My late father served on hms Black Swan during the yangtze incident,together with the cruiser hms London tried to rescue the Amethyst.
I'm Glad HMS Amethyst made it home safely..how quickly a lot of the Chinese forgot how we helped them against Japan in the war..3 cheers to the Nationalists who helped the crew during the incident.

Whoa, the father of a friend of mine was also served on HMS Amethyst, and he told me about the incident that happened at the night of 20th of Apr 1949 when I was in a scientific conference in Europe several years ago.
In 1969 I went for training in a secret spy base, my instructor was Jack French, the radio operator on the ship, he complained that in the movie he was portrayed as liking his "Herrings In' he said they just put it in the movie to amuse everyone, but it did not amuse Jack, who was a lovely guy.
