Get out there and practice! Get your speed up and add more lean angle!! linktr.ee/GregWidmar
Ride the medium size version of that bike (GSX-S 750) Should your handlebars be touching the Fuel tank at full lock? I’m asking because my fingers actually make contact with the tank forcing me to back out of the full lock. And it wasn’t like that before.
Been riding for 60 years. I love how you explain stuff that I do intuitively. And I don't know everything, I pick up some good tips and practice routines!
A ha! So “slow” speed turns actually require speed. I never made this connection, thank you!
lol true
The International Space Station is in low earth orbit, say 250 miles, and is traveling 17kmph. The DirecTV satellites are in geostationary orbit at 22k miles out, and traveling zero mph compared to the Earth. You have to go faster to go slower!
I appreciate that you kept the stall in the video, makes me feel a bit better knowing we all do it.
Greg,
You do a great job. I instructed for years with the airlines, including working with new instructors. One of the things that you're very good at is keeping things short and simple. When I click on a CZcams instructional video and see that it's 32 minutes, I oftentimes look elsewhere. Typically they have 4 minutes of material crammed into 32 minutes with 28 minutes of rambling. The quickest way to lose a student is to bury them with information (read information overload). You're very good at not doing that. Thanks for the great training videos you've produced and keep up the good work.
+1 on the instructional length.. and +1 to Greg da MotoJitsu Sensei
Adding speed to assist with the lean definitely works. But there are also many real world situations on the street where carrying 8-12 mph into a maneuver is too fast, such as when you need to be able to make a series of tight turns from a stop to extricate yourself from a forest of motorcycles at your favorite hangout, or maneuvering through a congested gas station where some tight and fancy turns need to be done slowly. At some point in practicing u-turns and tight turns, having gained comfort level at higher speeds, the next level in skill is to be able to bring the speed way down and practice tight maneuvers at very slow speeds, with lots of counterbalancing.
Is foot pressure on your boards/pegs part of counterbalancing?
Hi, newbie here 🚳 . I took the basic safety course last month. Had I found you then I likely would have graduated. Came across your channel while researching a first bike a couple weeks ago and have been binge watching every since. Not only do I know what I need to work on, but now I know how. I'm excited about getting a bike! Wanted to learn to ride for a very long time. Got the perfect parking lot around the corner from house. I'm taking the course again next month. Your app is loaded, got gloves, helmet, boots. Jacket picked out. Narrowed my bike choices to 3.
The aspect that a moderate speed is needed to lean and turn small is not often mentioned or made clear. So gj
you taught me more about lowspeed in just 4 minutes than any of the 10+ minute videos I've seen in the past. definitely going to an empty parking lot tomorrow!
Ah man crazy slow traffic taught me that "pausing little bit things" very well. Actually it's a bit more than just a little bit for me because the traffic is really crazy. I am really happy to see this as a practice drill.
This is even harder on a heavy cruiser..getting there!
Good advice
Thank you!
Love it bro. Just started riding and your videos are a huge help
This is very very helpful, it's something I'm not very good at. I need lots of practice, so thanks very much! Nice stall at the end. 😁
THANK YOU FAST EDDIE FOR ALL THE TEACHING DOWN THROUGH THE YEARS, THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH FROM OKLAHOMA CITY!
Thanks for this. I’m one of those riders that’s still somewhat intimidated to make u-turns.
Man! This is some value packed content!
Yexactly, just the inspiration / reminder / info I needed today to get me ready for next practice ❤️thanx
Superb as every video I've seen of yours!
Thank you for your knowledge. 🙏🏼
Loving the new camera & production setup!
All nice and dandy but if on the other side there's gravel or a wall the last thing you want to add to a turn is lean angle and speed just to realize too late you can't make it.
Hello, I was just taking my first tour in europe especially Switzerland, and I found it very tricky going on slopes.
I wish you would make a video explaining the proper way how to handle the bike on down and up steep slopes and what to do during them.
I learned a lot from you .. thanks bro.
