JIGGING THE OUTER REEF - With PELAGIC PURSUIT

  • Well, Its been a long time coming and I've been asked quite a few times now to colab, and I finally got a chance to fish with Matt Scholz aka ‪@PelagicPursuit89‬ . Grab yourself a beer to kick back cos this ones a long one!!
    Matty and I have been good mates for many years now and have fished in Australia, CXI and PNG together, since he moved to central QLD we have missed each other many times so it was awesome for it to finally come together with another bloody legend of a bloke, Andrew McKinstray, to fish and shoot photos for the new TIDE Apparel summer range.
    With an amazing weather window we decided to make the most of the 3 days and packed the swags into Matt's Contender for a few nights on the outer Barrier Reef. We spent the majority of our time jumping from spot to spot jigging and casting at isolated reefs for a range of species. Day 2 was mind blowing with big ocean swells and a total glass out on the shelf, the jigging was amazing but the sharks made it difficult to land any of the bigger fish, so we headed back in closer and found a pressure edge with bait and plenty of fish and ended the day with a crazy topwater session on an epic patch of dogtooth tuna, Wahoo, Spanish mackerel and a lot of other cool stuff. On the last day of the trip we jigged our way back in and were treated to some spectacular sights with 2 very playful whales interrupting our drift to put on a show, this shut the fish down so we made our way back in and stopped for a break and fed the resident GTs and Maori Wrasse at Manta Ray Bay.

    Man I can’t wait to get myself a O/H jigging set up for Kingies, Sambos and Dhufish. Gotta beat my dads absolute weapon of a record of a 23kg Dhuie. Down where I am we don’t get the beautiful specimens like coral trout but the trade off is we don’t have to worry about getting sharked. This is the kind of content I could rewatch at any given time and is actually the inspiration for my egg beater jigger and wanting to use jigs all together. Keep up with these epic videos absolutely love it.

      Thanks mate!! Do what you gotta do to have fun til you can afford it but overhead is so bloody good for jigging, it’s like a winch on the big stuff (sometimes) 😂

    Hey guys! I’m from the U.S. and I love your videos, but I always find myself wanting to know the species of fish you catch and a lot of the times you don’t identify them. Is there any way you can start trying to do that more for us dummies.

    • @Micksgonefishing
      @Micksgonefishing  Před 2 lety +2

      Yeah man, I’ve been asked this before and I try to remember to talk about the fish more but there’s usually a bit going on and I forget so I’ll keep this in mind in future!
      Cheers 🍻

    Hey mate .. im moving upto cardwell at the end of this year from the goldy .. most of my style these days is slow ... its hard to find much info up around that area on jigging .. does it fire up that way with that style? I see alot of you guys are heading super wide down south a bit but was wondering what sort of distances are involved up that area ? Same scenario? Thanks mate 👍🏻

    • @Micksgonefishing
      @Micksgonefishing  Před 2 lety

      You’ll kill it up there, the reef is a lot closer also which is both good and bad… it does get a lot of pressure as do most places. It’ll be all up to finding your own little spots and techniques
