John Davis roasting stance boys is my favorite thing
"...if it has more inches of negative camber than inches of ground clearance"
Now thats a sick burn yo.🤣
I've been watching John Davis since my teens back in the late 80s. Still going strong! We just bought a Type R a couple of weeks ago. Absolutely love it. This is a future classic.
Congrats! 😎
Look for the TSB for the wiring problems these cars have. You don’t want that problem when you’re out of warranty; I learned a lot about splicing, soldering and crimping in the last month…
I won’t pay over MSRP so I found an Acura Integra Type S for flat MSRP and bought that instead. Awesome car.
I can't afford the CTR or ITS but I did the same thing on my Integra. I wanted a Civic Hatchback, but Honda dealers were trying to rip me off with "dealer installed" options that I didn't want. The Civic I wanted stickered for $33k and by the time the Honda dealer added on $5000 of crap and nearly $1000 "doc fee", it was the same price that I could get an Integra A-Spec Tech. I'm not paying Acura money for a Honda.
Same thing I did when I was looking to buy a 2023 Civic Si. The mark-up and accessories installed makes the selling price the same as msrp of Integra Aspec Tech 6 speed manual. I went with the Integra as well😊
Imo thats a better daily car anyways and looks better.
The title of the video is
The 2023 CTR is the hottest HATCH you can buy right now. Hatch eyyy the title say Hatch.
Not what car you can buy or not
Or what car you want more.
@@albertofigueroa2461 nobody forced you to read our comments but thank you for taking the time and replying here 😂. We don’t need to get stuck in one topic just because the video was titled with that but hey, I guess we made you noticed and read our comments
My automotive maintenance teacher would always play motor week for us in the beginning of class before we got started. He just recently passed away and I decided to check it back out for old times sake. Thank you for this great series and thank you for covering a personal favorite. RIP Mr. Robinson
John Davis, you are an absolute timeless gem. You could never imagine the passion and love for everything automotive you've instilled in generations. I remember watching you with my grandpa when i was young in the early 90's. You always reviewed cars my grandpa loved and wed go test drive them.
He is definitely the best speaker in the automotive review industry. He has that old school vibe from the 80s, which still make these reviews feel retro😎
Right? You'd think it would feel dated in a bad way but that goes to show how good he is! @@DMCarReviews
Nice looking civic. But you look even better John. Glad to see you thriving
The hottest hatch you can't really afford
😂
It's not even available in my country
Looks MUCH better than the Teenboy rocket motif they had before. Not that it matters much but MW neglected fuel mileage. I always like to know though.
It still looks like something someone who has watched fast and furious too many times would buy..
When driven gently, my 2019 Type R gets an average of 32-33 mpg. Entrance ramp attacks don't cut into MPG much. I'm a gentle daily driver. It's a practical beast.
only weak people say that about the fk8
@@stevemcgowenGerman all the way
@@RuggedCoyote69completely agree. With how much fun this car is and the looks who worries about gas mileage on a car like this
If only you can buy it at MSRP. Honda are you listening? Don't let the dealerships screws the customer who really wants to buy it without paying tons of non-sense markups.
Very true. If Honda does not stop dealer gouging, it will hurt them
If it was at msrp there wouldn't be enough to go around. Less the 3k made it to the US for 2023. Expect the same amount a year for the 3 year run. I'd expect 7500-10k total for it. Same people complaining about the price fail to realize the fk8 with 40k miles is still selling for more then its sticker price new.
I hope they never stop making these and don't stray too far from the recipe, fun and joy of driving forever
…..I’m surprised those seats weren’t stolen before the test was over!!
Or the catalytic convertor. 😊

100% agree & I've owned both. Absolutely love the FL5
@@robconrad1600what color is your fl5?
Fk8 looks better, imo. CTR was always supposed to be ‘in your face’ and ‘over the top’.
Its slower
Great car! My only gripes are the rear brakes not also being Brembo (frugal move, Honda), the pop-up infotainment screen, and the exposed rear-seat cup holders. Other than that, very hard to beat for the price.
Nothing wrong with this
60k is pretty steep for a car that was supposed to be 35k when it launched in 2017
Agree
Bought mine yesterday for msrp no ad ons. Posted a 4 min video how to do it. Love the car
Not dropping $58k for this!
Would be nice to be able buy one at MSRP.

