In the second example you were not reading the rta of channel 2 so it was bound to look flat.

It could be, as I am still trying to learn about MSP.

Hey Dana, I just wanted to mention that the Behringer measurement mic does NOT come with a downloadable calibration file. This is a situation where I'd personally recommend spending an extra $20 (or sometimes less) on the Dayton Audio measurement mic which does come with a factory calibration file unique to your specific mic, just in case you ever want to use it with something like Room EQ Wizard, or SMAART (although I imagine if you can afford SMAART, you are not bottom feeding for measurement mics - lol). The calibration file does also give some peace of mind that your own copy of the mic is reasonably flat, since it's just a text file you can open & evaluate. Behringer quite often hits home runs with their mics (eg BA 19A, C-2, B-1), but in this case, I think they come up short with the ECM8000.

Choosing the right measurement mic is critical but you also must know the limitations of the mixer/software you will be using. I think the ECM8000 is a great mic for the X/M32 Mixers. As you already noted, you don't need a mic that has a calibration file as it will not make the mic function any different, and it's not needed to setup this function inside the mixer. This is the Behringer Poor Boy "Room EQ Wizard/SMAART" process wrapped up into one little ball. ;-)

Thanks for easy explanation Dana. I'm a front man and want to get better sound. this technique of auto eq a room using white noise is new to me. Newb question but this technique only works in a quiet environment correct? Trying to perform in a bar with background noise ect won't work

This feature is OK if you are not into mixing, but it may cause more harm then good.

I don't know anything about the XR18s but AFAIK, it should work. You can always get the free version just to see though, before you make the purchase.

Yeah, you aren't doing this right. You don't have the geq set to the right source and don't have the rta reading post geq. You are looking at the source pink noise signal and saying that is how the room sounds because of your acoustic treatments 😂

I have never stated that I understand how to use MSP and if you know of a video that explains this feature, please let me know.
