When this music was paired with Branagh's last scene of the battlefield carnage at Agincourt, it was a stroke of genius on his part. His Henry V was one of the best films I've ever seen.
Let there be sung Non nobis and Te Deum
Olivier sucked in the original Henry V compared to Kenneth Branaugh.
Watched this. For the 1000th time. The Non Nobis Domine makes me cry. These incredibly weary men, sick of death and fear and mud….harmonizing so magnificently as they trod through human devastation. Hmmmm. Well, if it’s Hollywood, it’s Hollywood at its very best. Thank you Sir Branagh and Patrick Doyle.
I cry to!!!
lovely thought but knowing british soldiers they probqably said fuck this
Non nobis Domine, Domine; (Not to us, Lord, Lord)
Non nobis Domine; (Not to us, Lord)
Sed nomini, sed nomini; (but to the name, but to the name)
Tuo da gloriam! (of you give glory)
"nomini" -- the dative. Not "nomine". Domine ends in e as the vocative.
Dear Pricejb1, I cannot thank you enough for posting the English and the Latin so I can know both what the words are and what they mean. You have been a blessing to me and probably to numerous others who did not listen to our counselors in junior high school about the importance of taking Latin.
@@raywilliams6896You mean at the sed nomini part? I was sure that‘s what they were singing. You‘ll never believe this but 50 years ago, ouch, I was part of a trial to bring back Latin as a "living language" (didn‘t know it had died) but as a consequence we weren‘t taught the grammar that surely is the whole point of learning Latin? It would have been so useful subsequently with German and other languages. And as a chorister, singer, musician. I changed schools after 2 years so don‘t know if the grammar would ever have been formally taught. All I can remember after all these years are these little simple story books in Latin. I think the idea was we would just absorb it. Well I certainly didn‘t! I‘m very grateful to you for explaining. 😊
@@raywilliams6896 Thank you I have made the edit. Much appreciated.
GRACIAS, MAESTROS 💕💖🙏
I just learned that Henry V was Patrick Doyle's first film score. Unbelievable.
According to imdb he did Twelfth Night first as Pat Doyle, but it's hard to know when movies come out which came first. Either way it's gorgeous and from a young score.
And in the movie, the soldier who starts the singing is Patrick Doyle himself.
No matter how often I hear this piece of music, I'm always moved to tears. It always reminds me of what wonderful things people can create and, in doing so, inspire others.
great truth Deana, lovely perfomance
I'm in tears right now. And it is the millionth time.
Tutti i santi giorni
Yes, it’s very emotional.
Long live Christ the King! May we all praise and glorify the Holy Name of Our Lord and Redeemer for all eternity in the Kingdom of Heaven! Deo gratias
He doesnt long live since he is our eternal father of huge majesty
When I am layed to rest this will be played I get tears in my eyes listening to this .praise God and for the wonderful life he gave me. All praise to holy God!
¡Viva Cristo Rey!
¡Viva Cristo Rey!
¡Viva Cristo Rey!
If you haven't seen the movie, this is the best part!
this and the Crispian Day Speech!!!
The first time I heard _Non Nobis Domine_ by Patrick Doyle, I turned on the car radio. Minnesota Public Radio's "Friday Favorites" program was on, and someone requested this song from the movie _Henry V_ . When I heard the song, I wanted to see the movie.
Every Christian should recite the words of this hymn every day - morning and night.
How do you keep from tearing up while singing praises to Almighty God? Just can’t stop…
Non nobis Domine, tuo da gloriam - not to us oh Lord, but to you, the glory.
ME ENCANTA. I LOVE IT . GLORIA A TI SEÑOR.
to your glory, tu our glory Lord !!!!!!
Non nobis Domine sed nomini tuo da Gloriam - Not to us, oh Lord, but to thy Name be the Glory.
😊non nobis domine , ....
It's simply the most beautiful piece of music I've seen performed in years. Loved the film! This performance was spectacular.
With a beautiful piece of music like this, Agincourt will never be forgotten and rightly so. ❤️❤️❤️
One of the best, ost unheralded, film score of all time.
This is simply the best piece of choral music written in recent times. The orchestration and arrangement is superb. It does everything you want it to, culminating in the most joyous musical climax. The best performance I have heard and on a par with the film if not better. I wish I'd heard it live.
Thank you so much Steve Roberts!
+Steve Roberts Yes, Patrick Doyle's 'Non nobis' for Branagh's _Henry V_ is a great and beautiful piece of music. On first hearing it many years ago when the film debuted, I assumed it was a traditional hymn from long ago. Amazing that it's contemporary.
After a death in the family, the melody just came to me, from out of the blue. So I learned the latin words and sang it over and over, for my lost one and for all those who grieve.
God bless Patrick Doyle and all music makers. God bless us, every one!
@@GildaLee27 It is based on a short Latin hymn used as a prayer of thanksgiving and expression of humility. There is a simple chant of it but not this melodious, multi-harmony in-the-round version of it. Very reminiscent of Handel's The Messiah.
Father, right now, I suffer gravely, and largely by my own hand. I cry out to you, asking that this all be for your Glory and not mine...😭💔
And thank you, Distributist, for introducing me to this song through your videos.
Don't give up my friend. Jesus died for you He never gave up on you
❤
I listened to this over and over again after my brother, Christopher, died this past October in a motorcycle accident. Requiem in pace, frater Christopherus!
Memory Eternal!
Magnificent score, and that piece was the perfect accompaniment to a masterful tracking shot that helped show the full horror and pity of war. Great play, great film, great music.
I always thought I could have been there and how proud I would have been fighting alongside Henry the V
The Chants of the Templars are always beautiful to hear.
Anawin.
I'm English, and Agincourt and Henry the 5th brings me here. And this piece always strangles me with emotion. But my Grand-fathers were at Mons, Passchendaele, and other places in WW1; and also at the Desert Rat campaigns with Monty in WWII. My uncles were Paratroopers who applied for SAS positions and my father was in the royal Hussars during his National Service. One thing I learned from them all: War destroys and makes us less human. It's something designed by governments that will always employ the working classes to do their bidding on a whim, at the cost of the decimation of their hamlets, towns and cities, without sending their own flesh and blood into the fray. Those mentioned in this note are long past, but there will always be something in me that will take up the gauntlet, if pressured, to fight on the side of righteousness. For my own risked their blood for such causes, and life altering endeavors. But all that aside..there is something in this that stirs the cockles of my breeding. It is there. It is in me...
The film of Henry V, which this was written for, recognises the dehumanising impact of war. As the King is lauded by the soundtrack, we see him struggling with the impact of the death all around. The appropriateness of the glory of the music is questioned by the visual images.
Excellent sentiment I totally agree with you...
Noble sentiments, but difficult to actualize when your nation surrendered its weapons. Better start correcting that.
My senteiments are for my personal blood that had to risk their lives in wars and campaigns. Of their courage I am proud and owe them. I can see how committed you are with your own words...not even a picture where some one would put a picture...just a..."W" Correct that first and I might show you a little more respect. Sheer twaddle... :-)
United we stand Brother X
Absolutelly amazing! This is a master piece and this performance makes remember that of the film HENRY V - besides with some pronunciation difference; but the text (in lattin) and the way it was performed make our feelings higher and higher and reafirms that "life will be an error WITHOUT MUSIC" - Thanks to everybody!
I don’t know very much about conducting , but I’ve been around professionals in different lines of work to recognize a true professional when I see one. The conductor has that casual competence that only a master at the pinnacle of his profession can have.
He’s the real deal.
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne’er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition
Glory to Him
This piece has changed a lot of things forever. I welcome that.
Goosebumps at 4:18, that reverb ❤️ wish to hear that live 🤯
The conductor’s demonstrativeness makes these videos all the more moving.
LOVE LISTENING TO THIS ON MY COMPUTER.
Die schönste Fassung dieses Psalmverses !!! Vielen Dank den Musikern. !!
Da haben Sie recht!
♪♫NON NOBIS DOMINE, NON NOBIS, SED NOMINI TUO DA GLORIAM
This is a thanksgiving prayer! “Not to us be the glory but God alone”!
I find this so inspiring. Top of my playlist for a bad day
Super! Super! I like it, the old English song is very, very great! Welcome, Non Nobis Domine to our life!