I know that type r turns heads! What colour did you get her in?
"You Can Buy Right Now" - technically yes, if you are willing to pay $10k markup.
You STILL CANNOT get one for MSRP.
yes you can just have to find the right dealer
@@bobb.7899 Most of the dealers that aren’t pieces of shit only receive
And you won't. Less then 3k came in 2023. 2 more years of production. Expect 7500-10k total. Fk8s with 40k miles still selling for over their sticker price. Gotta pay to play.
Well, it's not the best choice if you drive in the snow and wet climate of the PNW. The GR Corolla with AWD will out perform it easily in much of the weather we deal with. I test drove one but it wasn't as fun to drive for me. It also felt really big, too big. I'm not sure why cars keep getting bigger. And that red carpet and seats? After just a short time it looks pretty bad in cars I've seen. And I wish people would stop saying it's a hatchback, it's not, it's a lift back with then angle of the rear opening.
I️ recently watched a buddy’s completely stock Golf R run a 12.52 @110. This is NOT the hottest hatch.
This is a track car
@@fikes73 the Golf R? What’s the Civic R supposed to be? A codpiece?
This comment is golden, it's scary that people in today's world measure how good a car is by its 0 to 60 numbers...😂 nothing else

John Davis: The man. The legend. Never a myth
Just got my 23 type r white as well what an absolute beast!
Congrats man!
Just bought ours yesterday. Can’t wait to drive it.
@@ChadHartman-wn6ri congrats!
Cool car. Really expensive though for a Honda.
That rear spoiler has Ebay written all over it.
Just like your taste in cars
High-priced, powerful, and mature styling.
Lots of these cars are being passed up because of the lofty and criminal mark ups that are being put on these cars. It’s too bad Honda won’t do something about it.
It’s crazy that people are paying 10-15k in markups, absolute insanity!
Why would they. Less then 3k made it to the US for 23. Expect 7500-10k total cars for the 3 year run. Gotta pay to play if you want one. If you want sticker go buy a type s. Pleanty to go around.
John Davis is a legend
44K+ for a 5.2 0-60 and 13.8 1/4???? Those are disappointing times now a days..
It’s not a drag car. It will spank cars with 150 more horsepower around corners and tracks easily. It’s about as fast as the 65k 240i around the track. If you want a heavy muscle car that can’t do squat besides quarter mile get a mustang, challenger or camero and call it a day along with their 14 mpg.
Faster around a track then a hellcat. This isn't a straight line car.
The problem car dealerships over charge for these cars
Thank you for your service John, Davis
Both the type r and type s are amazing achievements in the automotive industry. Thank god Honda listened to the customers and got rid of the polarizing looks of the previous gen type R. Plus the kept the manual!
265 square stance is W I D E
Honda Civic Type R (FL5) new Nurburgring FWD lap record... 7 minutes 44.881 seconds. so much for the desire for RWD or AWD.
Bring back a new CRXsi!!
No they'll make it twice the original size and F it up
@@HondAcura111 You’re probably right, but if I want an apple, don’t give me a watermelon. 🤷🏼♂️🤔
People didn’t buy the CR-Z when it was here 😂 it’d be astounding to see either a modern CRX/CRZ/Civic 3-door produced again; unlikely but amusing. But hey, the Prelude appears to be making a return!
I have to wonder though if the CRZ would have sold a little better had they made an Si version with the HPD supercharger installed from factory.
@@iLupi …..People LOVED the CRXsi, but when the CRZ came out, it was viewed as overweight, slow, and not as exciting (which is true).
There's barely a market for them. They wouldn't sell but a couple thousand.
This is one of those cars that I would love to drive for an hour only to be grateful to get back in my 20 year-old grandpa Buick afterwards.
Man hes still reviewing cars I love it! THE LEGEND!
😂 oil dilution issues are a very common problem on Civics but Honda fails to address it.
Not with the K20c motors
how cools that guage cluster
Better in red than white. Plus the previous-gen Civic Type R was and looked more like a beast than this. Yet, both look rad nevertheless.
Red looks great, yellow is also an underrated color.
But at 5.0 sec not many enthusiasts would think that is FAST anymore. The new benchmark is 4.0 secs and moving down quickly.
Too bad all the dealerships in my area are charging over MSRP for them. Otherwise, they're great in the performance/practicality department for the money.
MSRP is good for what it offers, if one can get it for that. Acura Integra Type S would be my choice. What’s with no heated seats or steering wheel?
Track cars don't get amenities. Adds weight. There will be plenty of type s to go around. Reason why thy sell for sticker. Gotta pay to play.
This is an amazing car and showcase the engineering company that Honda has been with Mr Honda philosophy defeating many odds. I don't understand many reviewers on Honda products as they don't seem to understand the philosophy and why things like loud sounds from exhaust, engine turned down to have reliability rather than like some manufacturers cranking up and unrealistic and unreliable, also built quality in comparison to even luxury brands exceed them. Another is why Honda type R and type S are so expensive, first is type R made in Japan with higher standards, and shipping as well as what governments and Elites did with covid, another especially for type S is America's standards are lower and cost much more due to everyone wants to get rich and unions costs unlike Japan employees have more of a passion for their jobs. No reviewers talk about these things when they review and most people don't think for themselves only listen to regurgitating garbage(like stuck on Honda volume nob....bunch of nobs).
This is why the CTR will eclipse the ITS as a classic. It will always be the more exotic version of this car, with Japanese manufacture, simple performance Honda ethos without seat heaters and fake burble tune. I see far more ITS than CTR, and look forward to keeping R-14560 into the distant future.
Just let me imagine if this well made machine was also RWD...❤
If only we could convince Honda to bring back the S2K with a combustion engine.
FWD won in terms of agility, weight, and power delivery. In FWD you don't need a long and complicated driveshaft to the rear that robs your wheel horsepower. Engine hp will be delivered to the front wheels with no power loss
Beautiful, powerful, special and overprice due to the unrealistic mark ups. Honda has something good on their hands, but dealers are destroying it.
$44g's for turbocharged Civic? No thanks, John.
I have one. Only complaint is no heated seats. Has GPS and the Acura integra tpye S doesn't? Hmmm. Tires are expensive but are great. Third Honda, love the brand.
Love my CTR even more than my SS camaro it's really a fun car to drive and it'll handle just as good or better than cars 2and even 3 times it's price with mods and a tune you'll find yourself in a FWD civic that reminds you of a 911 turbo for way less money the handling is really that good
Wow the presentation style is so nostalgic. Weird seeing a new car in this video.
When we drove these off the ship at work, the civic redlined 1st 2nd and 3rd in the R mode. by time you get to 3rd gear torque steer gets scary haha
We need to figure out a way to go "the island" with John and clone him so we never lose this man. He is as impactful as Jay Leno, possible more so to sharing Automotive knowledge.
Nice looking Accord but 25.2psi of boost should yield more than 315hp.
Why lol do you even know how turbos and boost work
The car makes all its torque below 2200 rpm. Just a tune alone with jump you up 50hp and 80tq. Full bolt on tuned should make around 400 hp,400tq or a little more at the wheels. Any more then that and it's not usable on the street anyways. With downpipe, intercooler, full exhaust on stock tune you can really only get into it for 5 secs in 2nd and 3rd before your out of room on a backroad anyways.
Something ain't right. Only make 315hp with 25psi boost?
My old 1992 Dodge Spirit RT almost stock ran 13.97 et. and it was rated at only 224hp at 11psi. boost. I installed a Holset HE351 turbo with a custom tune with bigger injectors making about 21-22psi boost and that was a beast. Whole different car with that turbo.
Fl5 weights 3100 lbs. The car your taking about is what. 2200. Power to weight is a big thing.
@@justinhale2160 it weighed 3,100 lbs plus me. I'm 175lbs.
I wish they'd put a leather cover on that shifter. They clearly weren't thinking of Texans when they decided to make it bare metal.

