RD and SD sir both are legends so i can not say who was great music director of their era.I am deserve to compare,but i am very fond of RD burman saab because it gives me another level of feeling to my heart and my suol of pancham da music not only his song but also his back ground music.i had, have and i will remain great respect for him till my last breath as i fell RD burmam was a god of music and very humble human being.Jai Pancham.

Dada Burman was the greatest and most complete music director.One just has to listen to his scores in Guide and Kagaz Ke Phool to bear out this fact and I am yet to hear a score that matches Dada's versatility.Really a doyen .We really miss him. 🙏🙏🙏🙏

SDB & RDB both had their own styles , however, RD learnt a lot from his Baba SDB, both of them were brilliant musicians and left behind huge treasure of music to explore and research their work...

Majrooh Sultanpuri on S. D Burman (Loosely translated from Urdu):
In my life there have been two music directors who have played very important role for me to become a songwriter. When I came in the film industry, the first one was Naushad Sahib. After that, when I became known as the topmost songwriter, my golden period started with S.D. Burman Sahib.
With Burman sahib, I was able to carry out unusual experiments, in form and in writing. I would experiment with new styles due to his meter and his help, which were not possible before him. I don’t think I would ever be able to repeat them anytime in future.
He used to call me Muzrooh instead of Majrooh. Now that he is no more, who will call me, “Muzrooh, Pancham is like your son. Look after him.” I would say, “Dada, no need to remind me. He is my child. I will definitely look after him.’
In a true sense, he was our guardian who would always guide us. We will miss his kindness and support. We have lost a very big treasure of our life. May god give us strength to bear this loss during our life-time.
(Towards the end, Majrooh’s voice becomes heavy and he is almost in tears.)

Motwani sahab..Same here. And like We have discussed over some of videos here, my grandpa was in a friendship with Naushad ji (even attended his wedding in 1945), and used to admire SD Dada- Yuvraj (Tripura ke). He used to enjoy music with Dumrao Maharaj specially K.L.Saigal Sahab & Akhtaribai (Begum Akhtar). SD Dada was more reserved. When he offered paan to someone, it meant Dada ne respect dia. My dadu ate twice his paans🙏😊 Naushad ji ke sath to unki purani gehri dosti thi. I miss my grandpa, his talks of our old Kashmiri days (Gilgit side of our forefathers) and his greatest mistake-he couldn't meet Rafi Sahab ever.

His sharing paan with someone was considered reward for that person. Lata has said that when she sang well for him, he would give her a paan. In my uploaded videos on CZcams, if you search, ‘SD Burman and his Passion for Paan’, you will know more about him and his paan.
Naushad and SD Burman were very good friends. On CZcams if you search ‘Music Director on SD Burman’ you will know about their friendship.

S D Burman and Majrooh Sultanpuri : Legends, inimitable, unforgettable. Waheeda Rehman also has said that SDB was very simple and childish. Whenever a legend passes away, there are always tributes from colleagues, co-workers and others. The main feature of tributes to S D Burman is that they are always from the heart. He was not only admired but also loved by those with whom he worked.

Can’t thank you enough. I am a die hard of Majrooh sir and his lyrics. RD and Majrooh gave many popular evergreen melodies. Inspite of he being a die hard communist I still love his magical play of words for songs. His lyrics were unique meaningful and heart touching

Does anyone remember the initial part of this or some other such talk or interview where Majrooh saheb had an anecdote involving SD Burman and Sahir Ludhianvi, in which he recalled SDB, turning to SL in the car, while having a banana, and asking if he was hungry and wanted to have a banana, and when he said yes, pointing to a banana seller and asking him to go get some for himself.
