Tip for travellers doing the reverse trip from Bangkok to Chumphon. Scammer touts are active in an around the station in Bangok - they'll try to gain your trust by saying they're Tourist information and talking to you about where your going - then say that the train is fully booked but there's a bus .... and it's usually a minibus .... a shitty one .... and for good measure there are often pickpockets presumably in the employ of the minbus owners on board. The Sleeper train is freaking EPIC - as you leave Bangkok it provides a local service, stopping at all the local stations - and at each station there are kids with ice buckes full of bottles of beer who will run on and sell you them for a few Baht - party time! but only in second class For the return journey think about upgrading to a first class private cabin - it's a bit special and only double the (very cheap) price