He did one here on hills: czcams.com/video/SQCzQhQG-nU/video.html
Slopes aren’t all that tricky, I learned just by doing it, keep your foot on rear brake, start releasing clutch and give it some throttle and then slowly let off rear brake by the time you release rear brake, you’re giving it enough power to move uphill without going backwards.
Id say you move as in town, because in both the change of direction is quick-paced and kinda slow: you lean the bike while staying upright. This way, u can also see ur surroundings. On the other hand, if u lean ur body too much, it takes more effort and tires u more in the long run and also u cant see anything, but the bike's one side.
However, im by no means an expert, so id love motojitsu's opinion on what i wrote!
Serious telepathy, just this week I was thinking of low speed turns and counter leaning vs the few that can low speed and lean in the same direction as the bike and here you are answering what I wanted to ask. Good job👍👍👍
Love the ending looks humble and skillful
Excellent tutorial! Thank you
LOVE the look of that Suzuki you're riding in this video! 😍 Wish I had one!
Love ya bro I'll be here long as you are 💯💯💜💜
thanks for the tips, you're right as always! keep up the good work!
your front suspension seems a little bit too soft? is the factory setting or the oil is worn an needs replace and adjustment?
Really appreciate your advice
Great info. Do you have a video on down shifting? When to using brakes or not, or both down shifting and braking? Love your vid so detailed. Ride Safe 👍
Nice content! My friend has a 2020 gsx750. He is scared to make a u turn because he thinks the bike is too long and it is not possible to simply do a u turn. I only have 2000km in my bike I bought last year but atleast 500km is from parking lot practice thanks to you! I watch you everyday and try to remind myself of the lessons you teach! Thanks! I am going to do the motojitsu drills when the weather cools down a bit.
Great skills mate, thanks for this video
The shoulder part that you taught in the other video is like magic, I’m very comfortable to turn the vehicle.
awesome tips, Gonna practice that pause stop!
Thanks for this.
Its so hard to trust your front tire but when you get it you realize how crazy you've been riding.👍👍👍
Great demo of the progression.
Good advice…thanks
Awesome I will go back to no rear break I think I was relying on it too much thank you so much.
Me too!
Great stuff we worth watching.
If you don't need to take your right foot off the peg (which you don't - and you need it on the peg for rear brake control) then you don't need to take your left foot off either! It's a classic dirt bike/motocross technique but is not needed on road surfaces - do you see motogp/superbike riders take their left foot off the peg at high lean angles? You need both feet on the pegs unless you are doing some kind of stunt riding. The tip of the peg will scrape before your foot giving you warning that you are near the limit.
Been haven't trouble with my clutch for the last two years, stripped down and replaced and the bike still drags, so trying to do u-turns etc is impossible, which is a pain in the backside, then of course the fear of droping the bike and repairs after wards, lol! But good advice of training us!
Thank you once again
Once again good advice👌
Can you do these angles on transition? Many shoulders and parking lots are gravel drives & asphalt together. How about some videos of max lean going between the two different surfaces?
I've noticed I do well with some more speed, some trail breaking and some counter lean.
Feels a lot like dirt bike berms or sumo riding.
Awesome video bro 😎
In my humble opinion, one of MJ’s most useful videos.
I love that you share all the excercises. But I am too afraid to do them, because of crashing the bike :/
U could get some kind of crash protection for ur bike, right?
I have to admit that most of the U turns I do are in the street/road: in those cases I'm totally focused in rear and incoming traffic from a 360 degree angle. A high speed turn and leaning the bike are not options, so I'm always struggling with very low speed U-turns. Anyway, yours are very good tips to improve our control of the motorcycle. Unfortunately in my case, only for fun. But (not the least), is not that motorcycling riding is all about?
Thank you Eddie for the tips. I have a 2016 1000 Suzuki GSX S and I just can't wait to get my hands on the new 2022 the one you have now. Looking forward for new tips.
