I remember the paper transfers were poked with hole punchers and cost only 35 cent to keep+1.25, I need to catch only 2 buses and costing 3.50 for 1 time pay.
last time I took the Green Line I was unable to load money I think they need to have someone helping seniors. It was very frustrating for me as a disabled senior. Thank You
Sorry to hear that. Yes. These machines are not as user friendly to our seniors. I'll send a note to metro's customer service. But with the high $ for employee here in CA, I don't know if they will hire someone just to assist people with purchase :( There are other places that you can load your tap card. You have to taptogo website
Thank you for the information, I have been struggling with the process , but what I don't understand is why I have an orange card and it's not the blue one that I need to ride the foothill transit, the blue card is on my phone but I want have the plastic one.
This is very easy and convenient...but I always wondered if a lot of people just go in without paying... because there is no gates at some of the tap scanner entrances and how would security know if you paid if you don't have a receipt?
I believe that many people are unworthy of the honest system. So you know them because they panic when they see the sheriff's dept and they move to the next car. Instead of paying $13... Now they have to pay $300
Hi! wanted to ask if which is better: pay for the $25/week or do the stored value and just reload? Will be in Los Angeles for a week :) kinda confused on how the public transit system works in LA. :/
Nemar Gilmore I didn't see your comment. sorry. it depends on your usage. if you will use the metro extensively, then a week pass is better. I commute everyday, but often my hubby takes me to work then take the bus home. on my case, its cheaper for me to just load instead of a week pass.
These cards are becoming very popular throughout NA mainly because, instead of buying a monthly pass and getting unlimited rides (e.g. paying $30 per month and getting $300 worth of rides), each user pays for each ride he gets.
The pass is good if you use the public transportation as your only transport. But if you sometimes use your car, uber, lyft... it is more economical to just load money into the Tap card. Also, in LA, if you pay by cash... it will cost you $1.75 each bus/light rail. If you have 3 transfers and paying by cash, that's $1.75 each. If you use TAP, that $1.75 WILL LAST FOR 2 HOURS, so there's a huge possibility to do all 3 transfers with just a $1.75
Hopefully my question is answered. But how do i transfer stations i read that if you go one-way for a 2hour limit its $1.75. But how does the system know that im going one way with bus/metro and how do i do it? Thanks
When you tap it will show in the lcd screen if it is an initial tap or a transfer. The only time it will deduct is when you use from metro to city buses or from metro to metro rapid
metro bus and metro subway and most of LA County bus agencies. BTW, you can now load up using the website. For the list of bus agencies, you can click here www.taptogo.net/TAPAgencies
If I go on the bus they don't have the machines on the busses for the tap card so u don't have to have to pay or have money loaded on your tap card right ?
Swift Loyalty you can just put $1.75 on the bus, however, having a tap card will allow you to transfer to another Metro bus/rail for two hours. so its beneficial to tap
Swift Loyalty example, I'm coming from civic center LA and needed to go to sun valley. if I have a tap card, I can just tap on the 94 (1.75 will be deducted from my card). then when i get off at Burbank to ride a 152 bus, I'll just tap again and the machine will just say TRANSFER. that trip just cost me $1.75 if I don't use a tap card, I'll end up paying $1.75 for bus 94 and another $1.75 for bus 152. btw. you can register your card and load it with a credit/debit
Edith Rosas technically yes. what I notice tho is that if you ride the subway then get off at 7th, then returned back to 7th, they will Deduct 1.75 again from your tap card
2 ways: 1. from the same machine, you can buy a tap card for $1 then you can load the card with an amount or a pass. 2. from the metro bus itself. so you tell the driver that you want to buy a tap card. downside of this is that the driver can only sell you a day pass. I think it is $7 now for a day pass plus the $1 for the tap card
People actually making vdeo on TAP card. We need instruction video on everything. TAP card is good. The problem is LA public transportation does not go anywher. For me, I usually loaded online. This requires credit card. If you don't have credit card, you cannot useit. The TAP card machines are in El Monte Station, Union station n other rail stations. If you cannot reach those stations, you can purchase on the bus. Please listen carefully. Tell the bus drivers what you want. Until the bus drivers adk u o pay, then you pay. I know 5 paaengers behind will curse u. I witnessed a person wanted to reload $20 . He inserted $20 first thing then explain. The drive punch the ride n claimed he cannot reverse. This is expensive one time trip ride. I dont know why can't be reverse, but the person make little income, $20 is a lo. Actually, tor most of us $20 is a lot
There are also some stores or vendors that can reload your tap for you just like the TAP card machines. But yeah, reloading it online is the most convenient. www.taptogo.net/TAPReload
I never use a tap card. I just sneak on the train and bus without anything happening. If they give you a ticket just don't go to court. The system is back logged
Dude. You're better than that. Getting something without paying... That's a criminal mindset and a ghetto mindset. Just imagine if YOU are the owner of that bus and people don't pay? You are better than that. You can be the one that gives. That pays. That can give a generous tip. Great people owes nobody.
Thank you so much! I'm taking a train for hr first time in a long time today and forgot how to do it. I appreciate it :D
thank you from Russia for your help in my preparation to the trip :)
Enjoy your trip.

