    I've been exploring animism recently and like you said it just makes sense. I've always seen at least natural objects as having spirits/consciousness. Knowing this makes me feel so much more connected to life. I take better care of my plants knowing that they have a spirit but I also think if animism was more popular then we wouldn't have destroyed the earth. We would have taken much better care of her, so the argument for animism is quite strong for me.

    Going back to basics and looking into Animism again helped me better wrap my head around how to approach correspondences. Feeling the spirit of a thing, and understanding how it behaves in nature helps me relate to them energetically.

    As a child I was told this belief was "stupid". But, I always felt that all things have spirit. Maybe not the same as what we have, but spirit of their own kind. I have always talked to inanimate objects. Glad to hear that I am not alone.

    So inspiring video again, thank you :)
    I think anyone who ever gave name to a car or a washing machine (it was common in Hungary 30 years ago :D) or beg the computer to work is an animist. Children play and care their toys like they were alive. It's in our genes. We do it without realizing. Even my fully atheist and materialist boyfriend felt sorry for our car when it "died" in a crash, and he said it's good that she died like a hero (we had no injuries, the car kept us safe). We just connect to thing's spirits naturally.
    And when we realize it, that's so satisfying :) It can be the difference between "oh no, I need to clean the house again" and "oh, my home looks so sad, I want to care about it". And it gives the feeling that I am never alone, I can connect with "things" everywhere. It's just good, especially in these days, when we live online, mostly without regular personal connections.
    "Friends" are everywhere, we just need to open our eyes to see them :)

    I love the colours of your make up. Very warm and autumnal. Really suits you. Thanks for the info regarding animism too. I have been slowly exploring my spiritualism over the years to see if any religions or beliefs resonate. So far, animism is the closest to feeling comfortable. I am not sure what to do with this so will just keep exploring and see where I am taken 💚💜. Oh and at least I have a good reason for some of the 'odd' behaviours I have always had, like hugging a wall of a house and saying goodbye and thank you when I move!!😂

    2:23 It is felt deep within and discovered before having the words to describe it. That is why it appears in the various cultures in either words or art.
    8:24 Things fulfilling their designed intention are not wasted.
    3:23 Children feel the environments around them distinctly, but adults tend to take the unique signatures for granted, relying on a broad summarization of their own world definitions and a generalized understanding of all things.

    I will definitely have to read Edward Tylor's Primative Culture. This is something I'm so curious to deep dive with because its a concept I've felt aligned with since I was little and then when I learnt about pantheism at school and university it became more confusing. It makes so much sense that animism is ancient and primitive - back to when our cultures were matriarchal. This was a great video Ella 🙏 💜 Xxx

    @jimjim5350 Před 2 lety +2

    wow i had no idea this had a name, but it resonates a lot with me. i've always felt very connected to objects throughout my life to the point i would give them names and speak with them. especially with things that meant a lot to me like plants and my fave toys but also to stuff like food. i remember having a crisis about what to eat cause i felt so bad about cutting up the plants and fruits when cooking lmao. and whenever i would draw i would talk to the drawing while i created it and sort of get to know it. so yeah this is super interesting to me, and im glad i found your video to get a proper understanding of all of this :)

    Thank you for all the great information on this subject bc I never knew it had a name. But now I understand more why I can feel spirits or energy in the things I touch or have in my home.
    You mentioned vehicles at one point. I do believe my car has a spirit. I keep protection charms in my car which hang from my mirror and I do believe she protects me when I’m on the road.
    As for all other objects. I have always believed each thing has a spirit, unless it is engineered, then I don’t feel a spirit in objects like that.
    I can feel the spirit energy when I hold objects whether it’s fallen to the ground or not. Even objects in stores that we buy have a spirit.
    And you’re right about your home having a spirit or energy.

    I really relate with this topic... I have a plush frog toy from Build A Bear. Having placed a heart inside her with my own hands, I feel like I have given her life even though she is just an inanimate plastic/polyester item. I have always wondered if after I pass on from old age (maybe many years later as I am only in my early twenties) will spirit exist or enter my plush frog as I have poured so much love and time into talking to her and all. I am really worried that she will become an "Anabelle doll" but frog version and haunt my descendants. Maybe I should instruct my descendants to burn her with my body after I pass on so my frog's spirit would leave the world with me, just like how I brought her into this world.

    @smillstill Před 4 měsíci

    From what I've studied, the other side of animism, which could have developed before or after it, is the idea of people living on after they die. We see this in ceremonial burials back to 100,000 years ago. Hard to say which came first or if they just went together with each other. Then around 50,000 years ago, we had a sort of creative revolution, maybe from a quantum jump in evolution of our minds or a critical population of people where tribes began to interact more. What happened were the ideas of gods and shamanism (as well as fancier art and tools). Gods seemed to take the form of snakes and lions, as well as possibly bovines and horses. The idea of a female fertility/creation goddess in human form around that time is hotly debated, based on the huge number of female figures carved from stone and ivory (as to whether they are modelled on goddesses or human females).

    • @EllaHarrison
      @EllaHarrison  Před 2 lety +2

      Yes, though it would not necessarily have been called witchcraft thousands of years ago. When we look at for example the Lionman sculpture from Germany which is about 40 thousand years old, and anthropologists and historians believe it was used for ritual - you could certainly argue that the rituals performed were what we now would consider witchcraft. Witchcraft and animism are inherently tied together

    To me animism is an experience. It's not something I "believe" as much as it's just something I percieve. Like a connection that I've always had with nature. Feeling like the life in the trees come from the same life-force/soul as the life-force that exists inside me. Percieving personalities in things like rivers or lakes, I actually have quite a feisty gal of a river next to the bus I take to work :D It doesn't even have to be spiritual. It can just be extending your respect and reverence to everything that lives. Not positioning us humans as separate from nature, but as deeply connected to it, because we share the same soul. That's how I'd describe it :D
