      Whats wrong with 4 strokes

      Ree Toliver every engine has it's ups and downs but if you must ask, compared to two strokes, four strokes are more expensive to upgrade, maintain, and fix, especially 250fs as they make most power close to rev limiter. That's why we hear so much limiter on 250fs when guys are racing, and that is very detrimental to the moving parts making the bikes very prone to blowing up. Four strokes make 40% less power and 33% less torque. And not to mention they are less exciting to ride. Since the four stroke movement, numbers of riders at the track has continually declined through the years and that's directly related to not only the higher cost of racing, but also the higher cost of a four stroke race bike.

    are the 2 strokes no longer competitive in racing?

      @abracing199 Před 6 lety +7

      mickpork the current CC rules kind of forced them to not be.

      The tech in 2 strokes hasnt really progressed in years whereas 4 stroke has seen efi, mapable ignition timing etc. The 2 ktm 2 strokes in the arenacross series seem to be struggling. And imho, its nothing to do with the riders

      ok....can 2 strokes be developed further? i think ktm has done a little development and there is a market still for 2 strokes but i do remember reading once where one of the japanese manufacturers said that they would no longer make 2 strokes as they had no future.They said that when they develop and put funds into a 4 stroke engine the technology can be utilised across the board from 4 stroke bikes to jet ski's to lawn mowers..etc

      mickpork all depends on what type of racing, in gncc and woods racing you see a fair mix of 2 and 4 strokes and in many cases the 2 strokes are better in the woods than a 4 stroke.

    Mid pack start, mid pack finish, passed two riders, one of whom fell, how is this heroic?
