    Going on our location, 8 miles from the Ohio River (South) and 2 miles from the Great Miami River (West) ----------> All the sand and gravel is along the river valley's ( Bottoms ) and there's zero sand on top the hills where we live. Strictly top soil over clay (and rock).

    I'm a one man show, what is here is mine, most would consider it junk. Just curious, if you haul Travis's cattle with your trailer does he pay you for the haul. When the trailer needs new tires, do you buy them because its your trailer. If you use Travis's tractor and disk, do you pay him for the rental. The combine I can grasp. X $ to your dad for every acre, but is the price adjusted for who is operating it. Ryan, NOYB is an acceptable answer. I've been farming a why and have no incite on how a share arrangement works. Don't mean to pry.

      +Douglas Laramie We just mutually agree to use each other's equipment. If one of us is using something heavily and something breaks, it's assumed that person either pays for the repair or pitches in. We get along pretty well.

    57fitter -- I don't believe their terrain would be sandy because they have hills and valley's very similar to The Ohio River Valley Region where I live. Top soil over clay is the soil in our area. Sand is found in the river valley's and that makes for big business (Sand & Gravel).

      +Joey Fox I may be wrong but this was probably an estate sale, meaning his father was not the only child/family member therefore an estate sale takes place for fair and transparent division of assets. Hence the reason they had to bid like any other person in the crowd, of course as stated they had inside info into the quality of said equipment so they did have an edge.

    As I read the comments, I think I'm not the only one who doesn't know what a farm sale is and why it was back in 2014? I mean why would someone sell a tractor and then buy it back? I don't get this whole thing around farm sale.

    • @HowFarmsWork
      @HowFarmsWork  Před 8 lety +4

      As I've stated several times in the past few videos, the farm sale was held for my grandfather's estate after he passed away. There is not the option to keep equipment if it is not specifically willed to anyone. I'm just releasing the footage now.

    Second Question --------> Why don't you spread tight packing crushed rock on the floors of your equipment sheds ? Seems it would be preferred over dirt floors.

    • @57fitter
      @57fitter Před 8 lety

      +Jim Listerman Ryan can answer this best, but, I'll bet it's sandy up in WI where they're at. and it makes a decent enough floor for a machine shed. I prefer machine sheds that way unless you work on your equipment there. But, that's me NOT Ryan and Travis. HTH

    • @HowFarmsWork
      @HowFarmsWork  Před 8 lety

      It was a gravel floor when it was first built, all the dirt the tractors have brought in over the years has added up. Dirt is preferred anyway since it's easier to work on without hurting your knees.

  • @jbmbanter
    @jbmbanter Před 8 lety

    Not being a farmer and not understanding auctions I, of course, don't understand the concept of "buying it back from the auction."" When Ryan was using that term I just wondered why something you really wanted was put in the auction in the first place. Can someone explain the 'buy back' concept please? Thanks!

    • @jbmbanter
      @jbmbanter Před 8 lety

      ***** That makes perfectly good sense. Makes me wonder why 'Grandfather' didn't just give the equipment to his son and grandsons but I guess he wanted it sold so the non farming members could receive a portion of his estate in dollars. :)

      Will not do an auction if the owner/seller wants to protect any of the items. There are auctioneers who will do this and now have that repetition of buy backs
      Do not have any more auctions.
      The final gross tally will be more than the seller was expecting ninty-five percent of the time. Also buyers do not like to bid against a not so honest auctioneer
