The board change I understand but what’s the need for a rewire?
They are refurbishing the the entire bungalow happy to replace a 15 year old kitchen, replace a 20 year old bathroom and upgrade the entire plumbing system. But happy to leave 40 year old wiring. Do I need to say anymore?
That’s me not paying attention I didn’t realise they were doing the whole “sha-bang” what can you do 🤷♂️
The light cables have cpc and everything. Very modern.
@@Cjrelectrical Am I correct in thinking a re-wire would actually cost less than replacing the kitchen and bathroom and the plumbing upgrade?
@@RichardArblaster cost less than just the kitchen
The illusive Pablo!! he’s so camera shy
It’s funny that pablo runs the tails in loops like you 😂
I think we all know Pablo. He’s the only one who’s always on time and can always do what’s needed
And doesn’t moan at you
I'm pleased to see that James is coming out of his shell a little more! And so polite too! 👍❤️
James seems like such a good lad, I'd 100% want a lad like that as an apprentice
You are a decent man and boss to be around, I glad to support your channel
Good to see you are looking after young James. Well done, all the best, regards, Chris.
It’s good to see you look after James very well! Keep up the good work, you’ve got my thumbs up! 👍
James is lucky to have a boss like you mate, well done
Great video Chris, and good high standards as always 👍 Nice to see you are keeping Pablo busy, you’ll have to get him on camera one day so we can put a face to the name ! 🤣😉
Good that you did outside light; now is the time for rewire and new board .
Can't believe he's keeping that board. Changed one of those last week, was horrible job in tight cupboard. Nice to see someone treating an apprentice well!
Wow that consumer unit is way over due a new replacement one. And it differently need a rewire but what can you do . Keep up the hard work and thanks for sharing this with us take care
It's always a pleasure to watch you lads work. You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make the client shell out the dough.
Some years ago, we did some work in a ladies house, additional sockets , lights, etc.The fuseboard had rewireable fuses and a wooden base, when we came to replace it with a unit with Rcbo,s as they had just become the requirement at that point, the lady was absolutley adament the fuseboard was fine and did not need replacing, and as she was the paying customer and she apparently knew more about it than we did.So therefore we did not give her any certification paperwork.Three years later, she was selling the house and her solicitor wrote to me about a certificate, I ignored the letter and herd no more.I did a signed written statement about the matter, which I retained on file and still have it.
Enjoyed your video 😊 Chris, it's a pity that the client didn't want to take your advice & just go for a proper rewire. It would have tied in nicely with the on going works in the house.👍🏼 James deserves the tools, Nice one Chris.😉
Love watching your videos, i find them so funny , i was a sparkey in the uk then australia 10 yesrs, now back here again , love the tools and all the new products you show , keep up the great vid and f==k the haters !!!!
Don’t think the owner of the first house has enough spirit levels 🤣
And all the same length too, eh!!?!?! 😂
I know!!
I like the way Chris is always chuckling to himself lately..
Love your vids Chris keep up the good work buddy.
"Chris I'm not paying for that outdoor light"
🔨
I'm not sure how many night insects you have in your UK climate, but in rural New York these days we seem to have about 50 bugs floating around outside lights for much of the summer. Can't open the door without getting half of them inside the house. Had to add new outdoor lights far away from the doors.
Good video mate. Only thing I'm not a fan of is the fire grommet in the top of the board with the t&e going in - can easily poke something through. ( i am a fan of your work as its what we REALLY come across on a daily basis)
Pablo such a nice chap, came all the way to Barnsley last week for us lol. Paid him in coffee!
Came to Guildford a few years ago and fitted an isolator. Did it just the way I wanted it done too.
I had genuinely thought Pablo was another person for the first few vids….now the penny is dropping
Like the Wago box under a push fit plumbing fitting half blanked.
I have never understood some customer they spend all the money on the kitchen and bathroom BUT dont consider the most important parts of the house , that being the ELECTRICAL and PLUMBING/HEATING . It would be much easier to rewire and not to worry about electrical for 20/30 years. But as you said there no legal requirement to require an old property. Great videos 👌
Thank god for pablo 🙏 helping every spark across the country to get the job done 😉 great job once again Chris 👌
Good old Pablo, he certainly gets about a bit! As for the bungalow.... there may be trouble ahead!
Get Pablo to put you an isolation switch at the mains intake ..👍👍
Pablo, the invisible DNO fuse puller!
I fitted that same click external socket on Saturday. Hate it. Going to stick with bg
Chris has deffo been getting the ride lately 🤣
Nice and interesting jobs 👍👍
Good o'ld Pablo!
Lovely old mem light switches
Nice one Chris 👍 thumbs up to get james the kit 👌👌 fair play to ya mate 👍👍wish you lived closer to do my electrics 🙌🏻🙌🏻
Location ? Can be bribed with tea
@@Cjrelectrical oh there’s plenty of Yorkshire tea in halifax 😋😋 by the time you got here it would be cold tho 🤔🤔👌👌😂😂
"Chris I'm not rewiring and don't update the consumer unit" = "Okay, I'll put a new one next to it at a sensible height and feed all the new bits from that and anything that tests out crap i'll leave in place but disconnected. Also half the old unit won't be in service anymore".
