00:00 Hello Everyone!
ARE YOU EVEN USING THESE?? (if yes, write "Person below is awesome!" in the comments)
The 85th edition of the Tata Steel Masters is a 14-player single round-robin taking place from 14-29 January in Wijk aan Zee, the Netherlands. World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen heads a field that includes Ding Liren, Fabiano Caruana and teenage stars Gukesh, Arjun Erigaisi, Nodirbek Abdusattorov, Vincent Keymer and Praggnanandhaa.
The time control is 100 minutes for 40 moves, followed by 50 minutes for 20 moves, then 15 minutes for the rest of the game, with a 30-second increment per move from move 1. A tie for first place will be decided by two blitz (3+2) games. If still tied, the players keep playing single "sudden death" games where White gets 2.5 minutes and Black 3 minutes until one side wins. The monetary prizes will be shared evenly. Magnus obviously 2859 :)
Sorry about that!
@@advaykumar9726 Magnus likes ice cream
Pragg played so well, Magnus' rating came down to Pragg's rating
Where’s Medo? Hope he’s ok x
UNBELIEVABLE FOLKS
Wasn't expecting Pragg to hold against Magnus after so many defeats, kudos to him!
He just sucks at chess he gets draw only due to magnus blunder and after that blunder any 2400+ player can handle the draw against anybody
@@sandshkumar I got that if someone takes the bait, it will somehow feed your reason for existence. I am curious about when no one takes the bait. Will you forget about this or will it bother you?
@@sandshkumar yeah. Magnus only wins when his opponents make mistakes. He sucks at chess. Smh 🤡🤦
@@sandshkumar You know nothing about chess son !!!
@@devadathans5506 it will makes no difference, they just drop the bomb and then move along. Best way to deal with these people is just ignoring them.
Facing a checkmate in one move and still wanting to win a rook is insane. I have watched many of Pragg games and I notice that Pragg plays best games against top players while losing to low ranks player. It feels like you need to instigate and challenge Pragg to get the best of him.
absolutely...he just can't play his best against weaker players
So true.
Ran this one through lichess analysis.. 1 inaccuracy each, 97%/98% accuracy and 6/5 centipawn loss. Amazingly accurate play.
Except the Nxf7 missed move, which, if you ask Carlsen, contrary to what the commentators say, I bet he would have said he should have made it. It wasn't hard to spot and the complications favor white. Carlsen only thought for three minutes before making his move, which is not enough time.
Thats unbelievable accuracy
"6/5 centipawn loss" - what does this mean?
@@gregshortall From the lichess FAQ..
The centipawn is the unit of measure used in chess as representation of the advantage. A centipawn is equal to 1/100th of a pawn. Therefore 100 centipawns = 1 pawn. These values play no formal role in the game but are useful to players, and essential in computer chess, for evaluating positions. The top computer move will lose zero centipawns, but lesser moves will result in a deterioration of the position, measured in centipawns. This value can be used as an indicator of the quality of play. The fewer centipawns one loses per move, the stronger the play. The computer analysis on Lichess is powered by Stockfish.
@@bassfischer4273 Oh that's super interesting, had never heard of this as a unit of measurement - thanks for the info!
If you have seen the video, Prag pushed the pawn and then gave Magnus a look, a kind of death stare asking do you have anything here. It was kind of cool.
Nerves of steel!! 🔥 awesome prag and MC
In a post game interview in norwegian, Magnus was disgusted by himself . Before Prag played Re8?, Magnus saw that Re8 would be a big blunder because Nxf7! wins.. But when Prag blundered, Mag completely forgot the whole thing, and looked horrified when interviewer mentioned the missed win.
Its not a missed win, as it's not winning by force
