, and All That IS. Immense Appreciation, and Gratitude for this Inspiration NOW, at a time most needed for healing and transformation. To you Eric, your family, and this ORchestra.. Melekalikimaka , Malama Pono from the Heart of Hawaii. (Merry Christmas and Highest Blessings)💚❤💜💙
That was absolutely stunning... WHAT a sound! I would love to 1. hear this in a cathedral. 2. SING alongside this arrangement. 3. create a movement piece inspired by this orchestration WOW!
I love the original, but this arrangement should be on spotify right next to his. Bravo to you and youre verry talented Students. The arrangment is verry well done.
i sang this with my university's choir recently and i've always wondered if there was a version for strings, and this video scratched the right itch for me. thank you for composing such a beautiful piece!!
This version feels like something Martin O'Donnell and Michael Salvatori would have written for Halo. There's facets of Halo 3, as well as Halo: Reach in here. The dissonance is absolutely something they utilized in Reach.
Sleep is amazing - my second favorite piece by Eric! But October is my absolute favorite. However, I am biased because I got to perform it and had the awesome euphonium solo.... 🙂
Also, @Eric Whitacre, you'll like this story. One of my students (I teach math) also played euphonium and had the solo on October. One day, he was in my office and we were rocking out to October, singing and conducting it while listening to a recording and following along in the score. 🙂
Hello Eric, Just want to say that I am a big fan of your music and have enjoyed the choral version of this piece ever since I first heard the sublime Molto Cantible version on CZcams in 2009. This new Sleep with strings is equally as eloquent! Bravo to you and Dr. Holbrook and the orchestra!
This is a beautiful arrangement! I hope to conduct that piece someday very soon when I grow up. Keep up the great work Eric! You are my favorite contemporary music composer of all time!
How does one go about properly notating for string orchestra if there are too many voices and it won't fit on the standard Violin I, Violin II, Viola, Cello, Basses notation? I'm trying to learn things on my own. Any books or links I could read? Thank you. Btw, this is an amazing arrangement!
In the case, you’d have to split the part into two parts (called divisi). For example, half the cellos would play one part and half the cellos would play a different part.
I love this piece, but this performance seems static to me somehow. Great effort, but conductor, please consider adding some movement to breathe life into this masterpiece.
Choir and orchestra together would be phenomenal. Even the choir singing on "Mm".
Love your work. Ever since 2013

This is my first time hearing this. It's beautiful! Is the name Sleep for Strings? Would love to hear the vocal version. 😊

Without lyrics my mind switches between Sleep and the Frost poem!
I went to an philharmonia recently and this was one of the compositions played. It was a very interesting arrangement to listen to.
A beautiful work!
I've never in my life heard the cadence at 0:56 and not had chills run down my body. Great performance

I love the virtual choir version of Sleep. This particular arrangement for strings is beautiful! It makes my spirit soar!
Absolutely love this! Have played it over several times! 🥰
Absolutely wonderful. The beauty of your work knows no bounds
the strings version is as emotional as the vocal version ❤❤
Recall the time when Eric came to Hong Kong a few years ago… ❤❤
Oh myyyy!
I’m gonna need a score for this.
beautiful as always 🥰 this will always be one of my favorite pieces i've ever had the privilege to sing and enjoy!
Thank you for arranging this! As an old “band guy” I’ve been longing to do this with my string orchestra ❤
They killed it 👏 love this tune

Instruments will NEVER come to the quality and depth to that of the human voice, that being said Mr. Whitacre bravo to you sir.

Could you tell me what key this is written for String Orchestra?
