0:35 - Myth 1
02:07 - Myth 2

►SCRIPT
Myth 1
You see, I used to think that if I worked the hardest and was the most skilled DJ, I would eventually be booked to play in huge festivals like Tomorrowland or Coachella.
But as I grew my skills, won local and international DJ championships, none of what I expected and hoped for came to happen. I was still being booked to play other peoples music.
And that’s thing. For at least 90% of DJs, If you wanna make it as a successful DJ, and get booked for huge festivals and international gigs, you can’t just rely on your DJ skills to get you there.
You also have to be a producer and artist and you just have to make your own music.
The people who headline these huge gigs and festivals aren’t known for their sick scratching or epic transitions, they’re known simply for their music. So if you wanna get to those stages, learn how to produce.
Myth 2
Now my stand on the matter is “go for it” as long as you know how to beatmatch first. And personally when I started out, I skipped learning how to beatmatch to instead learn more cooler techniques, like how to scratch.
So when I gigged out, you can bet, I got ridiculed and shamed for using the Sync button. And to this very day, I still do.
And I can’t really blame the haters. They do have the best intentions in mind, but hating and not being open, can really blind one from things one can potentially do to get better and evolve.
Now, there’s no denying the fact that using Sync can afford you more time to do more important things like crowd reading and rocking, and doing cool DJ tricks and techniques which take advantage of new technologies and gear.
Personally I use Sync so I can do more with my sets to better engage and entertain the crowd, and give them a reason why DJ-DJ’s are better than producer-djs. Just kidding!
Anyway, let’s just face the facts. The crowd simply doesn’t care, what equipment you use and what techniques you implement, as long as you keep them happy and dancing with your song selection. `
Myth 3
Being in this digital era where music is so accessible, I used to think that have more songs will give you a better DJ’ing, since you’ll be more able to cater to whatever the crowd may want to hear.
But from DJing for more than 10 years now, and accumulating and prepping over 100,000 songs.
I realized that by being more conscious of your musical library, having tailored playlists, and just really knowing the tracks you’ll most likely use in a gig, is so much more better than blindly accumulating song after song after song.
By being more knowledgeable of your musical library and the songs you have, you’ll be more able to deduce your libraries capabilities to appease the crowd. Because you’ll have an easier time navigating thru your songs, and knowing which ones can work in your favor.
Now admittedly, we are in the age of Spotify where anyone can get any song played in an instant. And as DJ’s, we have to realize that it’s not our job be a Human Spotify App, rather, it’s our job to curate and play good music. So fill your library with quality over quantity.

Woot! Woot! Thanks for emphasizing that! Cheers!
This guy is a real one💯 he keeps it real
Woot! Woot! Thank youuuu! More real talk videos soon! Stay tuned!
I love how Carlo is so honest about these matters. After several years playing in gigs I can relate to this 👍
hey thanks for appreciating that!
It always annoyed me that today "DJ" and "Electronic Producer" are used synonymous, while they have nearly nothing to do with each other
Oh! Valid point! Thanks for sharing that!
DJ Myths Busted (continued):
* Crowd does not care whether you play VINYL or not...
* Crowd does not care whether the Music you play is coming out of an Entry Level DJ Controller or an Expensive Pioneer or Denon gear...
* Crowd does not care whether you use SERATO or REKORDBOX or TRACTOR or VIRTUAL DJ or DJUECED or MIXXXER or any other DJ SOFTWARE KNOWN OR UNKNOWN TO HUMANITY...
* Crowd does not care whether you can SCRATCH or not...
.
Let's see how long this thread goes 😎
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! A man can't build a house without his tools eh? :-) Do what you love and love what you do!
*the crowd doesn’t hear every mistake you do, just keep the music going
Crowd does not care about how famous you are, they just want to MOVE
Dude you've come so far! I'm so proud of you
thanks so much for your support! it's been quite a journey!
I also wanted to add that having a good connection and networking with people you know I believe is a huge way of getting gigs as well.
True! It's the way of the world..
You're absolutely right about producer/djs getting the best gigs and I think it actually annoys people that know just a little about the technicalities of djing. Some fairly standard bedroom djs have more skill than most (not all) and I'd rather watch/listen to someone taking a chance and making me think about they've done!
thanks for sharing!
No cap when i saw the eggs i was dying coz I always turn the stove knobs and like I'm a Dj 🙌😹😹💀
hahaha! funny!
I started djing recently and fell in love with it! Thanks to your channel, I have gotten much better and learned more. Thanks Carlo!
Great to hear you and a lot of aspiring djs are learning from my videos!
I'm with you Carlo 100%, and I love those Lonely Island drop the bass clips.
Yay! Glad you enjoyed the video and the mix too! Cheers!
Such a great video as always
Thanks so much!
Hi Carlo! Really interesting points buddie ✌️
I'm tottally agree with what you said and personally I think people are gonna enjoy this points.
You are awesome!!! 🔥
thanks for the support!
I'm guilty of having too much music. And I feel the same about the sync, it's the progression of the art. Before vinyl djs were turned off with people using cdj's.
Then how dare you use a laptop. And now we have things like the Phase that take the art and medium to another level. Things will change some will accept and others will hate
yup! thanks for sharing!
1:19 that's definitely correct