You star.....giving away your precious tools!
I can see the reasons to keep the old fuse board, Its far more reliable and lower maintenance than the new stuff. However looks like there are unprotected cables in the walls so not sure it is allowed for this scenario
In Germany the VDE banned the new installation of type AC RCDs already in 1983 (transition period until 1984). In the same year it was implemented that circuits in "rooms which contain a bathtub and/or a shower" must be protected by a type A 30mA RCD.
its a mad world people, throw money at plumbers red carpets and all but the electrics same old story don't want to spend.
you can see a leak, you cant see a broken junction box in a ceiling void until it's set fire to your newborn in the crib above it. people are morons.
You can never have too many spirit levels !
Weird question but I’m an electrician but only work on commercial, I am addicted to your videos and it would be great to come and help out for a day (free of charge) I think I could be of some help and I know It would be amazing for me and my future career,
cheers tom
Great video. Hope you reach 4K likes so James gets the SDS set. 👍
“RED KIDNEY BEEEEEAAANS” 😂😂
Very disappointed Chris. 6:35 look how wonky that lighting label is! Just kidding good effort 👍🏼
Good video Chris & James, I used those JCC downlights the other day, quite good, easy terminations and felt solid
Is there something I'm missing? Who's Pablo?
@15:28 what did you say Chris?
Typical, they will spend loads on decorating because it looks good but won't pay for a rewire as the electric works and they can't see it.
Puablo is so cooperative!
Who is Puablo ? 😳
Saw you the other day near Banbury
Nice open plan toilet
Dark grey faceplate with white rockers is usually an aid for the visually impaired.
Its part m of the building regs for none domestic...Its for people who are hard of sight colour contrast between front plate and accessories. Sometimes you see red switches and white front plate's as well..
Thumbs it up get him that SDS set
3.9K likes - nearly a SDS for James!!
Your a good lad chris
Nice old Appleby fittings
So many sprit levels 😂
Good boss treating James to tools
Definitely would have replaced the board, modern RCBO's, can't beat them for protection.
You can't tell some people, they don't see the need to worry about the electrics, all they see is they work and never think beyond that!
Mate you seem to be so much more happier now you have someone to work with..
Good work chris. Also Jordans catching up to you on the subs
Cheers yeah I’m more quality over quantity. Subs for show views for dough 😁
Difference between night and day.CJR leading the way , good sense of humour and honest practical approach.
Go on the 4k, lets get James the matching set.
I like James, it ‘s sad he has left.
Open plan toilet is a bit modern for my taste.
Been in this game 35 years so makes me a touch older than you Chris.
I watch Nagy, Bundy,Jordan and the main man Savery all good guys spreading the word how to do this work right and to the regs AND learning from all the vids you guys put up (every day is a school day)
No disrespect to above mentioned.
But I think Chris is the one that actually says it like it is and does it like it is so fairplay to him he is top CZcams sparks in my book for now.
Hats off and keep up the outstanding work and vids and making James do all the annoying paperwork on site and making him wear socks he does not want to wear
Stay safe
3:44 Hager is from germany and here in germany RCD's type AC are banned
Philips PZ don’t think so PH!!
Prefer my fan switches down low under the main switch.
Why don’t you use conduits? Makes life so much easier when you need to replace cable or add something to the installation. In Switzerland its building code to use conduit snd have all junction boxes accessible and visible.
Thats clever. How did you break into the tails without a main isolator. 😜
Missed opportunity to add "James is scared of the pigeons" in the tags :D
When feeding the switch instead of the light, will a overrun fan that needs a permanent feed still work??
That kewtech test meters looks awesome, that a new model? Like the way it saves rcd results
Kt63plus
Wow. Old board, old wiring and crap smoke alarms... best bet is that pushfit endstop above the wagobox acts as a sprinkler 😂
Type AC RCD is better than nothing, the thing they need to get rid of, is the twin RCD boards, those things are slightly better than a front end RCD.
There's no excuse to install them these days, especially when you can get rcbos for less than £8.
Does Pablo wear wacky socks too? 🤔 😄
He doesn’t wear socks!
Why are the plumbing pipe not sunk into the walls like the cables, lazy plumbers again ???? looks dreadful when it's finished!
It’s annoying when people don’t update the electrical system when the whole place is ripped apart.
They’d rather have a gleaming new home all looking lovely and then have years of electrical faults and bits of damage to repair the faults all over the place 🙄
I wonder how many lovely freshly replastered and painted walls he's had to chase out to replace a broken cable over the years?
“You’ve got to laugh when you fall off a sofa.”
When there are 5 levels ready you might want to doublecheck.
4:20 Damaged sheath on the incomers?
We've just had a new kitchen, had a decent local spark come in and put a new rcbo board in to replace the 20yr old mem and to put in two 10mm feeds for the oven and induction hob. The guy said we could get away with 6mm but I would sooner pay a bit extra now and future proof the installation. It just doesn't make sense not to upgrade the installation now!. That board will probably put potential buyers off the property in the future.
