  • Do you have hope? This is the central theme of T.D. Jakes’ sermon, “Don’t Settle” from the series, Reel It In.
Hebrews 11:1 says that “faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” God wants us to have radical faith. Faith that moves. Faith that acts. Faith that is not passive or indifferent. But faith needs hope to prosper.
Bishop Jakes posits that hope is the real “star” of Hebrews 11. Hope is an expectation and has nothing to do with the process. The Word supports our faith, and faith supports hope. People often settle for less in life because they have no expectation -- no hope -- of receiving something more.
T.D. Jakes also bases his sermon on Genesis 17:14-22 where God promises Abraham generations of blessings, a great nation even though he has no children and both him and his wife are old.
Bishop Jakes encourages The Potter’s House to place their hope in the promises of God.