Gracias Kenneth, gracias Patrick….
Patrick Doyle you are a great composer, Maestro
Navarro does such good work. I recommend the "Amistad" and "Superman" themes.
I can only imagine the pressure put on that guy at the end with the cymbals. There is absolutely no room for error on the timing.
That's why he's a professional
@@kapitankapital6580 Oh, I believe it 100%!

Salmol 115
Thanks from Italy.
Toda glória seja dada a Deus
Henry V. kenneth at his best.
Kind of a shock to have a baritone lead off; I'm so used to Patrick Doyle, who is a tenor. And congratulations on correcting his Latin.
Kenneth Branagh will love that and thank you
it would be nice if I could give this more than one like
Thank you so much!
YO TAMBIÈN ESTABA PLENAMENTE CONVENCIDA DE QUE ERA UNA PIEZA MUSICAL MEDIEVAL, ES MARAVILLOSA, Y QUÈ INCREÌBLE QUE SE CONTEMPORÀNEA ! Y ESTA VERSIÒN, MAGNÌFICA E INOLVIDABLE

Psalm 115:1
Humildad Señor, te pido...
Inno grandioso !
Magnífico 😍
Bravo!
O conhecimento salva.
This should be the anthem to christen the new year for all those of the faith. 2020 has been the year of loss, pain, challenge, and reckoning for us all, and yet, we should remember that all things work together for the Glory of God. That the past might be ashes for many of us, but that the burning of what we loved was all along a reminder to us to return to our First Love - Jesus. That only He is sufficient and only He can give us meaning. All else is futility.
1) Sola Gratia
2) Sola Fide
3) Solus Christus
4) Sola Scriptura
5) Soli Deo Gloria
04:29 the conductor says it all
Amazing! God bless!
Sublime!!!
Wonderful!!
0:29 Bald guy really nails it. Bravo!
A masterpiece of art
Good Morning, And that is good Latin. Brian~Koller
My french ancistors fought in the battle of angicourt i feel sad sometimes when i here this pice of music ..we french lost alot of good men in the battle of angicourt
Peter! I most definitely understand what you are saying but... those are the perils of war. Someone will lose and lots of good men will die (on both sides). Not that it makes any easier or better but please reflect: At Agincoourt "we" cheer for Henry but another 13 years and "we" shall cheer for La Pucelle :)
Phenomenal. Excellent in every way
This should be the national anthem of the Papal State/Vatican IMHO 😉
VIVA CRISTO REY
Wow Hohoho WOW!!!!!!!!
Brian Blessed approves this performance
Who wants to restore the Knights Templar to their rightful inheritance after hearing their chant to pledge their loyalty to God here??
I am there as were my ancestors who proudly displayed the red crusader’s cross on a white background in our crest.
Patrick Doyle's compositions are outstanding. Also excellent is 'The Dreame', used as in the movie Sense & Sensibility with Emma Thompson & Kate Winslet.
Amazing!👍
