When I was homeschooled there was a planned field trip every month or every other month. It was an informal group and anyone in the area that was homeschooled could go. But I've never met a homeschooler with a speech impediment like that- Funny though! I agree-all types of education has its ups and downs. The student’s personality and environment greatly impact the education experience. We homeschooled our three children and they went to public school for two years in high school. We treated the world as a classroom, traveled a lot and they were quite busy with activities. All three said they didn’t fully appreciate homeschooling until they attended public school and college. Education outside the home helped them gain a broader perspective. They are choosing to homeschool their own children and thank us for homeschooling them.

When I got older I also did a lot of volunteering, sometimes as much as 6 days a week! There definitely wasn’t any shortage of friends or activities! And for those wondering, I did go to college. First community college where I graduated with honors, and then a university… An AAU school at that! After I finish my undergraduate degree, I’m going to go on to a doctorate program! Because I was homeschooled I was able to discover my passion for PT and I’m now so close to finally getting into the program!

This really sits on a grey line of both types of school almost as if they don’t want to offend anyone.
Homeschooling is far superior in most circumstances. And for families that do it correctly, children are in college classes in middle school. They also sacrifice often, a second income that costs families the equivalent of the best private schools in the nation.
And they do this sacrifice by choice to give their children a better opportunity to be a good citizen and have a leg up on their peers in the job market. Homeschooling is truly one of the most loving things a family can provide for their children.
This video is nonobjective and slightly biased for public school (which we all know are failing the grade in every way possible these days)

One of my good friends homeschools her kids, and I'll say that the "nothing to do in the afternoons" is totally inaccurate, with her at least. I swear, we almost never get together because her kids are always busy with soccer, basketball, gymnastics, co-op, scouts, or any number of other extracurricular activities they have going on.

      Yup.
We homeschooled ours and they played soccer, baseball and were in scouts and 4H along side community service and church youth everything. Many public school friends.
What wasn’t filled w other instruction and music was filled w robotics, coding and raising animals and gardens to show food chain because they wanted to become vets and doctors. This was the best way in our area to expose them to field medicine and real life instruction.
We had field trips biweekly with other schoolers and never missed football games their fellow friends from public school played in for the hometown.
Our public school system also allowed our kids to have access to band/orchestra and all other UIL activities through the school. So best of every world!

Hey, Katrina! Just stereotypes, of course! We love home schooling - Brad actually homeschools his kids, and his wife grew up homeschooled too! In a similar vein, Brad and Jake grew up public schooled but we didn't see a fight every week - just having fun! Thanks for watching!

    • @xbemos

I’ve never heard that stereotype and we homeschool.
Also it’s a really unkind stereotype to pick on, considering speech issues are often linked to psychological issues like spectrum disorders that have nothing to do with what school someone attends.
There’s plenty of other stereotypes that are less offensive to a crowd that can’t help their disability.
Seeing fights in school isn’t a disability or mental hurdle.

I know humor is usually based on stereotypes and oversimplifications, but seriously...Iowa has great homeschool rules which allow homeschoolers to participate in all kinds of public school activities. Our local school district has a great homeschool support program, and we see homeschooled kids involved in all sorts of things. The girls cross country team won 5 consecutive state championships...one of those years 5/7 of the varsity runners were homeschooled, including the individual state champion. Other homeschooled kids get involved in music and have gone on to participate in collegiate marching bands. And there's the girl who was a 4-time cross country champion AND went on to collegiate marching band. And of course their academic achievement is second to none...National Merit scholars, kids getting AA degrees before they're out of high school, going on to double major in mathematics and computer science, pursuing PhD's in genetics. Glad to say our state is more concerned with giving people choices that work for them and their families instead of trying to build walls between public and home school tribes.

This should be preference "homeschooling form the 1980's" It's a completely different world now. My neices and nephews are significantly more social, academically successful, prepared for adulthood, and well traveled than any public schooler than I know. Though I wills say, still not as athletically inclined.
I grew up homeschooled in the early 2000's, some of these stereotypes are true, but the majority aren't. At least for me and my 8 siblings. The field trips thing is a total miss... most all homeschoolers I know traveled extensively. Myself, I've been to nearly every USA state, and all major continents except the Artic. My math and spelling skills are pretty weak though. Lol

Zero sports, no music, no friends.