Also, I'm riding on the Freeway like 75 Miles but vehicles are passing me by. I feel like if I speed up more I might get pulled over by CHP. I do everything to go with the flow of traffic and yet they still pass me by. I'm confused any suggestions on the freeway?
Nice stall at the end 👋😊
The stupid cagers think they would come faster if they close the distance between you(the bike) and whatever is in front!
But what else you could do!? 🤷🏼
One possible solution is to just drive in the middle of the lane like a car and not make them a space so they are forced to overpass you like a car from the outer lane…
But than again there are so many stupid or distracted drivers so wont recommend you to take that risk!!
You are motorcycle and your advantage is the speed!
If you are not comfortable or whatever the reasons, just drive on the right part of your lane and let them pass you! Say “fuk you all!” and keep driving! Be cool and regularly check your mirrors! Keep your distance from other vehicles, there is not a shame to ride normally or defensively on a bike.
And whatever the circumstances, just try to enjoy the ride!
Cheers
Awesome technique,
I see some people that are afraid to slip the clutch. I ride everything like a dirt bike, lots of clutch slipping at walking speeds, bit I see some people that think they are going to wear out their clutch prematurely. I can't remember the last time I had to put a clutch in, but it's been a long time, they don't go away when you use them a lot.
Hello, MotoJitsu, I love your info but my problem is! How do you do you practice this on a motor witch is a automatich (sorry I am from Holland) no cluch?
What is your advise on how to stop to make u turn fro 40 mph? As you are turning around. Having hard time as a new rider with technique for braking and turning into small space to turn around. Thanks a lot. Love your videos and. Learned a ton from you.
Great Video! Hey completely off subject, but what jacket and pants are those you are wearing? I see both are BMW brand.
Counter balancing really allows for the deepest turns ime so far. Another is I pretend I'm at the gas pump and need to make a uturn from that stopped position. Thanks mister!
Definitely use to be too slow and would panic turn in big looping circles…I actually had to also adjust the distance of my clutch because it was too far away to get to the Friction zone and once I did that I was able to practice everything with more confidence…thanks for the video as always…very helpful…now go practice…
Adjusting the clutch engagement distance on your clutch level is a great idea! It is one of the things
That good instructors do at motorcycle safety classes do!!!
While I was in the Coast Guard it was mandatory for new riders to go through a MSF riders course taught by a certified instructor and member of the Coast Guard.
One of the first things the instructor did was adjust clutch engagement 9n everyone's personal motorcycle!!
Cheers!!
This works great until your front wheel catches a slippery surface and boom. Low speed drop.
I can take a sweeper at 90 mph, but making a tight 10mph u turn scares me shitless 😂
😀. Crazy, right?
On pavement, yes. Very good! On gravel, which I have to ride on everyday, and do u-turns on so as to get in and out of my my place of work, it's a bit different of course because you don't have that traction.
How are you using rear brake with out your foot on the pegs?
Hello Greg, awesome tips, love the camera angles. Shut up and Practice. That's the name of the game. Lol.
Great video.
Cool video👍🏻👌🏻
What about the idea of a quick countersteer to make the bike lean or is it just too slow for that effect?
I just finished my testing last weekend, this was intermitting for me, so we have the box, we can't cross the lines and sometimes i had the speed and lean angle which was easy, then other times i struggled getting set up coming into the box is where i wasn't consistent. Same inconsistency with reaching a specific speed in second gear, passing cones, then making a sharp emergency turn (sway) then stop exactly at the cone without passing it up. Doing all this with very little practice and 11 others over one weekend was very difficult, also temp here was 95 and humidity was over 70%, i didn't sweat the first day, was really dehydrated, made recovery and test day very difficult. I'm off and on, sometime really smooth others terrible, these trainings require so many task all at once otherwise you can't pass. We had several people not show up the second day and they were all much younger than me, without owning a bike and jumping on a smal 250 with 0 experience is a crash course way to learn. Been 40 years since i road a dirt bike, never had issues back then, no fare no training. Driving on streets is much different, I do thank you for your videos and trainings, glad your allowing comments also, don't give a crap what others have to say negatively and disrupt a beautiful things, you have here we really need this. .What you don't know how much it means to me and i'm sure thousands others.
incredible leans.