Great video!!! 🥰🥰🥰
Glad you liked it!!
"Do you really think a member of the crowd will publicy shame you?" Love it 🤣
Hihi! Thanks for watching! More tips soon!
There’s the cult of the “expert” where we’ve all seen commentators dissect and critique every aspect of a musical performance, whether it’s a DJ, drummer, guitar player or whatever
Truth is, no one really cares if you’re the fastest/best/most innovative out there. You’re booked to entertainment people
Case in point...a friend saw DJ Kool Herc play...he said the set list and beatmatching was impeccable and he kept the crowd rocking
But it terms of techniques?!? Some basic transitions, probably a baby scratch here and there...nothing extraordinary at all.
Did anyone care or notice? Nah!
Great content!
Woot! Thanks for supporting my content!
amazing as always

So good to hear that you can use sync, and btw, ZEDD USES SYNC!!!???? Thanks for the vid!!!
Yeahhh! It’s not a mortal sin! And if it is, it’s forgiveable! LOL!
Very useful information u given.
Thanks a lot! Glad you found it useful!
I've been DJing with just a laptop since October of this year. I'm a little nervous about making mistakes if I get a controller one day. This makes me feel less nervous.
Keep on practicing! You’ll get better!
Dear brother Carlo, you're really an intresting and true HUMAN of all times.
Am proud of you and listen to you whenever your pushing precious knowledge to the world.
I bought a "PIONEER DDJ SB3" just because of you and i feel so happy.
And am watching you whenever you teach the "DDJ 400" etc.
I really love what you do and please, don't stop.
The good LORD loves innocent souls like you.
I love to grow bigger in "DJING" and may be one day i may also own a "CDJ 3000".
GOD above all, too much love for you dear brother🙏❤💪❣🛐.
Blessings to you.
Thanks for the kind words bud! I'm really happy that you're happy with the SB3!
Very inspirational ❤️
Woot! Glad you think so!
Good calls. Beat matching - On gear these days it tells you in multiple areas what the exact beat is playing, so what is the difference. It does gives an advantage to throw in some more tricks. So beat matching isn’t/shouldn’t be frowned upon.
thanks for your thoughts on this!
You are awesome ❤
You too! Stay safe! Stay awesome!
Cant wait to earn money to buy a controller... Been watching a lot of your tutorial vids :3
Glad you like them! Eyes on the goal man! Goodluck!