I can't imagine an oven or hob ever needing more than 40A each. 6mm above insulation can take 59A.
I’ve installed a double electrical range where the manufacturer specification is 50amps.
@@Cjrelectrical which is a double oven and hob in one unit. Understandable to use 10mm2 there though 6mm2 is 59A at best. OP said two 10mm2 for separate hob and oven - can't see both being needed. 2 x 4mm2.
He did say he likes to future proof things.
@@tobysherring1369 the miele six ring hob was rated at 11 kW, fair enough it will probably never run anywhere near this but for the extra cost of the cable it just seemed to make sense to go with the bigger cable.
Didn't James get his duel drill set last video?
Hi if a resistence is 0.3 for sockets does it need a rewire? Its 11 sockets on one circuit and ive upgraded the consumer unit, I just need to get the resistance up?
Good ol pablo
Wouldn't gland in the top of a board, if it was the only option I would use an IP washer also. And brass nut and bolt
Is there any reason to use brass nuts and bolts when the locking nut and the enclosure are all steel anyway?
Galvanic corrosion is more of an issue between copper and steel, brass and steel isn't an issue
Brass or stainless steel might be a good idea in an extremely damp area, but in most areas zinc plated bolts will be fine
@@TheMattSturgeon better conductivity and less corrosive that zinc
In this environment I’m not worried.
I thought James had already received the Milwauki grills? 🤔
Hi Chris Great video. Where did you get them black outside sockets from
Click
@@Cjrelectrical
Thanks for getting back to me so quick. Top man
Normally, the sockets with a dark grey faceplate and white rockers are the "Part M" range. Designed to help people with visual impairments.
I guess they went with the same color scheme for the IP rated accessories as the "Part M" accessories to reduce the number of variants they needed to make/stock.
What is strange though is the socket has inboard rockers, yet clicks "Part M range" catalogue only lists outboard rockers. So that particular socket seems to be exclusively used in the IP rated range.
American electrician here. I don't know if you'd know the ins and outs or not but I thought I'd ask, how much of a difference is there between the electrical work in our countries?
About 120 volts lol
Another strange client but you may end up returning to change the panel. Just wondering why a outside light was wall option, thought I noted a overhanging soffit and was thinking a recessed light would be nice and only have to cut the hole if they want it.
I did suggest this to the builder he said no !!
@@Cjrelectrical 🙂
Good to see the new "Waterproof" Wago box in use under a 15mm copper water pipe with three pushfit joints in it.Lets hope the smiley face does not get washed away!
Plumbers not finished yet
Lovin the Amish look. I've copied u
pablo never says hello does he!? ;)
Do you clean paint off where banjo and swa glanded?
Quality question. technically you should as the only chance you have of a 100% connection is where the thread of the bolt toches the metal as it passes through the consumer unit. i always just scratch the paint off with a terminal and the banjo covers it.
i have a general question about the uk wiring system... would it allow for having each room with its own circuit breaker and RCD, or do you put as many sockets or light outlets on one breaker as you can? in Germany we dont have those ring mains, but all rooms are connected directly to the main power line via the main breaker board.
generally sockets are wired on ring mains, and seperatred between floors ( upstairs - Downstairs ) same with lighting. recently i've started wiring in 4mm 32A Radial power circuits, just safer in my opinion. of course not great to spur from which is a down side but when rewiring spuring off anything is just bloody lazy and not great practice.
Separate lighting and sockets each for upstairs and downstairs, kitchen has its own sockets ring, separate circuits for high current loads like cookers/oven/hob, shower
Not generally separated by room. Though I don’t think regs prohibit it but you’d need a lot of breakers and more wire as every room would need a radial for lighting and for sockets. 3 bed semi with an upstairs bathroom and downstairs loo, kitchen and living room would need 17 circuits (18 if electric shower) and thats not accounting. for outbuilding like garage, and now with EV chargers that would be a 20 way consumer unit.
Source: not an electrician i just find this interesting
Does Pablo also reseal the the cut out, where does the man get his seals and crimping pliers from??
I believe he buys them off eBay 🤷🏻♂️
A shame Pablo is so camera shy 😉
@@Cjrelectrical my mate Rodrigo bought his off their but has just purchased a new pair of pliers from a company called Acme he really likes them
Always thought he was a rogue DNO jointer 😆
Where do we stand not putting surge protection in a little board like that. I know it's not needed but do you have to fill in a form to say why?
Umm I made a judgement based on the led lamps I fitted costing £4 each and the sockets having the occasional garden tool plugged in.
Common sense.
Oh dear, oh dear on so many things wrong with this video but lmao you did not just placed wago box below that plumbing ( 12:24 ) which I do not trust. Unless you deliberately placed it there so when it goes bang, you come and say "Told you so, you need a new fuseboard!" 😂😂😂
Are they really having spotlights everywhere, or do you mean downlights?
