  • Christy mows with the Ventrac 4500Y while Tractor Time with Tim mows using the John Deere 2038R. Which one will give a better cut? The Ventrac has a finish mower deck that has a full-width rear roller so it floats over the uneven yard! The John Deere 2038R mows faster so it gets the job done quicker. Which cut do you prefer?

1:20 "doesnt want to throw grass in driveway so makes sure the side discharge is away from driveway" 36 seconds later aims and ultimately throws grass on the driveway. As John Steinbeck penned- "the best laid plans of mice and men often go astray." lol

Enjoyed your vid. Appreciate your honest comments. I've used a Ventrac (but with a heavy duty deck) for 5 years and still love it, especially since I specialize in slope mowing. Plus like its versatility, since we use it in winter for snowplowing & salting walkways.

I've been looking at the ventrac for well over a year now and I have to say that you two are the first to say anything about it bogging down. That really worries me because my current mowers cannot get through my grass.

For my personal needs it doesn’t compare to a tractor, but I manage a baseball field and I think it would be the perfect machine for that application

Lookin good. Love the ventrac machine. Go different directions each time you mow if you want to stripe the yard. If you go the same direction every time your training the grass to grow that one way. Its better for the yard to change directions each mowing session. Of course if you want it to look like a golf course you'll have to buy a reel mower set-up. They cut the grass instead of ripping the grass. Just some ideas for yall. Have a good one and be safe

I like the gang mow operation! Reminds me of watching combines knock down a field of wheat or corn in no time. I maintain about 1.5 acres of lawn. I couldn't imagine the expense of maintaining as much as you have. Maybe designate some of it to natural grassland habitat?

  • @BillCoSmith

Noticed the mower deck adjustment handle is up. It should be stowed in the down position when mowing.
Keeps it from getting snagged when you get under pine trees and such.

I used to drive a 12 foot mower with flail mowers on it. One on the 3 point hitch and one hydraulically mounted on the side. Then I also drove a 15 foot cut mower. One in front and two on either side. That machine was all hydraulically driven. Of course, I also drove them on the roads to get to different places. Oh, to tie up traffic in the morning. 😎😎😎 I don't know, but I like to cut in unusual patterns. Going round and round creating circles is nice. Another great video guys. 😎😎😎😊😊😊

Tim , I saw your clip about a hover mower. Hover mowers came out 45 years ago. FLYMO bought a hover mower out . A neighbor of my parents bought one to try & it lasted about 4 hours . It was a complete failure on FLYMO'S part. It was underpowered & once it clogged with wet grass it would not work at all. I hope this enlightens you on the hovermowers. I enjoyed the video on the Ventrac. I have 5 acres to cut & am very interested in a Ventrac with a 72" mower, a 42 " inch snowblower attachment & a airblower attachment! Thanks for the info!

I was always impressed with my Steiner 430 with a 27 HP Kohler. After running a Steiner 440 And then the Ventrac 4500 it was Ventrac hands down. I am willing to bet there is no way that John Deere would ever out cut the Ventrac. I have been cutting with a 72 inch deck for years. That Ventrac will outlast, And out cut the Deere any day.

You all could install a Husqvarna Automower in the front yard and not have to worry about the mowing time. And since its flatter the wet spots wont factor in with a small robotic mower taking care of it. I would recommend a 450 high cut model. It can handle 1.25 acres and more if the terrain is flat

Not sure if I have seen one around your place, but since you toured Superior Tech you might have something in the works. I have a 60 gallon Deere sprayer I use and one of the videos I have seen requested on my channel is using a sprayer. When you get after your dandelions, your bigger audience I am sure would love a sprayer video. I've just never had the time to make one when the weather has been appropriate to spray. (I do really like my Deere sprayer)

Try a toro sidewinder , I'm running a ventrac 4500z 52 hp. But I still love a sidewinder because of the shifting deck.

Have you considered turning the front part of the field to wildflowers or similar? You could provide habitat for a ton of beneficial critters with that much extra space. We live in a community with 2.5 to 10 acre properties and some people mow everything and some of us just keep a zone around the house mowed and leave other big open areas as habitat for butterflies and such.
As always thanks for sharing. I got my mower deck installed on my Kubota BX23S this weekend and mowed our yard as well.

Hover mowers have been out since the 60’s under the flymo brand. They look interesting, but I really like the height control of wheels.

The Ventrac is a Lot better on slopes of course you might need to add dual tires. I know mowing is just a job but mowing horizontally, vaertically, and diagonally altering will make you yard look better. Like the previous person said mowing one direction trains your grass to lay one direction also the tread marks from your tires will become really visible. Stripping doesn't have to be perfect. The straighter the better but crawl before you walk and give your yard a chance to be more appealing.

For that large area, I'd use an offset tow behind mower with either unit.

I pull a swisher with a four wheeler and am looking to buy one more and run them offset, I can run my swisher about twice as fast as a zero turn, works well if you have a big flat open yard 1+ acres

Tim there’s a piece of property that the parish owns next to the apartments where my son lives. It was filled and graded by them and now it’s getting close to 5’ tall with some wild saplings and weeds. I want to get in there so bad and cut it; with a brush mower or a flail mower. Just irks me that it’s not kept up.

Just to give you a comparison as far as time. I have a 1025r with the 60 inch mower deck and it takes me about 2hrs and 20 minutes to mow 4 acres