@@P.sherman45 Not winning by force, but definitely a sizeable advantage Carlsen would have no problem converting.
Huh? Blunder??? I dont think there was any blunder.... If u check the game it has 1 inaccuracy each with 97%/98% accuracy... There was no blunder, it was slight Postional advantage..which agad says u have to play like engine all moves then there might be chance of winning
@@Enigma427 i'd argue that even if it's inaccuracy, when agad says u need to play like a robot is if the opp play the perfect move after that too. Well sometimes u will have a mess after making mistakes.. But who knows, the game didn't go that way for us to know
@@monomushi for sure but i was replying the first comment that he said thefe was blunder so i said there was no blunder.. Thats all
Pragg always reserves his best for Magnus. What a beautiful game with so much excitement!
#suggestion Jorden van Foreest vs Anish Giri. You could make an hour long video of it. Pure action for 70+ moves
You should have seen them, I thought they were gonna have a heart attack from the stress 😅 especially after the rest finished and there was nothing else to take their mind off the game for a moment. Making moves right when the other player gets up. A lot of psychological action as well. In the middle of the game, it was weird, they had a small conversation about the game. You don't see players do that often. Also I was sure Van Foreest was gonna give the match away, to make his compatriot champion in their home country. Bravo to him for fighting to the end!
Great result for Pragg. Well done. He's becoming a fine all-round player.
My head still spins after seeing this game, just the sheer number of queens
queen: I'll sacrifice myself...
* pawn promotes *
queen: SIKE IM BACK
Pragg is a beast, if you actually watch from main event stream,
You would realize what he pulled off, he was a little worse the whole game ( magnus's favorite style ) and he just kept fighting and dealing with the pressure.
I think this performance by pragg was the best of the round.
A roller coaster!
Still blows my mind how there's millions of games in the database and these guys still find new games after only a few moves
It is and is not at the same time. Some lines will be deep in theory and you can choose whatever to deviate from. Some are previous games that they’ve studied and using an engine they get improvements to certain moves so they’ll play those, creating new games
No two decks of cards have ever been shuffled to the same order!
Sometimes a previously occurred position is reached from a completely new position too.. And i don't think this position is reached in a game, if it did, just insane.
1. a4 b5
2. axb Na6
there are more chess positions than atoms in the observable universe
I think that 20 moves into the game can result in about 10 to the power of 80 different outcomes. The first move only can result in 10 (8 pawns + 2 knights) possible moves for each player which is 100 different positions!
Legend says Magnus played his endgame watching this agadmator video.
Prag & Magnus's game have a different romance.
Defending Magnus with black is a win in itself...
Best round of this tournament
magnus vs pragg 🔥
anish vs jorden 🔥
gukesh vs aronian 🔥
Yeah the stress was hitting the roof! On top of sitting hours and hours in a hot moisty room. Aronian's muscles and bones were hurting badly! 😅 He couldn't sit anymore today, always walking and stretching 😅 Gukesh barely got up, 100% focus. Anish vs Van Foreest was on fire! And Pragg.. I was sure he lost again, but he played with computer precision! Woaw! Very impressed!
this game was so good it had TWO completely new games lol
One of the best games I've ever seen. Masterpiece of a game.
relax
Just watched magnus's interview after the game, and have never seen him this disappointed. Man was emotional. Gotta feel for him tried his absolute best till the last available resource.
Gotta feel for what? It was always a draw
@Alon Go and watch SoCeer sucker