THANKS!IT HELPS :)
Thanks for tell me about buying tickets
Thank you! It helped a lot!
glad it did
this is super helpful, last time i tried to do it right before a train came and ended up paying for another card lol
CupofKona I have 2 cards myself.... just in case of emergency
+jonimaelara. i do too
I just did the same thing yesterday
😅👍.

By the way, I think Access provides either a free Tap card or a discounted one if you qualify. Access is not just a door to door pick up.
Good video, thank you so much...Kind regards from Denmark.
Thank you
Thank you soo much 👍
Helpful! Thank you.
MARTA’s (Atlanta) Breeze Card and CTA’s (Chicago) Ventra Card work the same way, and they all use the same kind of vending machines.
Thank you for the information, I have been struggling with the process , but what I don't understand is why I have an orange card and it's not the blue one that I need to ride the foothill transit, the blue card is on my phone but I want have the plastic one.
i know that there are times Tap cards have different designs depending on what's the occasion.
This is very easy and convenient...but I always wondered if a lot of people just go in without paying... because there is no gates at some of the tap scanner entrances and how would security know if you paid if you don't have a receipt?

hey, I am just wondering, is there any tap card machine like the one you are using at the lax airport?
no there isnt
They need one. Hopefully they'll have one once they are done building the walkway.
How to check how much is still on the TAB?
Metro Tap card should use Apple Pay. Like Suica in Japan!
Usa needs to adapt to change... Seriously
Not everyone has Apple pay or wants it
Danielle Porter it’ll just be another option to pay.
hi...I already have a tap card...do you know if I can use it also for buses like L.A metro?
MAOG76 O as long as you bought the tap card for LA (or foothill transit), you can use it. where did you buy your tap card
Thanks, I just return from my trip to L.A and use my tap card on metro and buses...worked great even in the valley....thanks for sharing
This card can be use for buses metro subway and all public transportation in LA?
metro bus and metro subway and most of LA County bus agencies. BTW, you can now load up using the website. For the list of bus agencies, you can click here www.taptogo.net/TAPAgencies
Yo NY metro cards are sooo expensive compared to these like $1.75 for a bus or train ride wow lol.
We are not as extensive as NY. Sometimes we have to wait an hour for the next bus
If I go on the bus they don't have the machines on the busses for the tap card so u don't have to have to pay or have money loaded on your tap card right ?

so as long as its in a 2 hour time frame you can transfer however many times possible??
Edith Rosas technically yes. what I notice tho is that if you ride the subway then get off at 7th, then returned back to 7th, they will Deduct 1.75 again from your tap card
Can I use the tap card to take a bus from Patsaouras Bus Plaza? its 4 mins away from union station..
The patsauouras bus plaza is within union station i think... Just in a different wing. Patsaouras is where the Megabus and flyaway waits.
You can use the tap there...
how do i get a tap card?
2 ways:
1. from the same machine, you can buy a tap card for $1 then you can load the card with an amount or a pass.
2. from the metro bus itself. so you tell the driver that you want to buy a tap card. downside of this is that the driver can only sell you a day pass. I think it is $7 now for a day pass plus the $1 for the tap card
How much is the year pass?
I don't know. I've only done monthly
it's not called a ticket it's called a TAP card
that's right.
People actually making vdeo on TAP card.

Esse cartão também serve para o dash?
no habla espanol :( but yes. You can use this for DASH/LADot as long as you have loaded money to it (again, not buying a day pass, but LOADED money)
jonimaelara Portuguese* not Spanish
hello good morning where is located tap card load
Usually, you can reload on train stations, main bus stations, stores where they do reload, or even online.
I never use a tap card. I just sneak on the train and bus without anything happening. If they give you a ticket just don't go to court. The system is back logged

Loading money on the card is only step 1. This video is almost useless for people who haven't used Tap before.
Of course!!
