    I was on vacation in the US at the time. I hit up a local restaurant that morning. Wouldn't you know it, every single TV in there was turned to the match. During the final couple of games, people began to huddle up around the TV, even Americans who can probably gives less than a shit about the match, and were cheering Andy on. It was an amazing sight to see. With every shot, you can feel the tension! The entire place bursted with excitement when Murray won. I was so relieved to see him win!

    Been following sports for over 30 years now and I don't know that I have ever been happier for an individual athlete after winning a championship - maybe John Elway winning his first Super Bowl or Dirk Nowitzki winning his first NBA title rivals it for me. For this guy to rebound from the gutting defeat at Wimbledon 2012 to win the Olympic gold a month later, the US Open the month after, and then Wimbledon 2013 shows some serious fortitude.

      Britain comes from the Roman, for Britania the area of the UK known as England, and Wales in the present day. Scotland was never conquered by the Romans therefore they are technically not from Britania/Britain. We are Caledonians! Learn what it really means to be a Brit!

    • @stuartthompson8056
      @stuartthompson8056 Před 8 lety +10

      No Britannia is Latin for the island of Britain of which Scotland is obviously part. The Romans conquered what is now England and Wales and ruled there for centuries and ruled southern Scotland for decades and at various times they had a temporary presence further north. So the fact they named a province of the Roman Empire Britannia was due to the fact that they ruled most of the island called Britannia, or Britain as it is now called.
      So yeah, Scotland is in Britain, pal.

    • @brianlorne4263
      @brianlorne4263 Před 8 lety +11

      Stuart Thompson No Britannia is the name given to the area of the UK that the Romans controlled, taxed, civilized Ect Britannia is what the Romans named it I.E England/Wales. The Romans referred to the north as Caledonia not Britain.. So yeah technically NOT BRITISH!.. BTW Romans had almost 0 Influence in Scotland, they where in southern Scotland a mere 50 years or less, had almost 0 control over the people. Having a few failed fortification is hardly colonization. The Romans never even managed to built cities in Scotland some colonization. The Romans gave up after the ninth legion disappeared, and built Hadrian's wall that's the real boundary!

    I'm a proud Englishman but this lad is our greatest tennis player, and one of our greatest sportsmen. Won 3 slams in an era when the three best of all time were also competing, and won the Davis Cup almost single handedly. But above all that skill, what courage, bottle, spirit and sheer refusal to admit defeat time after time, a fantastic example to anyone.

      Wimbledon British or not, the way Djokovic, who won the silver medal, was completely ignored in this interview and not one good word mentioned about him was outrageous to me. Andy lost the final in 2012 and went on to win the championship in 2013. Novak lost the final in 2013 and went on to win in 2014. Will Roger go on to win Wimbledon in 2015? I doubt it, but it's kind of interesting fact though :-)

      I said the same thing about Rog for the US open last year. Rafa lost AO final, won RG. Novak lost RG, won wimbledon. Roger lost Wimbledon...But nope, it didn't happen

      Fed's favorite tournament is the All England Club, so I think he is a favorite to win the title.

      Looking back on it though, I feel like whoever made it to the final between Feds and cilic would have won. Kei was clearly out of gas on that day, otherwise had he been in his form in the last three matches he would have won. If only feds had been on top form to stop cilic on top form. he would have likely won in the final.