Love you like a brother John!
Which the integra s had a sunroof andctear wiper
"Tourque steer, that we are not complaining about"... This is the phrase which could only come from reviewers who rely on the advertising of the vehicles for which they review. Pull out your big boy pants and honestly tell everyone how annoying it is to drive a front wheel drive vehicle with lots of power and how limiting it is trying to apply that power in corners or for hard take offs. Be honest and say that until Honda makes another S2000 or NSX sports car, they are solely transportation.
I own a almost full bolt on fl5 still wating on intakes and charge pipes to drop, then ill tune. I'll tell you this. There is no toqure steer. It's gone. Add a rmm and the wheel hop is gone too.
BTW. I own a full bolt on tuned ap1, with about 20 grand in mods into it. I've driven my s2000 1 time in the entire last year.

Weighs less, has more HP and Tq than the BMW 330i video from a few months ago but the Type R still manages to have worse stopping power and acceleration than the BMW. And they cost the same! The Civic Type R is just a mark up hype machine. When you cut through the fan boy hype it is just a $43k car. Why people drool for a souped up civic makes no sense. With mark up the Civic Type R competes with much much faster and better cars.
I have this car. The older Hondas are better. Not a fan of turbo engines.
Whatever you do DO NOT pay over msrp for this. Let the stealerships sit on these for a while and just wait for a bit if you want this car.