Great skill boy
Any tips for an electric motorcycle (on/off type torque) and no clutch? I went to "practice" for an upcoming rider course and realized, it's quite a different beast compared to a normal bike with a clutch.
It's all about having fun with the bike while practicing 🙂✌🏽
On the tight circles are you full locking the handlebar?
I don't have nearly enough lean angle, just not there yet. However, even now I worry I will get my foot to scrape the pavement and that prevents me from leaning further. I know, practice...
Practice in your back yard, on the grass. Nobody will see if you put a foot down now & then.
After a while, go back to pavement.
Got my 1st bike 390 ktm adv and went straight to practice. Dropped my bike but kept trying. Thanks for the knowledge @motojitsu
That place reminds me of Mt. Soledad
Suzuki ❤️
Was it ,on 1st gear or 2nd gear when you were going round?
Are you doing that in 1st or 2nd gear?
Is counter balancing the same as counter leaning?
Thank you…
Hey Fast Eddie! What is your opinion on "Moto Gymkhana" type of competition, have you ever tried it?
Good video but I have a Goldwing DCT so no clutch. What are your pointers for controlling these same maneuvers - rear brake?
I have a Zero FX (Electric) and I use throttle and rear break in lieu of the clutch for these maneuvers. You will have no issue.
Still learning
Which bike is it? It’s looking so cool.
On twisties can you counter balance like that just like when you do on this video? I
As a newbie I'm a bit confused about the physics behind powering and breaking the rear wheel at the same time (if I understood you correctly this is what you did while basically standing still with/on the bike). Aren't those two opposing forces that, when in equilibrium, would cancel each other out, resulting in no net result at all? Where do I go wrong in my reasoning? Sorry for the stupid question, but I rather look dumb and ask (and learn) than appear cool but remain unknowing.
I find it easier to accept that powering the rear wheel while breaking the front wheel could result in a "wedging" effect (through the shocks and tires and frame) to play with, but I can't find a way to see this when applied on the same, single physical body; the rear wheel.
Agreed it is confusing. Trying to relate it to a bicycle track stand. But in that case you are really developing a stable point to push and balance on. Oh maybe at full lock the force is not linear on the bike. It is pushing against the front wheel as well? Wanting to lift the bike? So the motor is pulling you to the high side. And the brake is resisting. Great video regardless.
I dunno why I'm still struggling..where in fact I can do the quick u-turn(in wide space)..however if I see the road is narrow I tend to do the slow thing where I got more focus on balancing..XD
Hi, you're so good. Do you use 1st gear or 2nd gear during tight u turns on sports/adventure bikes?
It's always 1st gear no matter what bike doing slow speed u-turns.
What motorcycle are you on in this video?
You are a mind reader
what bike is that, looks lovely
Why do you say no rear brake? The majority of the low speed maneuver instruction videos, especially on a larger bike, always recommend slight pressure on the rear brake, from the beginning? Thanks.
Slipping the clutch? Does that mean that am in and out of the friction zone? Or do I just hold the friction zone? Love that Suzuki's looks and looking forward to doing those pause stops.
In & out
@@savage22bolt32 thanks.
@@tjey379 when you find the friction zone, you only move the lever a little bit. Not all the way in or all the way out.
Did you see the video of the BMW self driving motorcycle doing u-turns? If a computer can do it....
👍🏻👍🏻❤
dude i basically take a slow u turn due to i stop and take them, basically every one does have the same problem with u turn, how can we go speed at that time.
Even if i do, Im scared of extreme lean on a v-star 250 🤣
Im always afraid of dropping my bike 😢
Would this work with super sport bikes?
Any bike czcams.com/video/0GGbn8JUcHY/video.html
That looks easy enough 🙄.
😀
What is that bike? It is sweet.
Which bike is this?
gsxs1000