@@alon3304 He had a better position but didn't make the most out of it. Also, every game is a draw until mistakes happen so what exactly is your point?

That was an action-packed game!
What Agad forgot to mention is that Magnus and Pragg played an Engine like game move for move most of the time. A very high accuracy game that is very rare when games go this complex.
Prag dancing through the meadows wearing a red cloak while the Bull is in a particularly bad mood today. And he survived!

Wow! It's a completely new game only after move 46 😱
love these Carlsen vs Prag games, they are very exciting
Thank you so much for the coverage of the tournament!
Also the person below is awesome
Truly battle for the ages!!! What a game!!! ❤
Magnus rating logic is
If ( game_result(p1,p2) == G_DRAW ) {
p1.rating = p2.rating;
}
I realize that Magnus had his knights nicely posted up, but I still wonder whether Pragg might have been better off leaving them alone and moving into an end-game in which he had two bishops and Magnus had two knights. I would be surprised if even Magnus could win such an end-game against a top 20 player. If wish Agadmator had taken the time to investigate this alternate scenario, even if only to refute it.

Nothing like second guessing the best players who ever lived... 🙄
thank you for explaining even the obvious moves because i was wondering why black cant take the pawn in the opening where white can check with bishop and pick up the black queen
I've seen the four knights of the English a lot in this year's Tata Steel

Most insane draw I have ever seen
I can’t wait to one day battle Magnus once I figure out how the horsey moves.
I'm studying Dutch and in Dutch they say horsey (paard). LOL.
It moves in an "L" shape.
@@shawncarter7188 I find it hard to visualise, using the 'L' idea; I always think - and teach - one straight, one diagonal. I know many think in each of those ways; it would be interesting to research.
@@rogerstone3068 Technically the knight doesn't move in an L shape, it uses an extra dimension unavailable to the other pieces and moves in an arc.
Good luck, mate. Lol.

Sick game! Such a madness on the board :O
Way to go Pragg!! This is incredible stuff here man, very well played!
Damn I can't believe I missed this video I love seeing these two play against each other it's always a good match up
Thank you for this fantastic game!
Pragg is definitely going to be a force before too long. I wonder if magnus wouldve played for the championship if Pragg was the challenger.

Magnus gave it the best,
He was close to making a comeback.
He played the objectively best opening, and he was hoping to make a comeback
The world Championship and a single game are totally 2 different things at that level the pressure is just too high .Just look at how Nepo cracked against a man He rarely loses too in classical chess.Pragg would lose by a big margin .In the next few years we will soon have another Indian world champion ...
Nice game! A lot to learn from both..
Wow ! What a crazy game! So many queens on the board .
I WAS wondering about the pawn, thank you🤦💚
What a sick game. Amazing play
Thanks man explaining why Knight to dx5 was no good for black at 1:54
I don't know what it is with Pragu .. He plays with absolute precision against World's Strongests and yet loses to lower rated players !!!
He is very young. I hope he continues improving because he has a brilliant mind for chess and is very fortunate to have such an opportunity in life. I think he will make the most of his opportunity to succeed.
You consider 3 loses (out of 12 games) to 2700+ players in the strongest tourney of the year as "low rated players"?? Curious what it takes for you to evaluate someone as average or above average?
@@bhough410 I am mentioning Lower rated (not low rated) in comparison to Magnus and Ding .. As ELO rating is also an indicator of player strength and when someone is capable of beating/holding world's top two by ELO without being within even 100 ELO points of both of them yet loses to players much lower ELOs than those two then it is surprising.
Lower rated? You are wrong bro
There are no weaker players in this tournament. They are all top predators. Yes there is small differences in rating but if you look at it that way then Prag is a weak player as he has the second lowest rating of the entire ensemble.
ANTONIO, THANK YOU FOR POINTING OUT THINGS LIKE THAT PAWN GRAB ON D5: I BET THERE ARE BUNCH OF US THAT AT LEAST IN A BLITZ GAME WOULD GO STRAIGHT FOR IT JUST TO RESIGN 2 MOVES LATER :)
Amazing!
My queen, your queen, your queen, my 👑 queen and then draw 💗
Amazing 🤩
Excellent commentary.
#suggestion Beerdsen vs Ivic. Some crazy backs and forths!
Expected from magnus to know these endgames better then anyone but Pragg keeping the composure and playing like a machine is really impressive 👏 I'm impressed 👏 🙂
I like this channel. Good coverage, no dogs or other distractions in background and not wasting my time pushing product like "Goth**".
No dogs? This is Medo erasure
if Bobby Fischer played this game, maybe he would comment in the comments of this video.. because he is different.. it's so hard nowadays to find a GM communicating with the fans, even hard to find them smiling again, that's why chess is so boring..
Nice analysis
Amazing Praggnanandhaa agains Magnus!!! A 17 years old indian Gran Master!!!
Sensational!
What an elite game. Especially Magnus defending Pragg's 2 queens like he saw the whole thing coming all along, incredible. Pragg is a great fighter and will be back for more against Mr. Carlsen
I was wondering about that!!!!
Agad looking fresh with the haircut and sweater 👍
Always great when they clash
I am watching agadmator's stream for a year now, I still do not understand what he is sorry about and then tuning something under his desk 😅
When he's not recording a video, he has a speaker doing sound effects, which he "forgets" to turn off when he starts recording. This became such a regular thing in the early years that it became a joke, and now we think he does it deliberately.
