    Conductor Plate Repair on Mercedes 722.6 Transmission
    The Mercedes 722.6 transmission or 5GTronic is one of the most popular Mercedes transmissions in operation used from 1996-2015. This transmission was used across various models from the C-Class up to the SLR McLaren supercar. In addition, it was also installed in various Porsche 996 models, supercharged Jaguars, and various Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge applications. This is an electronically controlled transmission and most common failures are electronic on these models.

    You did a very good job. Checking the fluid can be a tricky thing on 722.6. Reading the dip stick does not always give you a clear answer. A couple of tips. 1) You can raise the hood higher into the service position by pressing the tabs on the hinges. 2) The old fluid draining out was extremely dirty. Recommend to do another drain and refill very soon. I used up 3 of those large Pentosin ATF bottles to get the fluid back to the clear cherry red color. Now the shifts are butter smooth.

    • @50sKid
      @50sKid  Před 3 lety +2

      Apparently there is a drain plug for the torque converter so you don't even have to do so many flush and fills to get back to cherry red. Darn nice of Mercedes!

    I've done this job a couple of times. Two things. When you removed the big round connector it was covered in oil inside. On some cars it has happened that the oil will wick up the cable into the engine compartment where the transmission control computer lives. The fluid will destroy the computer board. Easy to check. Second, I have stripped the nut that holds the round connector to the conductor plate with a 1/4" ratchet that was only 4" long and I didn't torque it very hard. I cringed when you used the battery tool, even by hand. The torque spec is really small. It's a threaded brass insert molded into plastic and the fix is a new conductor plate. Otherwise, nice video. Be ready to take a bath in atf.

      I don't think it's a bad idea in cold climates -- you just have to drill a little hole through the outside shield on the cold climate version of the oil separator in order to get the vacuum hose inside and onto the port.

      My uk e46 m54 doesn't come with the insulated ccv kit as standard, so will be replacing the ccv with the standard kit. My engine is really consuming oil, so im going to replace the ccv and other potential vacuum leak parts first. If theres no improvement or only a little improvement then i will try the o2 pilot mod. I wasn't sure if the o2 pilod mod was a good idea if theres a chance of freezing temperatures during the winter months. Do you know of anything else i could try to help with the oil consumption?
      Thanks 👍

      I'm just in the middle of replacing the CCV while im off work. I've found the lower intake boot had an open crack in it, the idle control valve was sticking and the CCV had a bit of mayo inside the unit and the hose to the dipstick looked to be a bit clogged up. Im going to put it back together and see if theres any improvement, if not going to try the o2 pilot mod.

      @@50sKid hey 50s, hope your well.
      I've just carried out the 02 pilot mod and ccv change a couple of days ago. My car stopped smoking almost immediately. But a couple of days later, i started the car and still no smoke, got about a 1/2 mile up the road and its started smoking worse than ever.
      Have you any ideas what could have gone wrong, or what i should check first. I have stopped using the car at the moment, so your help would be greatly appreciated 🙏🙏