Love the sync button bit 👍 it’s there for a reason if you don’t like it don’t use it let other people mix how they want
sure! thanks for sharing what you think!
Dear Carlo, I have been kinda inspired by you buying a dj controller. Your videos are so essential in familiarizing with the DDJ-400. It was hard to switch from Traktor+midi to the 400s. So one of the biggest issues I am facing here, is the tempo. Beat matching system provides good job (auto cueing NOT) but I wonder if there is a way to smoothly switch, or go back to 0 point in many cases. Ever done a video around this problematic segment? Thanks for your work, I am with you! :) peace
Thanks so much for the support! Goodluck with your decision!
1:45 I was thinking this after watching your last performance at the World Dj Champ mix. . How is this man not on the board? lol
haha too kind! Thanks for your support!
I’ve been beat matching for 20 years . Now I press sync just to match the tempo of the two songs , I don’t care about beatgrids , because I adjust the mix tempo by hands . am I not a dj anymore ? I think I’m just smart ...
Hey Man , your videos are the best on the net ! 👍💪💯
Thanks for sharing your style!
i do the same thing. i just take it as it comes. sink sometimes, tempo adjust sometimes. i actually get excited if i pick my next tune and it's the same bpm.
I just recently got my first DJ controller, and plan on buying your beginner DJ course.
Welcome to the club bro! Have fun and let us know your progress!
Hey carlo can you make a mix in which you can show the sinario of a real live set the starting, middle, ending 😇
How to hype the crowd ?
How to perfect the song selection?
How to use the cdjs when you are totaly new to cdjs
thanks for the suggestion. most of my videos contain tips for those things.
hanep talaga idol
Thank you, Idol!
Nice
best skill
thanks for watching!
Thanks for all the tips.
I've a question tho: how can you link a MIDI keyboard to a DJ set? I have a DDJ400 (Rekordbox) and a MIDI keyboard and would like to use the MIDI keyboard.
Glad the video helped you!
Tips 2 and 3 are good. 1 is an unfounded dream :)
Woot! Thanks for watching! More videos soon! Stay tuned!
Sync is essential for big tempo changes but that's the only time I personally use it. If someone else wants to use it for every transition then good for them. Song selection is more important than whether you manually beat-matched or pressed a button to do it. Anyway, let's be honest about it - 90% of beat-matching is already done for you on any modern digital controller or CDJ. All the sync button does from the point of getting the BPM right and lining up the beat grid is stop you drifting off beat.
These are valid insights! It’s not a button that fits all! Good points raised! Thanks for being here!
This is why i love Jungle/Drum and Bass so much :D.... 1, I'm not crowd-pleasing a bar with 1000's of genres to make some kinda convoluted mix. 2, sync makes my mixes tighter 3, every DnB lover appreciates the mix and blends, double drops etc 4, more songs just make for a better and more appreciated experience from the amazing library we have as a DnB family for double drops that make Dnb amazing. 5, Just because you produce in Dnb doesn't mean you have the best skills to rince a crowd out because DnB heads know mixes etc are important.
Thanks for sharing!
Hey Carlo, first of all nice video! I like your videos. I have a question for you.
I’m DJ-ing now for a couple of years but I don’t produce. I’m a 20 year old student with a small budget. Do you think there is a possibility I could learn how to produce fast enough to become a good producer? My expierence is that most producers start in their teenage years, like 14/15 years old... I have the feeling I’m too late with beginning to produce. What do you think? I would be really happy with a honest reaction :)
it's never too late to do something new! baby steps!
Cool, saw Angry Joe as one of the clips.
wow sharp!
Gonna start being a dj. I hope to be successful. I hope this helps me with my depression. I am going to subscribe to you.
Yay! Thanks for the sub! Welcome to my channel! And I wish you all the best in this new path!
Dj Carlo next time can you make a vid about how to get a record deal
haha i wish!
Nice video 👍 greeting from Japan 🇯🇵😃🖐
Woot! Thanks! Glad you enjoyed this one! Sending my love back to Japan!
Madd like the vybz
nice!
yes but....what about evolving your ears by learnig how to mix with vinyl's ?
Thanks for adding that here!
Off topic about the video, Video suggestion: on your next Mix With Me, can you try using the DJ Controller Inpulse 300? I use that exact controller. Ever since I became a DJ and REALLY started to pick up tips and advice about DJing. And you using the DJ Controller Inpulse 300 could not just help me, but all the ones that use DJUCED :)
Woot! I’ll take note of this! Thanks for the suggestion! Stay tuned for this!
@@djcarlo Yeah of course I will :)
I use sync all the time. Can i beat match? Yes, and, i actually enjoy it however, sync saves me time and i use that time making sure my crowd is pleased. My audience doesn't care if i use sync, only other DJ's do and they are NOT my audience.
Exactly Johnny! It's really up to you if you wanna sync or not. As long as your audience is having a good time, then why not?
OK kaayo ni, its more fun in the Philippines
Thankks for watching my video! More fun videos soon! Stay tuned!

Hey brah! Here we are again... About the sync thing. Maybe where you are based in nobody cares. But in Mexico... The sync button is prohibited 🤭
oooh that's a tricky one!
where do you download your music for free?
Yo one question, how to i import a sound like a horn onto sampler when you playing music
Depends, which software do you use?

I feel like Im not acquiring music in the best way. 1 song from iTunes is $1.29. Is there a way to build a library without spending thousands?
You might want to check record dj pools! Thanks for being here!
I often/always use SYNC because it's more exactly then with the thempo range (they are at some DJ-controller really short) and I want to mix more songs easy and not do beatmaching for 2 hours
(😂 That's a joke😂) !!!!
REALLY HOPEFUL TUTORIAL!!!!🙏🏻👌👌🏻👌🏿🔥🔥🔥

eyes on the goal man! you never know!
@@djcarlo thank you! I'm gonna work as much as possible to improve both producing and dj'ing but these days, music is more then being a good producer. You also have to make use of social media and you have to have connections in the music world, which i don't have...

DJ Carlo Atendido what’s that
I got shamed by a guy (probably DJ) for using sync once and honestly it felt kinda bad even tho I knew he was talking bs
you know your music and your crowd more so who cares right!
Sync is a tool. But it is important to know how to beat-match.
Indeed! I'm very much content with the sync button, but I do want to reiterate that beat matching (by ear) should be the first thing ANY and EVERY DJ learns when they hit the decks!
