- I was prepared to really dislike my time with this phone, but after a wedding weekend with this accessible but powerful package, the ASUS Zenfone 8 started to win me over -- even if the cameras are not spectacular, they still get the job done. So, how many times did he say "Flippy-Dippy"? Lol! Great perspective on this sleeper-hit phone.
Now that's what I call a camera test! And it's way more than just a decent camera. And being backed up by a great bundle of powerful tech. I could imagine going for that phone. I would have gone for last year's flippy dippy but was repelled by the lack of a headphone jack which they still had in the Zenfone 6. So they excelled in their cameras but cut out a must be feature for me simply because you can connect external microphones so much easier and still connect a charger when needed at the time of recording plus you are not wearing out the flimsy USB-C as much. Sadly again ASUS didn't include the jack on this year's Zenfone flipper. But at least they included it in this little power house. And the front facing snapper on this one seems to be pretty capable, too. I also actually do appreciate the smaller form factor. If they would be a bit bolder and implement some color design action on their next creation of such a phone it could become a lady's champ as well I think. Let's see if ASUS will continue this line. I guess it depends very much though on how this phone is received in general. Bang the drums ASUS!
As you've said "Minimize the pocket," If this was with cameras to compete this 2021', this would be my top of the list for upgrade.

sold my s21 ultra exynos and pre ordered the 8 flip and it will arrive here in manila on the 1st or 2nd week of june.. glad to see the imx686 sensor is still pretty capable andnso does the imx 363.. im really impressed with the shots you've taken.. i like the true to life colors and details.pretty curious too about near stock android experience that the zen ui 8 offers.. and nice touch on that small "cameo" by Isa haha..

I read somewhere that this phone got a software update this week that improved its camera quality. Curious to know if this camera review was done prior to or after this update

It's one of the rare cases that the case looks better than the back of the phone!
The camera footage was really nice, then again, unless you are actually comparing and pixel peeping, most good smartphone cameras are surprisingly capable.

the front cam is just okay though, gotta admit. The potrait mode seems too beautified for my liking, or probably for most people preference
Photo quality seems on pair with Pixel 5 at least which is outstanding result. I certainly didn't expect it from Asus.
I still use a Zenfone 6 and I'm still satisfied with this product. It has all I need.
I completely agree with "Flippy-Dippee" cameras. It's a smart feature to have no hole in the screen.

2:45 that surprised zenfone face you make when you realize this phone is amazing
IMO, wide angle looks very good because of they're using 1/2.55" imx 363 sensor compared to the competitors that often used 1/3" -1/4" sensor..but their wide is not wide enough
Sony main sensor...ultra wide...selfie 4k,...main camera ois and eis all I need

Looks like one of those camera phones which we won't regret with its outcome which is quite good. Unless one compares with some other phone, this is a promising setup from Asus

i can't choose which one i should buy between pixel5 and zenfone 8. i like pixel5's photo but zenfone8 has more benefit such as speaker, headphone jack, bit more narrow size. however camera is most important factor to me.

You forgot to test front camera in low light. That would be great to be tested since the aperture is only 1/2.5 which seems a bad value.

this really brings nostalgia of having powerful compact (less than 6 inch phone).
But personally, I dont think that ASUS has good track record of update their phone at least for security updates, so thats deal breaker for me.

The footage was good. A bit grainy on the Wide angle on dimmer lighting but overall excellent cameras. I actually don't mind the unassuming design of the device, it's very minimalistic and I appreciate that.

Android has more variety and it's more fun to play with different phones in different price ranges. When you review an iPhone well " it's another iPhone" little better, little faster but pretry much the same as last year.

The phone gets pretty hot when gaming. But it looks like Asus still updating to fix and improve it because the camera was also got hot when using it but now it's much better.
Overall - if you're looking for a compact high end phone - go for the Zenfone 8

Yes it's very good
It's basically flagship level from a couple years ago, so really good, and with GCam if you get a port, it'll be incredible for stills
The 5G will work in USA and in China but make sure you get the unlocked version from My World Phone.

Pictures looked great in good lighting. There's some skin smoothening going in in low light and in portraits
man, when playing the video images from zf8 (with watermark on the top) the sound is captured by smartphone or it's captured externally? the sound quality is very good!!

Im seeing some jitteryness on the video footage. I like the photos though. Small phones are nice, easy to hold, easy while travelling. Good work asus. 👍🏼

How is Asus with software updates. Are they relatively fast or are they a few months or a year behind others like OnePlus and Google?
The images look natural, kind of like you're there with the person. Asus could be one of the best if they fix their updates.
i mean its beast phone simple design good cam sensors 16 gb ram 256 storage and yeah 888 sd but its difficult to consider its size and yeah it was made that way coz putting in your pocket is less hassle compared to other flagships i hope that this is not their final zenfone 8 versions but not really to expect one to come out but really though great review.

Only two things I would add this phone is a one way or two way wireless fast charging and a proper telephoto camera (and I would change the location of the front facing camera to the middle).

Hi I am struggling to choose between s20fe 5g and asus zenfone 8. I mainly use it for watching youtube, taking call, use as GPS in my car and taking pictures/videos. They are similarly priced here in Australia. I want one with good cameras, and has decent battery to last me the whole day(s20fe has a larger battery, but a bigger screen to power, whereas the asus has a smaller screen, and a newer processor). S20fe comes with 6gb of Ram here in AU, and asus with 8gb of Ram. I have an Asus Max Pro 2, at the moment. The battery is fine, but after sales software updates is a concern for the Asus, and hoping it would be better with Samsung. The OS is clean for Asus, so it's a plus, but samsung comes with its security and other perks. Can you please help me choose? Please remember the camera and the battery life.

Great video! If you compare the back camera from zenfone 8 with zenfone7pro ~ which is better? Now I have zenfone6 and I wanna make an upgrade. The clips on my channel are make with zenfone6 but I am limited at 5min per clip at 4k60fps because it heats up. Maybe I will wait for a zenfone 8 mini flip 😄
Doesn't need to be best in all ways. But it is definitely one i would love to have.

The front camera clip from the Asus at 10.35. I noticed the audio and video is out of sync. Is that a phone problem or edit problem?
