Let me explain how real this is... As a child, I never got to eat snickers because my dad had me convinced it was just something people gave to kids on halloween for their parents to eat. The man I LOVED AND TRUSTED THE MOST had me under the impression it was poisonous to my little body and I'd be sick if I ate it.
Last year I bought M&M's as some of the candy I gave away and one of them literally had only one in it. I can understand accidentally putting an empty one in the bag, but just one M&M in it ?

There is an exhibit in the Marine Corps Museum about Tootsie Rolls in the Korean War, So I was confused until you clarified that you were referring to that particular piece. Then I laughed.
I remember trick or treating certain houses that would fix quart size Ziploc bags full of candy. One house gave out gift certificates for Wendy's frosty. For a small town under 300 people trick or treating was never disappointing.
Most interesting things I've ever gotten trick or treating (and usually best of the night): -shaved ice -ice cold capri-sun -toothpaste , toothbrush, and dental floss (dentist obviously) -famous amos cookies
I'm glad someone finally respects candy corn, it's not exceptional or goes above and beyond but that's the beauty of it. We all can't be winners, sometimes simple succeeds
The only way I've found it to be good is made into homemade butterfingers or the other flavored kind (coffee, caramel, etc.), my sister will end up with so much of the original because she's the only one who likes them.
I go through at least 2 bags of autumn mix every Halloween. Plus I buy tootsie rolls #1 they're good for kids with allergies #2 I love them. Plus don't insult popcorn balls those were fought over when I was a kid

This was so completely spot on it's scary! (Not the "scary it's Halloween" type). This sad bucket is why we give out full size candy bars for Trick or Treat! (That and the fact we seldom get more than 10 to 15 kids each year, so...)
Somebody's comment made me think of the time in the late '70s we were out of town for Halloween so my dad made it up to me by taking me trick-or-treating on November 1st. Potential for sad and pitiful, but it turned out to be the motherlode because you get all the remaining half-full BAGS of candy from the little old couples who bought candy only for Halloween and don't want to keep it around lest they gobble it up.
Hey! Mom taxes too! When my kids ask, I just tell them we live kn a state with income taxes still. 🤷♀️ Then there is property taxes since that bucket is taking up space 😂😂

Back in the 70’s Reese’s sold a box of their small peanut butter cups. It had about 50 cups with only the brown cup wrapper…..open the box and go to town…the chocolate also taste better. I miss that box.
I admit to buying the brand but I buy the peppermint. I mainly use them if I want to freshen my breathe or I use them for stomach ache's. Hell, i've kept more people at work with a simple peppermint candy than with medication and i'm only 32. People used to go home with a stomach ache and I just offer them a candy. If that doesn't fix it, I know the person is bad.

I always get a box of big chocolate bars from Costco to give out to the first trick or treaters. Two or three years ago I was so excited to live in the suburbs to hand out candy, not a single kid showed till 2330 a group of four kids under ten they got the whole box plus the two bags I bought.
2:40 I used to work for Dollar tree at the largest store in my district. If you buy your candy early at the Dollar tree you're getting stuff that could be 🤷♂️ years old. Every year whether it's Christmas candy, Valentine's, Halloween, etc all the leftovers (which was always a lot) would be packed up in boxes marked and stuck in the back room till next year. Some of the boxes wouldn't even be used and it would just sit back there for years and collect dust until they were finally put out.
Pretty spot on, though the caramels and tootsie rolls really won me over, over time. Twix, Three Musketeers, and Milky Way/Dark are the heavy lifters though for sure

They are Rockets in Canada and Kilogram bags are sold. Smarties here are Nestle. No peanut M&Ms. In fact Nestle makes a Share Safe box of chocolates for Hallowe'en in a factory without cross contamination.

When I was a kid we would keep track of people that handed out that kind of stuff so we could comeback with my father and uncles to TP their house. Once we even bolognaied their car. Nobody messed with Halloween in my family, we took it personally

This past year we gave out full size candy bars because it was cold (20's which is cold for October), snowy, and we had road construction. We figured the kids that made it to our house deserved to be rewarded for their efforts...

I had to explain "scripture candy" to my husband. Apparently, he had a lot more fun houses to trick or treat at when he was a kid.
When I was a kid we would keep track of people that handed out that kind of stuff so we could comeback with my father and uncles to TP their house. Once we even bolognaied their car. Nobody messed with Halloween in my family, we took it personally

TBH, the Claeys root beer and wild cherry are some of my favorite hard candies, all other flavors do taste like 1800's medicine.

Hey, some of us appreciated the ones who gave oatmeal, especially if they weren't plain! Someone would give out brown sugar or apple cinnamon every year and I would HAPPILY go to their house.
