I never really thought about it too much as a kid regarding the 'leadership transfer' because the White Ranger was so cool and easily the strongest of the MMPR team. However, it kind of reminds me of how Taylor (Wild Force Yellow) was the FIRST ranger of her team with over a year of experience making her leader. Then when Cole was recruited and became Red Ranger, Princess Shayla made him leader just because...

Initially, Jason was going to remain as the leader. But Austin St John, Thuay Trang, and Walter Jones had already left. They finished a few episodes, but after their voices were replaced, they were seen less, and archive footage was used for them.. Tommy was very popular, so obvious choice. I don't imagine that Tommy taking over as leader was in the original script for white light. Seems like a hastily added ADR line because of the three actors walking off. On the issue of Tommy replacing Jason as the leader this has always been a hot button topic for me. Obviously they did it because of the contract disputes and the impending departure of the original red/black/yellow rangers, but from i story stand point it made absolutely ZERO since. They had just finished Jason’s arc where he proved his leadership skills and finally fully accepting his leadership roll despite his doubts after Tommy lost his green ranger powers. Jason was an amazing leader to the team and to be cast aside like that because Tommy had a new set of powers was terrible story telling.

However, it would make sense that Jason would've remained the leader because he is more experienced than Tommy and power doesn't always mean you are the leader. I think that maybe Zordon thought that Jason was burdened at times for being a leader so he selected Tommy to be the leader and the weight was lifted off Jason's shoulder.

You have to look at it from both a story and production side of things. Production wise it makes sense nothing against Billy or Kimberly but neither of them felt leader like despite being rangers longer then Tommy. Plus those last remaining episodes they filmed before leaving for good (at the time with Jason's case) did help make the switchover easy. Especially when they no longer appeared at all, and had to use either doubles or stock footage for a little bit. But far as story goes yeah once Jason Trini and Zack left then Tommy earned the leadership role. Though to be fair had they stayed, I would suspect that Tommy would be promoted anyway but to 2nd in command over Zack. Similar to how it went in Zeo when Jason returned.

The White Ranger will always be my favorite form of my favorite character Tommy, no other ranger is powered by the "White Light of Goodness", which gives Tommy a paladin vibe and a nice contrast to the Green Ranger. As for your questions,
The change in leadership IMO is weird, it has no impact on the team and its a throw away line at that. They should've waited for the replacements where it would've made more sense. Despite this, it doesn't bring down the episode for me and considering Jason and Tommy's rivalry there does seem to be more to it than Tommy got a powerup. On the bright side this does set up Tommy's future endeavors.
As for Tom I'm not surprised if that theory was true, after all PR has frequently screwed over time.

If you look at the next 7 episodes, which are The ninja encounter part 1,2,and 3, A Monster of Global Proportions, Zedd Waves, The Power Transfer part 1 and 2 they are using stock footage for Jason, Zack, and Trini. The clothes that they are wearing gives it away, and Zack's hair went from being braided back to a haircut. The Power Transfer episodes is Stock footage of the episodes "Green No More" and The Ninja Encounter episodes are stock footage of the "Song of Guitardo". It took me a while to figure this out, but I had remembered the clothes the rangers wore in past episodes. But for the main series, it kind of bugged me a bit.

@@Justhere377 Fine. I will tell you the story:
The Montreal Screwjob (also called the Montreal Incident; French: Le Coup Tordu de Montréal lit. Montreal's Twisted Coup) was an infamous unscripted professional wrestling incident that occurred on November 9, 1997, at the Survivor Series pay-per-view at the Molson Centre. Vince McMahon (World Wrestling Federation owner) and his employees covertly manipulated the outcome of the match between Bret Hart, the reigning WWF Champion, and Shawn Michaels. The manipulation - a "shoot screwjob" in professional wrestling parlance - occurred without Hart's knowledge and as a result he lost the title to Michaels in his last WWF match before departing for rival promotion World Championship Wrestling (WCW). The "screwjob" is generally believed to be an off-screen betrayal of Hart, who was one of the WWF's longest-tenured and most popular performers of all time.
Hart won the WWF Championship at SummerSlam in August 1997. A week prior to Survivor Series, Hart, who had performed for the WWF since 1984, signed a contract to join WCW beginning in December 1997. McMahon sought to prevent Hart from leaving the company as the champion, but Hart was unwilling to drop the title to Michaels - with whom he had a long feud both on-screen and off - at the Survivor Series in his home country of Canada. Hart, Michaels, and McMahon came to an agreement where the Survivor Series match would end with a disqualification, which would result in Hart retaining the title. Hart would then lose or forfeit the title at a later date. However, McMahon decided without Hart's knowledge that Michaels would win the title at Survivor Series. Accounts differ as to who exactly was involved in the plan and the extent of their involvement. The plan was executed when match referee Earl Hebner, on direct orders from McMahon, ended the match as Michaels held Hart in the Sharpshooter submission hold, Hart's signature finishing move, even though Hart had not submitted. Michaels was declared the winner by submission and crowned as the new WWF Champion.
The Montreal Screwjob has garnered a notorious legacy both on-screen and off, and was partly chronicled in the documentary film Hitman Hart: Wrestling with Shadows (1998). According to WWE, the Montreal Screwjob, which took place at the end of the last match on the card of Survivor Series 1997, is considered the beginning of the Attitude Era. The far-reaching impact of the incident led to its adoption as a theme in matches and storylines of the WWF's "Attitude Era" and the creation of the character of "Mr. McMahon," the evil arrogant boss. Many wrestling fans, and several within the business, believe the entire incident was an elaborate work executed in collaboration with Hart. Nonetheless, Hart was ostracized from the WWF while McMahon and Michaels continued to receive angry responses from Canadian audiences for many years. WWF and WCW, as well as other wrestling organizations, would perform recreations of the incident, including as part of Hart's first PPV appearance for WCW at Starrcade, and at WWF's Survivor Series the following year.
Hart and McMahon later reconciled, and Hart was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame on April 1, 2006. On the January 4, 2010 episode of WWE Raw, Hart, in his first live appearance on WWE television since the 1997 Survivor Series, had a lengthy on-screen discussion with Michaels about the Montreal Screwjob and other events in their past, and agreed to call a truce, bringing closure to the incident after more than 12 years. Hart would defeat McMahon at WrestleMania XXVI in a No Holds Barred match built around lingering animosity from the Screwjob. Longtime industry writer Mike Johnson referred to the 1997 Survivor Series bout in which the Screwjob occurred as "arguably the most talked-about match in the history of professional wrestling".
