As a man from a unionist background, Mary Lou referred to us as her ‘brothers and sisters’. That’s more respect than Arlene Foster has ever shown anyone. It’s time those of us from a unionist back ground use this opportunity offered by Mary to become a voice in republicanism. It’s our ireland too, our future. The Unionists have abandoned us all and the status quo is unsustainable.

Never ever liked Sinn Féin, but Mary Lou wiped the floor with the pro lifers during the referendum, she took vile abuse and excoriation and remained zen like. A tough capable woman. I always preferred evolution to "revolution", Home rule was Rome rule and it was a horrible theocracy. But it's gone! It's over! The crowds will show up for Pope Francis who's making an effort. But, individual conscience is king now. Amazing. I have no irredentist designs on the North whatsoever. If it evolves well and good but if it doesn't that's fine too. What do the people in the North really want? The UK or the EU? We're going to find out. Interesting times ahead.

Stafford Stafford my father’s family are as orange as william himself. My mother’s side are traditionally good Irish Catholics and nobody cares in the slightest. We live in the south and I can’t think of any time that my catholic/Protestant heritage ever came up...hopefully that’s the way it goes in the north soon. It needs to.

The reality is - the unionist (pro British Irish) population on this island have played a major part in building successful businesses across the country. I've sat and sung 'The Sash' in the company of a staunch Donegal Orange man. He, and his wife, then sang 'The Foggy Dew'.... we can make it work folks.

She talks sense, there’s just no reason for England to persist in Ireland. Brexit is definitely an opportunity. Scottish referendum coming up, how can Ireland be denied the same. And on a lighter note, I personally think she’s kinda hot

no one has asked Mary Lou MacDonald the right questions, why didn't they ask: why a few years the ago when RTE made an opinion poll in favour or against a united Ireland, the majority of the Irish public opinion in the Republic of Ireland voted against a united Ireland, and why so many in the Republic consider the "Nordies" as "different accent, different people" and even trouble-makers, and how is it Sinn Fein in spite of being the oldest party in Ireland, the political arm of the IRA, the resistance that gave the Irish people a country of their own in 1923, it has never been in power in Dublin. Is it because the Irish know something we don't know? That they actually are a bunch of trouble-makers. I'm sure if there was a referendum tomorrow in the Republic of Ireland for an IREXIT, the majority would vote to get out of the EU and the EURO.

Brexit might finally be the silver bullet for the status quo in Ireland and inadvertently lead to a united island. One can hope. Its absurd to consider that Germany has been unified, that Korea might one day unify and countless others down through history have resolved their historic differences but Ireland remains divided. Many reasons for it, but none good enough to remain divided as such.

She's disingenuous, IRA/Sinn Fein have been inextricably linked. Sinn Fein was led for the last 30 years by people that served as the "Chief of Staff" of the IRA. Mary Lou has got off to a bad start, attending events celebrating terrorists guilty of atrocities. Instead of declaring a break with the past she panders to sectarianism of the worst elements in her party.

audience2 and your British government backed and funded loyalist terrorist's and ran Brit death squads that murdered innocent Catholics, it has emerged that this went all the way to the evil whore Thatcher. Nobody has clean hands. And it was Thatcher that started calling the IRA terrorist's because the world was watching the Brits murder indiscriminately and they had to demonize the Irish to make themselves look legitimate. But the Brits terrorising Irish indigenous peoples in Ireland always means Britain is the terrorist's. Like they did in India.
