How To Create a Boho Hippie Outfit With Thrift Store Finds

- Wow! You really can make stunning, show stopping outfits, from your old clothes or thrift store finds...I'll show you how. In this diy video, we will be creating an entire wearable art, spring / summer boho outfit. We will start with a thrifted lace maxi skirt, create a high low design and add a ruffle, cut from a thrifted lace tablecloth. Then, we will upcycle two of my previous upcycles. By adding a few more details like elastic shirring and lace fringe, we will change the whole vibe into a more boho hippie chic look. Finally, we will dye everything a beautiful pink color on the stove top, with Rit Dyemore for synthetics. Dying clothes is a wonderful way to unify a hodge podge of fabrics, clothing and materials. Just another amazingly creative tutorial…RIT dye is a bit expensive here in Sydney, Australia - I have been experimenting with local plants and kitchen waste…avocado pits are my fave (and you can freeze or dry) the make beautiful blush pink perfect for a shabby chic boho romantic look…the skins are more red hue…your creations are so feminine, romantic, dreamy but also balanced with a bit of grunge and punk style…you break your tutorials down so well - RIT needs to pay you or at the very least give you a years supply of unlimited Color.

Interesting that you adaptively use a plant common and abundant to make a pretty dye. I am looking at a pokeweed plant whose berries bear a beautiful magenta juice that can be set as a dye using gum arabica. I have yet to try it but did use it to dye cotton fabric once, making a large scarf, yet it fades to invisibility over time without the setting ingredient. I agree and love these tutoraias, too, because they are fun, easy with a little challenge and effort required, recycling, and cute flirty! Love the fluid movements, layers and femininity of this ensemble. The dying was so much fun to watch, and thank you for the up close at the end!

Experiment with other brands of dye! I prefer the powder Procrion brand as they have awesome colors.

If you zig zag over nylon fish line you can made easy ruffles and pull them tight without fear of breaking. Use a safety pin and tie your line to it to keep it from pulling thru. Close the pin thru the fabric. After it’s stitched in place remove the pin and pull the fish line out.

I’ve been sewing and creating outfits since I was 9yo. But since I’ve been watching your tutorials over the past year, I’ve become much more courageous in trying new things and not worrying so much if they don’t work. I am more relaxed that I’ll figure out something else or go onto a new idea.
So, regarding this tutorial, I wanted to put some gathers that you did with elastic in the skirt/dress. The material of the dress that I wanted to alter was a stretchy knit, and I had my doubts as to whether the elastic method would work, but I decided to jump right in and try it anyway. We’ll,!it didn’t work well, and it was tedious removing the stitches, but…so what?! I tried it and I learned. Now, I’m going to try making the gathering with your folding and pinching ruffle method. I think that’s going to work for what I want with this dress.
And if it doesn’t work, well, I’ll try something else. LOL 🥰

When I was young I absolutely loathed pink and refused to wear it. Now I love it. It's an extremely flattering color depending on the shade, I look better in a lighter pink but you look amazing in it.
